If wangblows 12 forces people to change over to SteamOS in droves you can bet valve will develop it even more than they have. They started developing it as a hedge against things like the windows store in the first place, these moves probably make it even more important to them. How did the rejection of Cortana teach these fricking morons nothing?

I think everyone forgets that Valve has non-gaming software already available for sale on Steam, mostly developer tool software or random shit like wallpaper engine or displayfusion. If they quietly provided support for those and made them work on linux smoothly they would have a stable foundation for non-gaming purposes.

Doesn't this already happen? I had to fully remove Windows Defender from my PC to unzip a cracked game, because otherwise it would fail, file would be gone, and nowhere to be seen in history.

Took like 4 tries and had to massively gimp my OS. So can't imagine once it uses AI to detect any pirated games, movies, TV shows, etc. and deletes them automatically.

Once 12 becomes the earliest release that has security support, piracy will take a massive, massive hit. 90% of the world on a OS that can't house pirated content will destroy seeding of basically everything.

It'll last about year. After that people will come up with work arounds. Some sites already moved away from torrents and went back to sites like MegaUP 1Ficher which is less then ideal but it solves the seeding issue until they get taken down. For older stuff like game roms pre DVD era they can be stored on private servers. Never underestimate the pirate and the lengths they'll go to get stuff for free

          Anonymous

Not to be rude, but I don't see how this is better.

Those websites impose restrictions if you don't pay for a membership, and multiple sites means multiple different subscriptions - piracy is no longer free.

Centralised sites means that content is controlled and can be deleted at a moment's notice. Private company whose ToS you (had to) agree to.

They will likely adopt the same technology as Microsoft to detect pirated content on their own servers.

Even if you were able to download it, Windows 12 would delete it.

And in future you will need a valid license or key to connect to sites, Chrone's Web3 system, so if you aren't on the latest OS with the latest security updates, no HTTPS connection for you.

Better start stocking up on HDDs and hoarding as much data as you can, then making backups of your backups.

windows defender isn't bad though, it points out files that are actually suspicious or have the capability to do real harm with whats inside them and stops things from running if they're bad without being too pushy and deleting pirated content JUST BECAUSE its pirated.
That anon must have installed something fricking awful if it took that much effort, usually you can just tell windows to allow the quarantined file even if its says "severe"

If windows defender actually did cause harm I'd concede but it just tries to stop potentially harmful software from running, by all means microsoft could just choose to lock it into windows at all times and never let it stop running but they do allow users to control what is ok and what isn't, so I really don't understand this setthing hatred of defender.
Did you struggle to install a crack? Get a zip file deleted without backing it up? I'm confused as to why you despise it so much when it strikes a somewhat reasonable balance between being forceful for the sake of idiots opening things they shouldn't and being a little flexible for some files that by all means it should just nuke on sight.

It definitely has stuff against piracy. I specifically forbid it from scanning the location where my windows activator files are, and yet every single day 24 hours on the dot, it scans them, deletes them, warns me about "malware" found, and only THEN checks the rule that says that file is off-limits, quickly restores it and edits the detection history.

I literally just finished setting up W11 for a friend who bought a $200 chink mini pc with Intel N95 chip and 16GB RAM. It doesn't get more budget than that and it was running at 2% CPU usage after updates.

My laptop gave me a notification about a windows update, didn't think anything of it, left the room for about an hour & came back & it tried installing windows 11 on its own & failed. Weeks went by where everything was normal & then one day I booted the laptop & the homescreen was completely different & I realized I now had windows 11. I don’t like it but I've gotten used to it, some really moronic design choices were made.

The only thing that had me pulling my hair out was the changes to File Explorer. Having to manually add "Date" to Sort By command, folders appearing on the bottom of the page, having to tell it to stop grouping files by date every other day, and for awhile no folder preview really really annoyed me. Another thing I hate about 11 is when I go to open a file in the pictures program that came with 11 while previewing it in file explorer it'll say the procedure isn't recognized. I'm forced to open in firefox or chrome which is a massive pain.

I literally just updated to Win11 for direct storage. They should really stop making new Windows versions until they actually make everything match. Windows 11 feels like it's running 3 different versions of Windows. The fricking right click menu having an option to show the old right click menu that goes all the way back to Win 98 is insanely stupid. Control panel is still Windows 7 and separate from the settings menu. Laterally what are they doing? I can't even imagine what spaghetti code this OS is running on.

      Anonymous

I don't think the classic menu will survive Win12 launch, right now it's pretty much done except for just a few things like the nVidia control panel and maybe some other programs here and there, but the main functionality is working. Now it's up to the software developer of those products to support the new context menu. Latest Winrar already added support but 7zip hasn't yet.

        Anonymous

I haven't even bothered install zip or winrar because the extract feature in W11 is actually really nice. I like how it automatically opens the new folder folder it makes after you extract

That won't change with windows 12. Windows has been spaghetti code for the last 20 years. At most all the can do is try and make everything cohesive and comprehensive. I feel they're trying that but can't really nail it. Pajeets coding am I right?

