That isn't how AI works, for one. Secondly, the vast majority of concept artists in the western games industry make heavy use of photo bashing, as professionals who earn very respectable paychecks.(*as professional artists) Photo bashing being where you paint over top of reference photos and photoshopped irl images.

              Anonymous

I have never seen someone else's actual watermark in an AI generated image, just jibberish squiggles. What's happened is the AI's been trained on a large number of images featuring a watermark, and associates the concept of a identifying symbol of some sort being placed on a painting. All it is, is a large number of logic gates, that operate similarly to neurons in a human brain, taking in input data (keywords, etc) and responding with data it know to have a positive correlation to said input.

Keep in mind it's usually intentional when you get it too. Prompt "text, signature, watermark" etc and viola. Or put them in the negatives if you don't want them.

Art has a massive potential to alter the public zeitgeist. This is why the israelites worked so hard to centralize their control over Hollywood. Having control over a nation's movies and TV shows essentially gives you direct control over their values, desires, and morals. Giving the average pleb the ability to generate custom-order art on a whim completely undermines this and creates a huge potential for breakaway grassroots pieces that don't comply with the narrative that the elite wants to push.

The past few decades have been an anomaly of artgays being able to push their grift even at mediocre skill levels because of the internet giving a billions-strong group of tasteless monkeys that will eat up whatever they shit out especially if it appeals to their extremely niche fetishes. If AI is actually mass-adopted what we will see is simply a return to normal as real art becomes the domain of a small number of highly skilled artisans while AI is used to mass-produce simple assets.

Generative AI threatens prestigious, white-collar, even accredited professional jobs (see how machine-learning systems perform versus human radiologists in diagnosis for example). This wasn't meant to happen, AI and automation were supposed to continue to wreck working class sectors/labor. The seethe is for that reason alone: comfortable people who were happy with everyone beneath them being automated away, but only to that level. Same story with lawyers seething about how LLMs should not being allowed to parse and train on case law data, useless doctors terrified their decades of flowchart, algorithmic diagnosis can (surprise, surprise) be replaced by a machine.

Don't let them fool you with the "heh, we're all in it together right?" rhetoric. 99% of these people were, as stated, happy with technology wrecking the livelihoods of everyone beneath them and only those beneath them.

That's pretty much why. A lot of these people are not as smart as they think they are, and their jobs are not as hard as they make it out to be. The common "you'll be a burger-flipper" insult that these people would throw around is now knocking on their doors, since we still don't have good burger-flipping bots but we are getting better medical and lawyering AIs every day.
And that's not even counting blue-collar workers, who have no prospect of being replaced within the next decades.

Can medical AIs feasibly, after a certain level of development, be trained on new research data as it comes in? I mean supposed some data comes in that says X drug poses 3% risk of stomach ulcers to people in with Y and Z pre-existing conditions. I know that at the moment, the way we "update" medical knowledge is through conferences that, I'm reliably informed, the 20% or so of good doctors actually use to learn new information and the other 80% use to just drink or frick around/use it as a free holiday.

lol I love the "BUT YOU WANT TO SEE A REAL PERSON WHEN YOU COME TO THE DOCTOR RIGHT?" attempts at justifying their fat salaries they come up with. I've had a dozen or so GPs in my life, all but 1 have been utterly useless and their only purpose seems to be gatekeeping their patients from seeing specialists (this is in the UK mind).

Realistically 99% of what a GP does, a nurse practitioner has been able to do for a fraction of the cost for a long while now anyway. It's all just guilding the profession against competition.

They'd have to make robotics a lot more capable, reliable, and functional to replace the "working class/labor"
A lot of those jobs aren't so easily categorized compared to something that just handles visual data input.
From a different perspective on the issue,
"Chatbots" were the very first thing "AI" invented, 50 years ago. After a decade+ we still have car systems that make massive frick ups for no discernable reason.

A lot of these "smart", high payed "skilled people" are worth less than a McDonald's high schooler in reality.

Yeah, line cooks and the like are going to be around for a while, longshoremen, merchant seamen, assembly line workers etc. The labor is already fairly cheap and in a lot of cases the investment in the relevant capital equipment simply isn't worth it (if it even exists).

People don't understand most professional work *is literally* what an LLM does anyway. It's all about imbibing a ton of information and being able to call on it when required. An LLM is in some respects quite literally what a professional learns and does in their day to day work.

I dunno why some people seem so excited for AI doing this sorta stuff. I'm so happy I was born before let's say 50 years from now because life is gonna be so insufferably boring when AI is handling almost everything and it becomes impossible to tell what's AI or not.

