yeah wait till you have to do it again with the fricking pea shooter....
I like the bracelet but I wish it had a charge attack.
>tfw you beat the final boss and have to beat the game again
Frick this game.
this. the biggest "frick you" in gaming history
It's a short game and you don't have to do anything. You can stop playing at that point and it'll be okay. Your life will continue as it would have. The game's extra challenge is a good thing, and only a good thing. Such a thing could be done better, but it's not done badly here.
stage 5 was the best thing id seen in a console game up to that point. i was blown away. it just pulls you right in.
unfortunately that concept is lost on smelly zoomers.
There's a code that can send you straight to the final stage right off the bat to make the second play shorter.
I can't beat the raft/ocean stage and once I run out of continues I just lose the will to keep going. I made it farther in Ghosts N Goblins on NES. Got to stage three at least, but that took all day.
>mfw that second stage bullshit apartment complex with the bald yellow b***hes dropping shit on you and birds dodging your attacks and then you barely have enough time to fight the TWO bosses afterwards
Once you get used to the fact that the raft follows your movement and you can jump freely 2-2 gets easier. The following levels are pretty short too, you should give it another go.
Why did no other game try to replicate the double jump on SGnG? It's the standout feature of the game.
Volgarr the Viking did, but that's it.
despite being frustrated by it as a kid, it does have its charm
It's a weirdly easy level for it's place in the game but it's charming
Hard committal jumps like that kinda died off along the way, I can't even say it's a modern problem because I'm hard pressed to think of examples outside of GnG and Classicvanias
Both of the Prinny platformer games have it. Of course, it also has a stomp which can make it easier to control where you land compared to Ghouls n Ghosts.
>Why did no other game try to replicate the double jump on SGnG?
Klonoa kind of did it.
The Prinny games have it. There's also Cursed Castilla/Maldita Castilla.
I feel like I'm missing one but I can't remember.
Ghosts n Demons also has it
Fantastic game btw
Xain'd Sleena also used a double jump.
Casual mechanic.
I never got through the demon king with the pea shooter.
If you feel strong try the fastrom version.
>Doing professional run
>Get to second loop
>Get Goddess Bracelet
>Get to one of the last stages, the really vertical one with ladders
>Smash open chest, crossbow spawns
>Jump over it and proceed onwards, get to the top of the first shaft
>Get hit by an imp and knocked all the way back down onto the crossbow
I deserved it for smashing open that chest. But frick me.
kino
what the hell is that blurry piece of shit image? delete it immediately
I shall do no such thing, you swine
One of my favorite 2D action games, glad to see others enjoy it
I've been replaying it for years and it just gets better.
Also has one of the craziest stage 1s in gaming
I hate the arremers, only way I could surely kill them before they got a hit in was using knife magic to kill them before they even moved
Here's one hanging out in the floor where I couldn't him, that little bastard
Gold armour knife super charge insta kills them
Crossbow (any version) wrecks them pretty well. I don't think they try much (or maybe at all) to dodge the multiple upward shots, and of course the homing projectiles can reach them easily. With other weapons... yeah I just use the charge-up spell. Any one works, since they all make you invincible, and all but the crossbow one inflict damage as well.
They're much, much weaker here compared to other games. They don't stand a chance against the gold armor, you can nuke them the instant they appear onscreen. And even just the bow is pretty effective.
I find them harder than the ones in Ghouls'n Ghosts. In GG I just position myself correctly and kill them when they fly over me, in super GG I find them very challenging without the golden armor or arrows.
One of my favourites. Completed it probably 50 times. Out of those 50 times I’ve managed to do a deathless run. I’ve yet to do a perfect hitless run.
Post proof
The best GnG is Super GnG
I have only managed to beat this game with save states. I cannot imagine doing it without them, imagine dying dozens of times and having to start from the beginning of the game..
if you play on easy it's almost impossible to be out of lives due to the amount of lives and continues you gain along the way
You have to have a plan for each level, strats for the bosses and practice them enough to beat the game (twice) without using a continue, then we say you cleared the game. Next would be a no-death run, much harder but doable.
After that probably speedrunning clears.
My first time beating it was with save states, but then I did it legit a day later and felt really good about it.
Its impossible to run out of lives before the final level unless you're really bad or ignoring all the money bags. The final level doesn't have enough bags to give you a full continue assuming you collect everything on your 3 lives, so you're effectively limited there, though assuming you come in with the maximum amount of continues (which you should have naturally) you would still have a grand total of like 50+ continues to work with with assuming you grab all the bags every life.
