Went through all of Gen 2 without seeing one, got a random shiny Numel in Gen 3 and that was the first time I was even aware it was a thing besides the red Gyarados
Found a diglett on my leaf green version with a blue nose, thought it was a glitch but I caught him anyway until I found out what a shiny was. I loved that little homie and evolved him into a dugtrio until I traded him to pokemon colosseum. He turned shit green like picrel and I vomited and he was dead to me
>in safai zone >pink wooper appears >aaaaaaaaaaaaaa >catch it_______
The Safari Zone was a mistake and people only liked it because it had rare Pokemon that you couldn't catch anywhere else
A shiny caterpie in the bug catching contest. But I wasn't able to catch it, and spent like an hour afterwards trying to find it again because I was a dumb kid.
My first shiny was, apparently, an abra. I has no idea at the time because regular abra and shiny abra are nearly identical. I think it took a few days of playing before I leveled it to kadabra or alakhazam before I realized that the color was off
never caught one. i played all pokemon on an emulator and on fast mode and just held a to level up my nidaman to nidoking and steamroll the game
garbage game
I think early games the shiny color was related to code so shiny colors weren't really planned. It's only Gen 6 onwards where shinies are independantly designed.
I played gens 1-4 the years they were released and never knew shinies were a thing. I never saw one, or at least noticed one, and never heard school yard rumours about them. I didn't know they were an thing until I watched a pokemon speedrun circa 2018 and it was brought up.
Red Gyarados was just a cool unigue thing in G/S
I didn't know shinys existed until the later gens upped the encounter rate. >b-b-but the gyrados in gen 2
Just assumed the color difference was a result of Team Rocket fricking with them via radio waves
My first pokemon game was Yellow after that I never played toched pokemon game, recently with Violet/Scarlet I played every Gen, Blue, Crystal, Ruby, FireRed, Diamond, B&W1 and 2, X & Y, Omega Ruby, Sun and Moon, Sword and Violet.
I have YET to see a Shiny. That's right I haven't seen not even a single one.
Shiny golbat in leaf green. I didn’t really realize what i caught until i looked it up later. He turned into a pink crowbat and i made sure to lvl him to 100. The only one i ever caught.

I miss my permanent shiny Mega Aerodactyl with brave bird.
A shiny Sealeo showed up while I was going through that post game area in Platinum. I have also found a shiny Bidoof while EV training, a shiny Murkrow while hatching for a competitive Honchkrow (wrong nature), and a shiny Pawniard while leveling my Pokemon in Black. Gave them all away to a friend.
My first shiny was a Graveler in Pokémon Gold that I found while showing the game to friends at school. Silver was my cousin's first Pokémon game and he told me the first Pidgey he saw was shiny, but he killed because it was literal at the start of the game. I chose to believe him.
Shiny Tentacool in Pokemon Red. I was maybe 8 years old and had no clue what I was looking at. Good memory. Haven't played a Pokemon game since Ruby and never saw any more. Seems like shiny pokemon are way more common now. The internet has ruined any sense of mystery in games for kids. They can't even conceptualize the experience.
>XY >Wandering aorund the friend safari checking what pokemon the people I added had >Shiny nosepass takes my virginity
I don't like nosepass so he went to rot in the box
I wouldn't like to but a shiny is a shiny. XY in general had increased rates compared to the previous games
My second one was replaying XY after this and getting a random shiny whismur earlier in the game, I enjoyed using him at least
The first Gligar I ever encountered in Pokemon Silver (not the soul silver, the original) had a bunch of sparkles coming from it when the encounter began. I thought my game was glitched so I turned it off and back on again.