You literally never have to use the command line in modern linux distros. Any windowsgay could easily pick up any of the popular distros.

Except all your examples are of inefficient methods that aren't following optimizations.

oddly, this obsession with AI is making regular humans more important in any setting. Nobody asked replace billions of jobs with AI, now your customers are annoyed and you are losing sales because customers are flying to competitors who still using humans in lots of areas.
There has been an explosion in AI applications that have come out, the idea being that organic lifeforms have finally hit a point where they're building the coding that will allow a AI to take their place. I have never once seen those tools properly used by any place or are just a proof of concept. Man, we can't program our $60 USD videogames without bugs

AI is a productivity tool. Game devs are already using it for boilerplate code and that's a nontrivial use case. Most of the games being released now started development before ai exploded. After ai, all software devs are able to 5x their productivity. Graphic designers can integrate it into their workflow for textures and fixing models. Debuggers can use it to increase their efficiency too. If you thought games in 2023 were good you havent seen anything yet. Soon indie games will look like today's AAA, and AAA will be unimaginably big with faster turnaround time.

yes. same with "grey man" - that ryan gosling stinker on netflix. you can tell because, just like any other writing it does, the story is completely fricked. just totally wigged out, disjointed, nonsensical, pointless, etc. it has zero understanding of story telling principles, human desire or motivation, it has no historical literary precedent, i could go on. it simply lacks soul, but what really makes it trash is that it simply also doesn't know how to TELL the story it does whip up and Black person-rig. fricking dead reckoning both spoils itself AND creates a massive, mind boggling fricking plothole in the first 5 minutes of the movie. it is unbelievable

it also doesn't open up like every other mission impossible nor does it follow the mission impossible beats, and to top it off, has THE worst dialogue and jokes in not only the M:I series but compared to many other movies

it genuinely made me mad to watch and i didn't even pay for it. if you haven't seen it yet, DON'T. FRICKING. BOTHER. it's 3 hours of unrepentant DOGSHIT. total waste of my life

unfortunately unless they outright use it as a marketing gimmick the abject failures of AI are more covert and insidious and generally just poisonous to the whole content of a movie than just making it look shitty or putting a Black person on the cover. the kind of shit it fricks up is stuff you'll only notice if you sit down and start wasting your time watching it, more so if it dawns on you after 20-30 minutes of nonsense. i've noticed they don't like revealing when they had a chatbot write their script - probably to try and gauge how "good" it really is.

and so, well, if any israelites are reading this. STOP. it's not going to work and never will. hire me instead to write your movies instead you baby blood stained semites. not your nephew yoshua, not the newest version of chatgpt, not laqueeshiums or roflondra, ME. A POWERFUL, INTELLIGENT, WHITE MALE. you guys use to do it and that worked, and now you don't and none of it works... huuhhhhh hmmmm guhhhhhh durrrrr what could possibly have changed.....

Can't even use it for farming 1000+ acres of food. Can't even fly a plane without a pilot overseeing it. AI is just another wrench in the toolbox of men, all this idolatry and worship is like worshipping a fricking screwdriver.

I'll never stop being annoyed that ProtonDB doesn't even show what those "top 10", etc., games are. When you actually look up a game, it only shows Platinum/Gold/Silver/etc. and these Tier N ratings are only in aggregate stats that don't show what the games are, so I can't see a single actual example of what game is supposedly Tier 2 for example. Idiotic.
Anyway, half of those top 10 are probably broken due to anti-cheat. Nobody who chose to use Linux really cares about those games. Otherwise they would have stayed on Windows. Try not to be too butthurt about this but my favorite games work without any issues. That means I click play and they play. Do the "noooo you're lying" routine for my amusement.

Honestly too soon. For many reasons.
The slow 11 adoption is already an issue, with most people realizing it is a worse version of 10 with extremely stringent hardware requirements so many people that would have tried it out literally can't, my old computer still works fine I don't need to replace it until breaks.
They should stick with making windows 11 not shit right now. It will be a middle finger to everyone that did switch because frick you we're moving on. Not mention Windows 10 isn't even of service by june 2024. If they want to do insider preview of build of 12 and not do wide scale release that is their best option right now.

Youngest generation of coders don't care about optimizing. They don't even understand the concept as they don't have any reason to do it, always having strong hardware at hand. I remember that when I started to learn coding at uni (stupid obligatory programming related subject every single semester, I hate coding even today), I had no motivation for optimizing until I had to code for micro controllers with 1 kilobytes of memory and THEN I understand why it matters.

Plusz they force sales of new hardware that way. If your CPU is still fine and kicking because you happened to buy strong one back then (like my i7-6700k from 8 years ago, replaced only few months ago by i7-13700), there is no reason to change it and poor hardware stores are starving.
