I like Tekken too but it's way too hard and autistic and I can't enjoy any game without being a sweaty tryhard, so I'd just get frustrated at low ranks vs "noobs" with 500 hours in every single Tekken title.

Tekken 8 is a predictable follow-up to a series that's never aimed particularly high, it may please casual gamers for a day or two but the stagnant ongoing series is definitely in the second tier of fighters way below Capcom or NRS games, and it's seriously getting old and tired. The lack of depth and subtlety and the emphasis on the offensive, rather than the defensive, puts this squarely two notches below the best in the genre, the shallow gameplay leaves much to be desired from a serious fighting game player. Like the prequels, Tekken 8 is geared towards casual gamers and anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and King of Fighters games have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" heat moves are just laughably broken. Instead of supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T8 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their Heat move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, Heat system also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!
If you want something a little more "button-masher-friendly," tekken might be your cup of tea.... Key word, might.

No one sane buys MK on PC. NRS has a history of shitty PC ports with delayed patches, performance problems, straight up balance differences due to incompetence and more. This release in particular needs a beefy PC to run, can't be legally sold on Russia, also had some problems with servers in some regions like Africa and Southeast Asia if I'm not mistaken, which means that the 3rd world people who play on PC completely ignored this release. Still, they promised crossplay coming this year, let's see if that changes anything.

I'm a shit Tekken 7 player and I can tell you that Rage Arts is the primary reason why people disconnect in rage at the lower ranks. I don't blame them. Tekken has never had this bullshit armored comeback ultras before. Nobody who enjoys Tekken will say "Oh God can't wait to spam the one button instant death move".

Tekken is so weird to me. A fighting game with no difference between normal and special moves, where characters just do strings, where you basically never jump, where you block standing by default, where you don't have any meter to manage. My brain can't process it. I'm buying UNI2 instead.

There is really no character expression in Tekken, everyone plays the same and most characters share the same basic moves, at least MK has big flashy specials to differentiate the characters.

Eh, it kinda does. It's like a second or two long, but it does do a big slowdown move that stops the action for a sec. It's one of the things I personally don't like in a lot of modern fighting games. I prefer the more classic, arcadey style fighters like older Tekken or Soulcalibur with no meters, no slowdown moves, etc. The only thing that made a match slow down were throws, generally.
I get that it's good for spectacle, I just prefer simpler presentation a lot of the time.
It's too fricking expensive. I bought Tekken 7 for $30. Cheapest I can find Tekken 8 is $50. Too much for a game that will be outdated in a year bloated with DLC.
I dunno why nobody ever really mentions this but even JDCR said you can "feel" when to block high or low. I get into the state pretty frequently and I can usually get into a good grove on when an opponent is trying to go for a high, medium or low. Even the split second on the startup frames you can tell if the move is going to hit which one. You just really gotta watch out for the sneaky moves like Snakeedges and other stuff which are either too quick to react to or have weird ass properties.
Besides the only issue is Tekken does the opposite of most fighting games. (You should by default block medium/high and react to lows) while most fighters it's Default block low, react to high.
main difference is that some lows on tekken can lead to a huge combo, while overheads are slow as shit and hardly lead to something really big unless on those anime games where the guy comes flying at you as a overhead.
KBD is as simple as an IAD, but upside down. it's not hard. you can do it.
the hard part of actually implementing it well and not tightening up in the heat of a match, causing you to loose the rhythm. plus you have to make it all the way to fricking gold ranks before these online crackheads don't immediacy just run forward at you and mash a button at you after only 2 backdashes.

and now they can DP almost as easily as dashing.
(to be even more extremely pedantic, the numpad is certainly an accurate shorthand, but doesn't match up exactly with what is happening. obviously you don't actually 'press 5' on any type of key/button input. so it would be like "5, 6, 5, 2, 2+3+attack", and now it's not a "Z" - its the Tekken notation)

the Z notation is perfectly fine, cause anyone who's not moronic can see that the only way to go from 6 to 2 without passing through 3 is to let go of the stick/dpad
what's more amazing about your moronicness is that your idea of "6, 5, 2, 3" is factually wrong, cause with any input checker you can see that 5, 2, 3 SKIPPING the neutral position also works, so the Z is 100% accurate
KBD is IAD but upside down, reversed, needs to be chained, far more susceptible to varied timing and the first one has an extra input.
You can't do an IAD "too fast". A KDB done too fast will kill your movement.

I just wish she had a cooler design. Just "girl in windbreaker" for the big, new newcomer who's going to shake things up was a weird choice. She's super cute and I think her using a lot of Heihachi's style is cool but I just can't find her that interesting visually.

Thanks anon. Frick me, there's a lot of soul just in that character select screen. A character having a bikini as a default alt in 2024 is wild to me, plus almost everyone having a classic look as an option. Mortal Kombat had me pretty jaded, with the classic looks and even story looks for most characters behind a grind, paywall or some combination of both.

The game does include a simplified moveset you can activate at the push of a button. As long as your intent is just to play for fun and not be competitive, it should be playable for you.

