The only real problem with Skyrim's level ups were the perk trees were pretty boring and full of "do X% more damage" perks. Install something like Ordinator which doesn't change the system itself just the effects of the perks and it's a 10/10 better than needing to do Efficient Leveling else you hit like a wet noodle and mudcrabs murder you in five hits

Skyrim never really dropped in the low numbers. The mod scene turned Skyrim into a sorta "evergreen" playing field.

You're all overthinking this. Starfield focused more on two things, radiant quests and ships. We're getting Daggerfall 2 at least when it comes to the location. You won't be able to freely travel the sea but specific zones and ports. High Rock is relatively small and the next obvious spot for Bethesda's tendency to avoid making anything too exotic. It will function like a normal TES map. They can include a big ocean zone that will function like travelling to different systems in Starfield but a little differently, then the northern coast and parts of inland Hammerfell for a more exotic location. Again think back to Starfield and all the work they did with the planet procgen. You'll do "expeditions" into the wilder portions of Hammerfell which will function lie visiting a planet in Starfield. There will be a setpiece in the area like a city or dungeon then surrounding bullshit and miscellaneous locations.

I agree Hammerfell lasted for as long as they did with help from the empire and even then only to a stalemate and with half their country occupied and sacked, but that still doesn’t change the fact that they were basically kicked out and didn’t rebel like the Nords did

People assumed Hammerfell for ages before that. It makes the most sense being the remaining province still actively at odds against the Thalmor, and In My Time of Need feels like foreshadowing of things to come just like the Oblivion Crisis was mentioned in one of Morrowind's DLCs

Yeah people don't like to be told that Skyrim's systems were unironically better than Oblivion's. The only real problem with Skyrim's level ups were the perk trees were pretty boring and full of "do X% more damage" perks. Install something like Ordinator which doesn't change the system itself just the effects of the perks and it's a 10/10 better than needing to do Efficient Leveling else you hit like a wet noodle and mudcrabs murder you in five hits

Skyrim never really dropped in the low numbers. The mod scene turned Skyrim into a sorta "evergreen" playing field.
Because of that, people just keep coming back. Starfield could have been the same but the base game is so poorly designed and vanilla is so unbelievably boring it likely won't happen.
They might turn it around with DLC but I doubt it.
TES 6, who knows at this point? Will they again make the WISE decision of not using a central design document or will they actually use their lore bible this time around for coherent worldbuilding? Not having a design document is what made Fo4 fail , what made 76 fail and what made Starfield fail.

I was thinking of just scrapping the perk trees and just given the player 3 stats: "fighting", "magic" and "other" that just increase over time so the player isn't overwhelmed. I also wouldn't represent them by numbers, just as a loading bar to streamline the UX.

You're all overthinking this. Starfield focused more on two things, radiant quests and ships. We're getting Daggerfall 2 at least when it comes to the location. You won't be able to freely travel the sea but specific zones and ports. High Rock is relatively small and the next obvious spot for Bethesda's tendency to avoid making anything too exotic. It will function like a normal TES map. They can include a big ocean zone that will function like travelling to different systems in Starfield but a little differently, then the northern coast and parts of inland Hammerfell for a more exotic location. Again think back to Starfield and all the work they did with the planet procgen. You'll do "expeditions" into the wilder portions of Hammerfell which will function lie visiting a planet in Starfield. There will be a setpiece in the area like a city or dungeon then surrounding bullshit and miscellaneous locations.

Between Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim and their respective modding scenes, there's enough content to fill 100 different games.