When someone copes that "oh this sector is safe, oh *real* work will still thrive" I just want to ask you if you would have thought 50 years ago if you were around anything even close to this scale was possible of jobs being replaced. This has never happened. "Labour saving" devices being invented just mean you do the same amount of work elsewhere. If robots do actually replace 99% of workers, the rich will either sterilize the former workers in the best case scenario, or have killbots slaughter them all.

Tradies will still be fine for at least another 2 decades. Insurance companies won't accept handing shit off completely to AI even if it was capable of it and laws still require you to suffer insurance.
It's hilarious, though, how much the artgays cope trying to pretend the electrician or plumber is some simple job any robot could do just because they hate blue collar workers.

50 years ago your type of homosexuals were preaching about the new age of robotics and electronics phasing out all of those dirty blue collar peasants. Reality was they came in only with large cap entities replacing the workers and often only when they simply had physical trouble finding humans to do the incredibly mind numbing boring jobs of screwing in the same two screws/welding the exact same two lines/attaching the exact same pipes day in, day out. Mostly as the initial investment for the machines was incredibly expensive as precision components like anything pneumatics alone balloons the costs

In the end the truely soul crushing jobs got phased into robots at big fabs while small and medium enterprises kept going the manual route as the human monkey is infinitely more flexible and cheaper then the robust robots. Specially when it comes to small or single exemplar works or god forbid, any jobs on site

but I am sure your glorified algorithms shitting outputs is going to be totally different now and harbringer of the new crypto kingdoms. Not a auxilirary force part of the greater whole like the last round of robotization turned out to be.

A lot of AI enthusiasts say a lot of things but still didn't replace the "easy concept artist" jobs they said they would a year ago. Probably because past not respecting the process, they fundamentally are the weakest link in a team. Everyone's looking for the same 2 stories reported like a year ago adnauseum for proof of their philosophy, conflating an economic recession as AI's upbringing.

The artists I followed are doing better than ever even when Twitter is dying + AI spam, so lol. lmao even.

Why does AI mindbreak people so much?

This thread is a guy literally bringing Twitter AI drama to Ganker because it hurt their feelings. Artists mostly keep to themselves, AI enthusiasts literally spam treating it like a political election.

I'm not that guy, but my initial argument was geared more towards upper-middle class professions of various kinds: law and medicine are two very obvious ones. In all honesty I don't wish ill on artists, and I think a concept artist actually works harder (and smarter) than your typical GP does, and the personalized touch is harder to replicate with AI than it is a purely algorithmic process like diagnosis.

        Good take.
        >Same story with lawyers seething about how LLMs should not being allowed to parse and train on case law data
With a caveat though. Lawyers are the one who control the legal profession. At least in the US, lawyers were granted a legal monopoly by Congress. They decides to gets in and who doesn't. All they have to do is for a judge to issue a standing order "no AI in my court room" and that's it lmao, there won't be any AI (this is not a hypothetical btw, some judges already have these standing orders in place). For transactional practices, AI so far is looking ok - it drafted very good articles of incorporation under Delaware law and good legal memo for a tech startup on all the hoops you need to jump through to become a legal entity. For litigation, however, it is abysmal. Lawyers who use AI at least in court filings already face sanctions because AI tends to make up case law as it goes.

Shut the hell up, you hoser.
You see AI as a means to get rich or to make up for your own talent deficiencies, and as such you'd spin it any way possible to make things appealing to others.
Generative AI right now is making the biggest waves in the world of art and art production. So you're spinning up a story that AI is a story of the Have-Nots striking down the arrogant Haves. The little guy beating those wienery and egotistical artist.
If AI was instead doing the most damage to jobs like industrial worker or warehouse laborer (like previous types of automation did), you'd spin a story that AI was just getting rid of those that didn't deserve a job anyways for being too dumb and poor.

There is nothing to you. You are a shell that will put on any mask you can find to shill your bullshit.
You know that Ganker inherently likes stories of the 'liberal elite' failing, so that is your line of attack. On Tumblr you'd say that AI lets the disabled create what they always dreamed of. On Reddit that it is a step towards AGI and the singularity utopia.

it's bad for bad artists. good artists will probably make way more money on this. they're the ones who make styles that AIs copy, they will probably be able to trademark their style and license it out to AIs etc. or use AIs to enhance their own art.

but shit artists mass-producing garbage will be made redundant. i.e., exactly the kinds of people who obtain and retain their jobs not by talent but by social manipulation tactics like shaming. it's no surprise to see lots of them screeching like harpies over this. it's literally the only way they know how to engage with the world. it's like, imagine you have a dog. when a dog detects a problem, or something it doesn't understand, it barks at it. it isn't thinking about why it's barking, it just sees something weird and barks because barking usually solves problems. talentless people are the same. they just see a problem, and they start screeching at it, like a dog. that's all they know how to do.

zero of these AI artists dont even bother personalizing their own pictures in any manner. hence why most of it has the same looking garbage on image sites. the best of them can only use other artist's styles as opposed to the generic algorithmic shit midjourney or whatever shits out. which is funny to me, for all the shitting on 'twitter artists', many of them are quite excited to use impersonate their content.

