It's still just fricking Tekken. KBD is still in the game, it's still got the same massive movelists on every character that require you to lab them all if you don't want to get memed on by unsafe strings you don't understand, and the core gameplay of fishing for CH/launchers into juggles which degenerates down into playing as safely and minimally as possible at the top levels, is still the same. Tekken is clearly never going to be Street Fighter, which actually changes from iteration to iteration, it will fundamentally always be the same game it has been since it started. Whether you think that's a good or bad thing depends on how much you like that core.

Looking at this footage and more recent trailers (like the Feng Wei trailer), I'm glad they both brightened up the game and toned down the particle effects. The visual clarity aspect is way better now than it was in the initial trailers.

I thought SF could had been killed this gen given how bad SF V was and how good Tekken 7 turned out.
But Capcom gambled and worked out with a very good game.
Namco in the other hand played it safe and we got a Tekken 7.5, which is fine but now looks stale compared to the improvements SF VI got (training mode + combo trials + replays are already a massive improvement over what Tekken gives you).
Feels like table turned around and it will be SF > Tekken this gen.
SF gets more attention in general, but Tekken manages to be bigger quietly in the back in all but tournament turn out. Despite largely being seen to have poor online and bad patches T7 somehow has 4k-5k players daily. I think it'll match or out do SF6 in sales and players, yet SF6 will remain the game which gets the most attention.

The stuff they showed off today was pretty much as good. No combo trials but replay take over is huge and especially useful in a game like Tekken. Its not doing anything new or exciting, but again T7's launch was honestly terrible yet it never hurt the game.

Tekken 7 wasn't good because SF5 was shit, it was just ok, it's legit unplayable online for a whole month after it launched but everyone memory holed that given how SF5 was for 2 years
Have you watched TGS? They announced a bunch of new features for the training mode and replays, and they have combo trials too, although they are pretty simplistic.
This is something I want as standard, it's so useful in +R. I'm not even big into labbing, but I spent way more time doing it there where I could just experiment in the replay rather than having to recreate the situation in training mode.
Game looks like the exact same as Tekken 7 but with stupid 2d mechanics and and even shittier movement, and the netcode is confirmed garbage, killed all my hype, I want real 3d fighting games back.
But VF is being ignored by Sega because they release the same exact game every year instead, a game where you do nothing but talk for 2 hours with perverts for each quest, SC is most likely dead for good, DoA is being rebooted but who the frick cares about DoA anyway.

Tekken 8 will have combo trials, replays, and new training room features.
SF gets more attention in general, but Tekken manages to be bigger quietly in the back in all but tournament turn out. Despite largely being seen to have poor online and bad patches T7 somehow has 4k-5k players daily. I think it'll match or out do SF6 in sales and players, yet SF6 will remain the game which gets the most attention.

The stuff they showed off today was pretty much as good. No combo trials but replay take over is huge and especially useful in a game like Tekken. Its not doing anything new or exciting, but again T7's launch was honestly terrible yet it never hurt the game.

Tekken 7 wasn't good because SF5 was shit, it was just ok, it's legit unplayable online for a whole month after it launched but everyone memory holed that given how SF5 was for 2 years
Have you watched TGS? They announced a bunch of new features for the training mode and replays, and they have combo trials too, although they are pretty simplistic.
T8 Training mode looks way better than SF6 with the AI learning and the replay shit...
they said you could take control of your character at any time during a replay, that alone makes it 10/10 for me

This is something I want as standard, it's so useful in +R. I'm not even big into labbing, but I spent way more time doing it there where I could just experiment in the replay rather than having to recreate the situation in training mode.

Tekken always looked wonky as frick to me. These juggle combos just looks silly and 3D-space fighting games are just inferior to 2D ones. Plus, who wants to memorize literal thousands of moves to be kinda good with one character? The learning curve seems way too steep even by Fighting game standards.