Yeah, bought a TV last year pretty cheap. It wasn't a big purchase but it did advertise HDR so I was kinda excited. Got it and HDR looked shit; I learned you need a really high brightness for HDR to look good, and even then it's still limited without OLED for a full brightness range.
It looks incredible on OLED, even if it doesn't go as bright as some hi-end LCDs. Perfect blacks really do give you that extra bit of contrast that make all the highlights stand out.
Cheap LCDs, on the other hand, all look like shit. My previous TV was an IPS panel from 2016. Technically supported HDR, but without any local dimming it just blew out the whole picture at max brightness and ended up not looking very good. I never used HDR on it after the initial tests.
PC monitors are the worst offenders in this regard. Nowadays they are all advertised as HDR displays with some HDR 400 certificate or something, but it's the same case as with my TV, max brightness and no local dimming = shitty contrast, doesn't even deserve to be called HDR. But that's what most people buy and base their opinion on.
Youtube allows uploading videos with HDR. Recoding something with HDR, then uploading it without HDR makes it look like garbage.
Yeah, but that's on the person who recorded the footage/uploaded the video. When YT introduced HDR may people used it, but it has somehow dropped off with time, now barely any HDR videos get uploaded, especially with gameplay.
Maybe it introduces some difficulty in recording/editing the video, I don't know. But tonemapping HDR to SDR like this definitely isn't the way to go.
I'm more bothered by the screen space reflections on the floor. I know ray tracing is too demanding for something like a fighting game right now but I'm looking forward to when hardware makes it standard and we don't have to deal with SSR anymore. It almost never looks good

Wondering the same. I haven't played since TTT. That said, T8 includes a series recap and seems to be designed around easing new players in with its avatar-guided Arcade mode. Check out the demo, it made me feel like possibly picking up the game.
My main worry is that literally every character has like pages of commands. I have no idea how one learns a main, much less the whole roster.

Tekken 8 is a predictable follow-up to a series that's never aimed particularly high, it may please casual gamers for a day or two but the stagnant ongoing series is definitely in the second tier of fighters way below Capcom or NRS games, and it's seriously getting old and tired. The lack of depth and subtlety and the emphasis on the offensive, rather than the defensive, puts this squarely two notches below the best in the genre, the shallow gameplay leaves much to be desired from a serious fighting game player. Like the prequels, Tekken 8 is geared towards casual gamers and anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and King of Fighters games have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" heat moves are just laughably broken. Instead of supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T8 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their Heat move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, Heat system also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!

No one sane buys MK on PC. NRS has a history of shitty PC ports with delayed patches, performance problems, straight up balance differences due to incompetence and more. This release in particular needs a beefy PC to run, can't be legally sold on Russia, also had some problems with servers in some regions like Africa and Southeast Asia if I'm not mistaken, which means that the 3rd world people who play on PC completely ignored this release. Still, they promised crossplay coming this year, let's see if that changes anything.

Eh, it kinda does. It's like a second or two long, but it does do a big slowdown move that stops the action for a sec. It's one of the things I personally don't like in a lot of modern fighting games. I prefer the more classic, arcadey style fighters like older Tekken or Soulcalibur with no meters, no slowdown moves, etc. The only thing that made a match slow down were throws, generally.
I get that it's good for spectacle, I just prefer simpler presentation a lot of the time.

I dunno why nobody ever really mentions this but even JDCR said you can "feel" when to block high or low. I get into the state pretty frequently and I can usually get into a good grove on when an opponent is trying to go for a high, medium or low. Even the split second on the startup frames you can tell if the move is going to hit which one. You just really gotta watch out for the sneaky moves like Snakeedges and other stuff which are either too quick to react to or have weird ass properties.
Besides the only issue is Tekken does the opposite of most fighting games. (You should by default block medium/high and react to lows) while most fighters it's Default block low, react to high.
main difference is that some lows on tekken can lead to a huge combo, while overheads are slow as shit and hardly lead to something really big unless on those anime games where the guy comes flying at you as a overhead.

KBD is as simple as an IAD, but upside down. it's not hard. you can do it.

(to be even more extremely pedantic, the numpad is certainly an accurate shorthand, but doesn't match up exactly with what is happening. obviously you don't actually 'press 5' on any type of key/button input. so it would be like "5, 6, 5, 2, 2+3+attack", and now it's not a "Z" - its the Tekken notation)
The people you taught being moronic isn't the same as the input symbol being bad. That's a fine way to start off learning the motion, but if you want to do things fast, you'll eventually learn to do it without extraneous neutral inputs.

KBD is IAD but upside down, reversed, needs to be chained, far more susceptible to varied timing and the first one has an extra input.
You can't do an IAD "too fast". A KDB done too fast will kill your movement.

A character having a bikini as a default alt in 2024 is wild to me, plus almost everyone having a classic look as an option. Yeah, bought a TV last year pretty cheap. It wasn't a big purchase but it did advertise HDR so I was kinda excited. Got it and HDR looked shit; I learned you need a really high brightness for HDR to look good, and even then it's still limited without OLED for a full brightness range.
It looks incredible on OLED, even if it doesn't go as bright as some hi-end LCDs. Perfect blacks really do give you that extra bit of contrast that make all the highlights stand out.
Cheap LCDs, on the other hand, all look like shit. My previous TV was an IPS panel from 2016. Technically supported HDR, but without any local dimming it just blew out the whole picture at max brightness and ended up not looking very good. I never used HDR on it after the initial tests.
PC monitors are the worst offenders in this regard. Nowadays they are all advertised as HDR displays with some HDR 400 certificate or something, but it's the same case as with my TV, max brightness and no local dimming = shitty contrast, doesn't even deserve to be called HDR. But that's what most people buy and base their opinion on.
Yeah, but that's on the person who recorded the footage/uploaded the video. When YT introduced HDR may people used it, but it has somehow dropped off with time, now barely any HDR videos get uploaded, especially with gameplay.
Maybe it introduces some difficulty in recording/editing the video, I don't know. But tonemapping HDR to SDR like this definitely isn't the way to go.
Youtube allows uploading videos with HDR. Recoding something with HDR, then uploading it without HDR makes it look like garbage.