It took him 3 months, and he gave me a shitty sketch of the character by itself, in an empty void (paid for 1 sketch + bg, and a finished lineart of the character). Everytime I asked for a status update he tried to give me a refund instead of actually working, despite being happy to take my money and linking the character.

And for the record I don't give a shit about rich people or politicians but average people will be victims, someone was already able to use an AI image to convince some dude that his daughter was kidnapped by a Mexican cartel or something and forced him to pay a ransom.

If you were actually "in it for the art" you can always link a page of an AI artist you do respect instead? But here you are arguing about Twitter followers as some objective metric (there are industry professionals with less than 200 followers btw)

The fact you need to make this argument to baby AI is hilarious. I won't even address this, the quote is comedy in and of itself, yet you'll say artists are coping.

Thinks are getting better. But you wouldn't know it from chans since coomer models aren't state of the art.

I respect AI enthusiasts that are actually making stuff because they think it's cool or are interested in the tech. That being said, 99% of AI enthusiasts I meet give strong crypto grifter vibes.

From what I understand, that progress existed as a result of more cooperation between tech companies on said tech. Now that things are starting to actually look viable, the biggest companies have stopped collaboration, and are trying to get things legislated asap, to try and build their own walled gardens. That, combined with artificial checks being put in place on certain algorithms to make them more politically correct for Black Rock funded companies, has had a negative impact on development across all of AI. Also Nvidia artificially increasing GPU prices to levels only companies can afford to buy gpus for AI dev.

If you honestly think BlackRock and co are anti-AI, you are delusional. The current AI push is done by Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI. Lol, lmao.

Well, for the most you can't because they're either not willing to or fricking dead
But with generative AI, you can
        Also, it's fun
        Why do you hate fun?
The only bad thing about AI is the possibility of a monopoly on it, and you can bet them are trying their hardest to make that monopoly a reality

If I am commissioning an artist, that means I respect their work and vision and believe it can make whatever I want made, better than I could myself.
In which case, AI provides no advantage because it doesn't have their skillset or judgement. At best, it is an empty facsimile. And that is only if I trained my AI on their copyrighted work and basically cheated them out of their effort and rights to their creation.
Otherwise, I'd rather make it myself.

I hate fun when the consequences of fun do more damage than its worth.

No it means that they can draw/make music better than I can, in a certain way at the very least.
I can't draw like Beksinski. He has a talent at drawing the grotesque and inhuman while still identifiable that I probably couldn't ever match.
If I commissioned something from a guy like that, it'd be entirely based on their specific skills and vision that I don't have.

An AI could never replace him because what I want, is what only he can give.

And then an actual AI replicating his brain to the last neuron is created. There is nothing only a specific person can give, because for any product made by a human there is some computer program that replicates exactly that product down to the last molecule.

              I am absolutely correct.
Good games have art in them that is made with the intention of furthering the atmosphere and message of the game.
It is made by people with skill and vision who care about the details of what they're creating.

AI isn't going to give some Amadeus of game design the keys to the kingdom so they can make the Best Game Ever. They're just going to enable shitty studios to drop more and more algorithmically generated games that are designed to be as low rent and cheap as possible.

Look gay, you'll have more money to make better games if the cost to make quality art goes down due to ai. It's pretty fricking simple to understand.

              Anonymous

As the cost drops, so does the quality of the artwork.
Artwork made by a person, even the cheapest and simplest, has more vision and intention to it than any generative AI product could.
What do you mean by a 'better game'? What part of game design or budgeting is limited in scope because of art asset creation costs? The only real answer is the actual volume of stuff within the game, but more is not always or even usually better in video games. See the sludge of Ubisoft sandboxes that are massive in scope but empty inside.

You don't pay attention to AI art then. Good game art can't compete with what AI shits out easily. You probably play dog shit games too, given your bias.

Really, when did AI art generators develop sentience or the ability to have an artistic vision?

