Terraria's biggest problem was turning the game into 2hu without adding actual 2hus (at least modders fixed that).
Starbound's biggest problem is its barely functional engine that can't be fixed with mods.
Combat fricking sucks in Starbound. Doesn't help that Tiy is a moron that remade a bunch of systems, added shit only to take it away and then shipped an extremely mediocre and boring version of the game as the final release.

I heard every time you pick up an item it checks if it unlocks anything new for you to craft regardless of if you have already picked that item up before.

Why the FRICK don't you build your own spaceships in this game. I don't mean decorate the interior, I mean why don't you build every single component like the walls, engines, life support systems, windows, etc.
The idea of the spaceship sucks so much, ruins the whole point of building bases on the planets, but if you have to include it, it better be incredible. And it's fricking not.
There are mods for starbound that let you do that. Modding it to hell is all the games good for really.

What sucks is the Factorio bits are still fun and dthe primordial (dinosaur) planets are cool. The railcarts and ocean planets from the base game are great. There are bits and pieces of FU/Starbound that are very appealing, especially in regards to base building. The collective package however, is shit. I always end up going back to Terraria.

Terraria has a main quest, it just isn't a well defined main quest. You aren't being constantly pushed by npcs to do it. You'll get hints on how to "protect" everyone by the guide and other NPCs when you talk to them.
Starbounds Main quest is just shit because the entire game is shit.

I'm being genuine, I only recently got into Terraria and aware of Starbound
I vaguely remember it. The devs tweeted a picture of a puppy they got and their bed was situated over or near a cluster of wires. Later that puppy would die from overheating or something.
The thing is that those wires were clearly showing marks of bites and people started to worry about it.
Later then the devs stopped tweeting about the puppy and people got worried. To make it worse the devs posted pic of another completely different puppy and the suspicious skyrocket.
Devs were also banning all posts and topics about the whereabouts of the puppy, trying their hardest to censor it all.