First 2 shinies are only a memory now.
I played FireRed and Sapphire for at least 200 hours combined and I can't remember seeing a shiny even once. But I didn't know what Shinies were back so I might've just missed that it happened
No, it's normal to not see one in that amount of time. I have untold hours in the pre-gen 6 games and did not see a single fricking shiny in them until last month.
After gen 6 they doubled the rates and generally included more ways to get shinies so they're a lot less rare
>route 1 in leaf green >first pokemon i encounter of the game is a shiny pidgey >was before you get pokeballs
The only other shiny ive ever found was red gyrados which is guaranteed
I thought shinies were cool when the shiny rates were extremely low, now that you can simply hunt any shiny you want and pretty much guarantee you get it within 30 minutes at most, they just don't really feel all that special anymore.
I don't understand this sentiment, especially in Crystal where the shinies were determined by something like the state values which you could just manipulate and trade over from red and blue. I will agree that there's a difference between finding random ones to hunting but hunting can be so tedious depending on the Pokemon that even with the "better rates", it's still a massive chore.
Using a super rod in Olivine city to train my raichu like a dumb kid in pokemon gold. It was a kingler and i caught it because it had the same sparkles the red gyarados had so i knew it was the same special pokemon.
Trapinch in Ruby. Thought it was a glitch and caught it despite not really wanting duplicates because "glitches are cool". Didn't find out until years later that shinies were an actual thing.
I played all mainline Pokémon games casually since RBY on Game Boy, never encountered a single shiny. In SwSh I was determined to get one and spent hours hatching eggs until I got a shiny charmander. It was a good day.
Then a week later I emulated FireRed and found a shiny kakuna in Viridian Forest.

Shiny mareep in black and white 2, the ranch where you get riolu early in the game, i was looking for a mareep for my team and got a shiny one instead but didn't want to keep it because it was female and I thought male Pokemons where strongers, so into the box she go
Shiny roselia in Sapphire, didnt know what it was and I was hot on Latias's heels so I ran from it

lul spent way too much of my time hatching eggs for a shiny female ralts in X/Y because of the Mega, only to lose the cart, which I think got stolen anyway. Got talked into buying S/V because of a friend, paused the main campaign just to shiny hunt for another female ralts again. Ended up running into a shiny female Gardevoir and a male Ralts after like an hour and thirty minutes.

It was a shiny Hoppip in Crystal.
I distinctly remember going "huh, that's weird" while mashing A with my LV100 Feraligatr.
I also panicked and released my Togepi when it got Pokerus. Maybe I was dropped down a flight of stairs as a baby or something.
I cheated the item to Darkrai event in platinum I think but it did end up being a shiny one without any kind of manipulation.
Does that still count as a fake shiny pokemon?
I accidentally caught a shiny Pikachu while farming boxes of them trying to get a Volt Orb back in Emerald. I was doing it mostly on the side while watching TV since Pikachu had a low encounter rate and I was trying to catch as many of them as I could to get the orb. That's why I didn't notice until years later when I was going through my box trying to decide what to transfer over to Perl.
It felt a bit underwhelming.
my was pidgey in crystal, I was like "damn he's sparkling! if I kill him I'll get many exp!
Before we had the shiny Ponyta spergout, we had Shiny Pidgey Man.
I had a shiny pidgey show up in Crystal before the player could even get any pokeballs.
I was mad asf.
gloom in hearthgold near the entrance of the safari zone
to this day is still the only shiny i've ever caught, it really is hard to find shinies if you're not looking for them
Went through all of Gen 2 without seeing one, got a random shiny Numel in Gen 3 and that was the first time I was even aware it was a thing besides the red Gyarados
Rattata on Sprout tower. Had no pokeballs.
Shiny Cocoon ass whatever it was called. Levelled him up to beedrill but he was so abhorrently weak that i gave up
never saw a single one other that red Gyarados, played all the way until plat
I've been playing since Gen I and my first unscripted shiny was in X, a random Sneasal, I traded it for a shiny Greninja

I loved that little homie and evolved him into a dugtrio until I traded him to pokemon colosseum. He turned shit green like picrel and I vomited and he was dead to me

That is hilarious

Did anyone like the safari zone? I hated that place
I never got a random shiny outside of the super rate boosted shiny hunting methods
I did get Pokerus in Ruby tho so that was cool
Spearow after exiting mt moon, leveled him to 100 and he was my forever bro.
In Emerald I found shiny Wobbufet in the safari zone. It ran away.
Pokemon ruby! Found a shiny Makuhita in victory road!
It was a mareep. I stored it in the PC because it was pink and never took it out. It's the only shiny I've ever found
Shiny Pokemon fricking suck because most of the shiny colorings are worse than the regular coloring.
>it's a green shiny episode
>it's a literally the same color as the original episode
I'm not sure which is worse?
A shiny caterpie in the bug catching contest. But I wasn't able to catch it, and spent like an hour afterwards trying to find it again because I was a dumb kid.

Pokemon Silver. A shiny Nidorino I found randomly while looking for Chansey. I ended up adding him to my team because he looked cool.