Good artists generally think about every detail they include in their work, which is something AI can't quite do yet to the same effect
So it's good for generating textures but if your game includes important occult scribblings or some other significant detail then you probably shouldn't randomly generate it
Especially in horror or psychological games where tiny details can be used for great effect, you're not going to get the same impact if you know some AI put it together haphazardly so it doesn't really mean anything to anyone

Like, will there be some sort of quality control commission for AI images to ensure only the best of the best get chosen or will they just feed you garbage images, but hide it with "innovation! First anime to ever be 100% generated by ai" marketing speak?

This thread made me watch the review and you all are homosexuals blowing what he said out of proportion. 95% of what he said about the game was singing its praises and then he was wondering why the team was including poorly made AI art along with really well made art. The AI art he showed was really bad and I don't know why the team included it when all of the important art is made by hand. He showed off pictures of AI generated scientists that had fricked up hands and stuff like that.

The AI art included is not important, as in they did not make a story necessary piece of art out of AI. They did not need to use AI art to finish the product. It is like they made the AI art as placeholders and didn't not replace them until the last few days.

You also ignored the rest of my post where everything else he had to say was popular, including going as far as to say it is one of the most atmospheric isometric games ever made and that the studio was punching well above their weight. He listed his opinions, the vast majority of which were positive and then gave a few negatives including out of place, poorly made AI art.

If the AI art wasn't important, than why does it need to be brought up like it's a negative? Why go after the devs for it on Twitter? There's some cognitive dissonance here. I'm not talking about the review itself, I'm talking about how a YouTuber thinks it's okay to harass Vidya developers for including content he doesn't like, which he did. To the point where they had to release an update to remove said content.

Holy shit you sensitive fricking baby, are you on the dev team? Why are you crying? Why are you whining?

The team is moronic for using poorly made AI art when it was not necessary. It was clearly a mistake, a mistake they knew was the case because they had fixed it weeks ago (according to them) yet they had not pushed the update. So basically what you're doing right now is trying to defend devs who know that they messed up with the poorly made AI art, fixed it, yet did not deploy the fix yet and then did after the game got more attention from a popular reviewer. The devs were not mad either. Their response is as followed on their video.

So, now that you see the team thanking him for the review and the deep dive on the game (as well as the previous review he did for the first game) are you gonna keep crying like a little b***hboy?

the criticism wasn't even about the morality of using AI art instead of hiring an artist, he was just complaining about how distracting it is to notice AI filler art mixed in with carefully placed art with foreshadowing. Some of it they could have just tried harder to clean up and it would have looked more professional. He even admits he was nitpicking about it as you could handwave the dumb fricked up AI hands as part of the uncanny valley tone the game went for.

Give me one reason why generative art is bad, and do not appeal to emotion because emotions aren't real.

If your creation does not require the physical suffering of the creator (not mental, emotions aren't real), it is not worth anything. Buildings always have industrial accidents and even when they don't give the people who build them arthritis and back problems and all sorts of awful shit. Oil rigs kill people all the time. Artists frick their wrists up and kill themselves all the time. That gives the art value. AIjeets just type some words in, the worst they deal with is some tendonitis easily treated by NSAIDs. It's valueless, and valueless things shouldn't exist.

Mental suffering isn't real, and typing words into a prompt isn't physical suffering. It's not art. It's valueless, and valueless things shouldn't exist.

              Anonymous

There is no physical toll that isn't easily treatable and prevented by simply stopping doing it. Artists get carpal tunnel and shit or have autism fits where they cut their ears off. AIjeets don't suffer so they don't understand that, they think cutting their finger is "suffering." This devalues their work to the point of valuelessness.

value is relative, and if you ask me you have negative value

Negative value doesn't exist, that's just a relative reference. My posts, your posts, are all valueless since no physical suffering is required.

              >valueless things shouldn't exist.
              Then why do you exist?

Because I physically suffer through my employment of choice, and also to make others suffer.

Honestly it feels like the other way around. Twitter artists didn't make this thread. In fact, they're never the ones picking fights on Ganker. They're making memes in drawgay threads.

A lot of AI enthusiasts latch onto concept art because they think that it's the easiest vector to force the tech into. "oh they photobash, oh the painting is messy, they're lazy!". When in reality it's very hands on into development and about rapid iteration in context of the current state of the game.

I saw a guy at a AAA company laughing at the AI job applications they were getting.

