On PC (with crossplay) it's taking a few minutes to get a match but it isn't that bad.
If you literally cannot find a match then check your crossplay settings. It's taking me about 2 minutes (and then another 2 for the pre lobby).

Because it literally has 0 competition. For all its faults DbD is unique in its gameplay and any other game that's tried to compete immediately blew their own kneecaps off by them being a licensed property, pigeon holing the game into oblivion. No one cares about Jason variant 6, in camp crystal lake 3, where the game last 30+ minutes. The reason why DbD is still popular is because the games are short, simple, and each killer adds some uniqueness to each round. And for some reason no other company can figure out this basic as frick gameplay loop.
That's not true though. VHS, Propnite, Deathgarden, and Last Year weren't liscenced, still all died, and BHVR made Deathgarden. The problem is that they have a hard time making the new player experience as straight forward as DbD, and they do poorly at balancing it so both sides have a chance.
Take VHS, the idea that the survivors could kill the monster was neat in theory, but in practice it meant that unless you were up against morons, monster switched from the power role to the weak role. It meant people who didn't want to run around with a team who would usually play the monster didn't stick around because after a few games of just outright losing, they just uninstall, and since it was free to play, there was no sunk cost to keep them.
It's really the balancing act every game in the asymmetrical multiplayer genre has. You need to balance so all roles feel like they have a chance at victory, otherwise one side is going to take a massive hit to players, which increases queue times, which leads to attrition on the other side, which leads to death.

It's funny because when I was a kid I had this idea that someone should make a TCM game kind of structured in this format, and like those other games like Friday the 13th and DbD. The way I envisioned it one player would play as Leatherface while the other players are just regular civilians trying to survive. The goal would be to trap Leatherface and eventually kill him while the goal playing as Leatherface would be to kill everyone. Anyway it seems like someone finally made this game but I just don't care.