Why is Nidoking a pallete swap but Nidoqueen gets some ugly green and pink mess?
I think early games the shiny color was related to code so shiny colors weren't really planned. It's only Gen 6 onwards where shinies are independantly designed.

First shiny Pokemon was a female Nidoran. Didn't run into another one randomly until Violet where I ran into 3 shinies.

I...
I've never gotten a shiny...
the ones on Pokémon GO don't count btw
I have a combined 1000+ hours in gens 2-3-4-5 and never found one lol. But I did get pokerus one time.
It's funny I've gotten pokerus a few times but only one shiny ever seen. I think the odds for pokerus are way lower, too
It helps to get the shiny charm. But 1000 hours isn't all that much across so many games.
>odds are not 1/8192
Not a real shiny
Yeah brother. You're not a real gamer if you never hatched a shiny.
>hatch shiny gastly because Mega Gengar is white

I'm still mad
To me what made me stop and just start injecting was the fact that tiers are always changing.
I miss my permanent shiny Mega Aerodactyl with brave bird.
My first shiny was the legendary beasts event in hgss. My last one was a Geodude in Pokemon Prism
Actually i found a ledyba right at the beginning of crystal clear
In BDSP I played as black Dawn and it felt like I was a shiny
Hatched an Azurill in Fire Red.
Shiny yanma in the platinum safari zone. It ran away of course

I've absolutely had a friend who found a Shiny ratatta at the very start but couldnt catch them because that was before he got pokeballs
Those aren't even the worst offenders
I played every Pokemon game up to SuMo and I have encountered one singular shiny Pokemon across that entire span. A shiny Solrock.
I knocked it out accidentally.
Nice palworld ripoff
Shinies were a schoolyard myth. Never saw one until I was an adult
Red/Blue didn't have shinies bro
LeafGreen and FireRed did so I assume he means that. Esp since he mentions ruby too
I think he's just full of shit since he's a frogposter but you do you.
There are no shinies in Red or Blue.
>XY
>Wandering aorund the friend safari checking what pokemon the people I added had

I don't like nosepass so he went to rot in the box
I wouldn't count friend safaris as they had an increased shiny rate.
I wouldn't like to but a shiny is a shiny. XY in general had increased rates compared to the previous games
My second one was replaying XY after this and getting a random shiny whismur earlier in the game, I enjoyed using him at least
Shiny Metapod in pokémon silver when I was a kid, moron little me thought it was a problem with the game and turned the game boy off.

i never encountered a shiny pokemon in a vanilla pokemon game aside from red gyarados
Vulpix in Silver. I was fearful of it using Roar so I threw a first turn Great Ball and caught it. I still have it in my Stadium 2 box.

Magcargo on Gold, raised the bastard with all my heart and care, then Pokemon Ruby came and the rest is story.
Frick gen 3.
What happened in Ruby?
You can't transfer gen 1/2 pokemon to gen 3
gen 3 isn't backwards compatible with the gb(c) games
Ah that sucks ass
I thought shinies were cool when the shiny rates were extremely low, now that you can simply hunt any shiny you want and pretty much guarantee you get it within 30 minutes at most, they just don't really feel all that special anymore.
Its true. I just caught an authentic shiny Sinistea about 30 minutes ago from an outbreak,
I don't understand this sentiment, especially in Crystal where the shinies were determined by something like the state values which you could just manipulate and trade over from red and blue. I will agree that there's a difference between finding random ones to hunting but hunting can be so tedious depending on the Pokemon that even with the "better rates", it's still a massive chore.
Going by that logic they never were special because you could always just use gameshark.
Using a super rod in Olivine city to train my raichu like a dumb kid in pokemon gold. It was a kingler and i caught it because it had the same sparkles the red gyarados had so i knew it was the same special pokemon.

>uhh its not actually rare because you can just cheat
lol
Shinies stop being rare the moment your mindset goes from grass = bad to grass = good.
It really isn't all that complicated.
Encountering a pokemon in the grass and running away takes 12-15 seconds, grinding the "average" 8200 encounters takes 30+ hours dude you are delusional. You sound like you cheated for shinies and are coping
Was trying to catch a Chansey in pokemon Gold around the route 13 area, farmed for over an hour and had to fly home to change my DST settings to get an extra hour, when I finally did find one it was a shiny, didn't understand what the animation meant.
