TES: VI Leak - Attributes will be coming back guaranteed

I am not going to leak a lot, but I will say this. It's set in stone that Attributes like Strength, Intelligence, Constitution, etc will make a comeback in the newest iteration of The Elder Scrolls. We have decided to combine the best aspects of Skyrim and the Pre-Skyrim System.

The solution we came up with is actually pretty simple. All of the traditional attributes are back, except for Luck. Also all Skills are associated with a certain Attribute. If you level a skill a certain number of times your attributes will increase immediately. Cast Fireball Spell -> Increase Destruction -> Increase Willpower.
We think this is much more initiative and fits better with the "use it to get better at it" approach to skills TES has. In addition to this, you can still level up of course and increase an attribute for free, no matter what skills you used, and assign perk points.

We haven't decided on the exact values yet. We are experimenting increasing the Maximum Attributes to 200 for example and how much skill points you need to raise an attribute.

It really doesn't matter if attributes come back if they are pretty much useless, which they have been in every post-Morrowind game.

Hey guys, Bethesda insider here. The next Elders Scrolls game will be called only The Elder Scrolls. Bethesda is planning to take all games off the market and impossible to buy. The only people who will be able to play these games are the ones who previously purchased them. If you haven't please make sure to buy Skyrim on Steam, Epic, GOG, Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo otherwise you will never get a chance to play it again. Don't forget to also buy Skyrim VR.

Theodora here, I actually do work at Bethesda in HR and I can assure you this is erroneous info.

The gentlemen in the programming departments have informed me that they will be streamlining all attributes into one contiguous value that covers every skill you might wish to perform across the course of your character's career. This allows them to save CPU cycles, database and UI real estate across multiple platforms including mobile and tablet devices.

The new attribute will be called Excel and can be applied to any skill you wish to, wait for it: "excel at". It will be displayed in easy to define color coded phrases instead of confusing and intimidating numbers to ensure our games are capable of reaching a more diverse audience across all ages and gender spectrums.

For example when you start out you will be Neutral in attribute but as you adventure and level up you will Excel, then DoubleExcel, then DoubleplusExcel, Triple Excel, and so on and so forth. The lead game dev guy (forget his name) feels that being able to describe your character in real world terms for example "She Triple Excelled at lustily demolishing his Deep Fried Hist Syrup Sweet Roll" will add immeasurable value to your role playing experience. Hope to see you soon in the incredible world of The Elder Scrolls VI™ adventurers!

having skill level ups increase attributes would finally give a reason for skyrim's stupid prestige system. Resetting your one handed down to zero just to grind a few perks levels feels stupid, doing it to gain +25 in strength would feel more meaningfull.

Gay. I preferred the direction skyrim took towards removing stats. I want my play to be based on my skill and knowledge not some arbitrary grind stat so filthy casuals can feel good about themselves.

It was for the benefit of filty casuals (viz. console kiddies) that stats were removed in the first place, dumbass.

        Vs
        >i have studied realistic sword fighting techniques and learnt even more from the game so i have improved my actual skill level to know how to fight better

The casual moron prefers the first situation because it requires no intelligence or skill, just candy crush tier lvl ups

The irony is most rpgers will never understand this concept of real life skill being transferred to games because they are in a state of arrested devel9pment, addicted to the dopa fix of level up sounds. They dont want to play roles, they just want to grind and get pats on the back for it

          Anonymous

          >implying those scenarios are mutually exclusive
You can learn to become a more able combatant by using positioning, blocking, dodging, lunging etc, as well as learning tactics to defeat specific opponents. The presence of stats in no way inhibits this.

I know this is bait and all, but something that did catch my eye was
    >Constitution, etc

I'm betting they actually will rename some of the attributes. I don't think a separate "Intelligence" attribute will exist anymore, in order to avoid any potential drama regarding gender and race, so the functions of that attribute will probably be absorbed into Willpower, which will remain the dedicated Magic attribute.
I also think what used to be "Speed" will be part of Agility, sort of like it in New Vegas
So future TES attributes might be something like
    Strength, Agility, Willpower, Endurance/Constitution, Personality/Charisma
I doubt Intelligence and Speed will exist. Luck might also just be a racial perk and a magic effect but not an attribute

Not sure about this one, it sounds good in theory, but remains to be seen if and how something like this will be implemented.
Does it happen to npcs too? What will be the attribute caps for different humanoids and creatures?
I do expect a Giant (or whatever equivalent will exist) to have enormous Strength, but will the player character be allowed to match that?
Will Strength of a follower increase the more he uses weapons?

This sort of thing need to take into account both gameplay and immersion, like some of the stats from creatures and NPCs need to also make sense lore-wise.

    >TES: VI

  20. 2 years ago

should do the DnD approach and have attributes cap out at around 20 or so and only every increase them for big milestones in character progression. or like fallout 4 where they cap out at 10. something smaller so there is less difference inhigh and low level so the level scaling feels less extreme and you can have more hand crafted areas and enemy fights that are based around mechanics instead of raw numbers.

    idk

There’s literally no point to attributes then.

Bring back attributes but get rid of skills. Skill systems always result in unbalanced garbage as some skills will be worthless and others godlike. A simple set of stats means it is easier to balance them all to be useful.

    Skills are for gays.

      Anonymous

Shouldn't the answer be properly balancing skills and allowing for them to be used in cunning and interesting ways, instead of being a b***h and throwing rpg elements out the window because they require thinking.

        Anonymous

Skills are not RPG elements. Skills do your roleplaying for you, taking the reigns away from the player.
