I remember some friends and I rented it on release and when Jins hood got knocked down it was an "Oh shit" moment. It's cool to see tech evolve like that in front of you in such a big way.
People who play the game on a very casual level seem to like that it tried to change things up. Anyone who knows how to actually play tekken knows that the game is a broken mess because of a lot of those changes.
It was my first PS2 game, bought it with the console. Was comfy af. The top down beat them all minigame was shit. Great graphics doe, was impressive coming from the PS1. The soundtrack was top tier too.
You know, one thing I do like is that every character was treated seriously and there was none of the stupid "comedy" that, let's face it, isn't actually funny unless you're an unfunny c**t yourself.
Characters got a design change which, while not necessarily better or worse, showed that they're not just using Paul's Judogi or Biker suit and we're willing to just give something different a try.
Voice acting was good to have, even if 99% of it was bollocks but then it went back a step thematically with 5 with turning everyone who isn't a Mishima or Kazama into a bit of a joke. I will say the gameplay in 5 was better though.
My first PS2 game so a lot of nostalgia is involved. I loved some of the design changes and the music was really fricking good (although I missed the character-specific themes). The gameplay and wonky physics got a lot of flack but I respect the devs for at least trying to change things up. I still play it from time to time.
series peaked here when it comes to innovation and creativity
no anna no buy
I don't know moron what do YOU think
seeing Jin's hood come down after he get hit blew my mind as a kid, I'd never seen TECHNOLOGY like it at the time
it really was one hell of a jump in tech, everyone had all sorts of physics stuff going on to show it off
PS2 era had some crazy sequels going on tech wise
FFX
GTA3
MGS2
Tekken 4
It was truly an age of wonders
Last big gen jump really.

Now I wish they'd let Kuni keep her mask the whole match FRICK
music is amazing, but it isn't tekken 5 unfortunately.

It had SOVL.
It will always be better than Tekken 6.

Harada is a fricking clown and he brought only despair on Tekken post 3.
frick you kuma is sick
He isn't even good enough not to share a character slot with Panda AND get slapped around repeatedly by Paul.
Best Tekken OST and one of the best OSTs of the entire generation
will tekken force ever come back? i’d even be fine if they brought back 6’s version of it in 8 if
Its good and laid the foundation for Tekken 5 which imo is the best Tekken.
SOUL and innovative. Its flaws likes infinites and unbalance can only be percieved by top players.
What I like the most about the character designs is that they take a shit on iconography. These characters have changed and they show it.
I only play games made by the real Tekken creator.