Because the AI art was bad. This is the thing no one is mentioning. Most of it was nonsensical. Fixing that final 10% once the illustration is already baked in is counter intuitive and time consuming in and of itself.
The only time using AI in this case makes sense is if it's meant to do 90% of the work and you're fixing that final 10%. If you're doing 90% of the work, you're introducing a ton of AI generated errors in that final 10% for no reason outside of "muh progress :))"

They can also draw and at the same time output more work with the help of new tools. This is just new age luddism

You cant use the word luddite if you aren't making better art than the source material. The moment you cannot do that is the moment you have to concede it is not objective progress.

        Anonymous

        >You cant use the word luddite if you aren't making better art than the source material
This is a subjective argument and it's also besides the point as AI can be used for entirely different ends that hand-made art is practically incapable of. Luddites have always claimed that new forms of art are inferior to the established ones of their time.

Mainly optimizing workload. Theoretically it's possible to create thousands of assets by hand, the same way it's theoretically possible to paint a photorealistic image rather than simply using a camera if you waste enough time on it, but why do it if will cost tons of time and resources and the result will be effectively the same? AI is the only thing that can optimize the increasingly bloated AAA dev cycles we're seeing today.

People could probably make better products by hands than the machines available in the time of the actual historical luddites. The machines could do it faster, cheaper and easier, which is exactly what what is ludicrously referred to as AI today does too

AI will be able to create not only art, but novels, eventually animated movies and games. All of it is based on the artist, but when AI will gain consciousness, or a simple resemblance of one, we will be able to create completely original art just like humans. It is already too late.

Growth is still exponential but it's in the research state, not the product state. At any given moment someone can convert research into tools or toys, and they often do(pic related), but most of the big advancements are just iterative papers that improve formulas over and over before they randomly diffuse into the public or even private spheres.

With attachment rates of less than 10% where UPS made an add making fun of how many VR returns they had to process. Because clearly VR fans and developers are happy right now :^) Currently the Quest 2 goes for less than 2/3rd its MSRP in the used market and the Quest Pro goes for less than 50% of its MSRP used. Exponential progress boys to the moon have fun staying poor

I'm going to make a science fiction food analogy about where generative AI currently is.
    >Star Trek replicators become real
    >Any meal you can think of is just a push of a button away
    >Except these early models cause there always to be a bit of sand mixed in the food
    >Some foodstuffs attract more sand some less
    >You'll not get sand-free food out of the machine
    >Everyone can tell that the tech is revolutionary but needs time
    >Except now whenever a new restaurant opens up you have to check if they actually cook their food or if you are going to get fed sand
    >The sand peddlers keep telling you that they are the future of the restaurant industry and the future is now
    >Everyone who doesn't want sand in their food is a bitter chef holding back progress

    Intelectual property doesnt exist.
Trying to justfy the State to enforce copyright laws to protect corporations and artists from competition because you are afraid you will make less money, trying to use the monopolly of violence of the State to submit people for money, is wrong.

Material property is not the same as owning recombinatiom of information and trying to suppress other peoples minds of using patterns to make money just because you want to be the sole dictator of that specific pattern.

They've only "admitted it was wrong" because people were giving them shit about it. They do not actually care unless its affecting them negatively.

In a year or two with property trained AI's you won't even be able to tell the difference if the creator set it up properly. I fully expect AI witchhunts to happen where people start full on accusing regular artists of AI work

Mandalore likes shitting on indie devs for reasons no one can understand as of yet. He keeps doing it while claiming he isn't.
He knew what would happen having such a focus on it in his video and still felt the need to do it. It felt like he was threatening or blackmailing the devs.

AI has no soul by definition. It's the epitome of consumerist culture where "art" is reduced solely to its visual appeal and capital value. There is no creative or emotional or intellectual process, only an algorithm that reproduces dreamlike patterns only superficially looking like something with a genuine creative spark. You can use AIslop for any personal purpose but comparing it to actual human art, even shitty human art, is the difference between consoomers and actual human beings.

its how its supposed to work, but it cant actually be distinguisable from the actual artist. its always possible to tell its not the real thing, especially if its more than one image you are looking at

10 years of his work sounds a bit excessive, usually checkpoints don't need that much for the dataset or they turned out weird, for example a trained a LoRA (half a checkpoint) of this girl called "Ana Cris" she was my college crush, and it came out pretty well, i only needed 38 pictures of her

An artist without an original idea is just a tool, same as AI. The artist did not conceptualize or plan the game, did not design the story or themes. He drew what the director told him. Now most of you "artists" have never actually done a creative thing in your life, never made a story or examined human psychology, but you think you should have societal power to gatekeepers idea men. You are luddites, and unless you actually have a point to your prowess you become a less valuable tool as time progresses.
