It was pretty fun from what I remember. Along the lines of Zombies Ate My Neighbors and Ghoul Patrol.

It's a shame the development was rushed, could've been a great title.

iirc the xena game on ps1 is an adventure game while the N64 one is a 3d arena fighter

    HEY!
    WHAT THE!

The only advantage Herc has is that he starts already able to lift heavy things, which the other characters can achieve with 2 or 3 upgrades.
Atalanta is the best because her special move is useful.

That better be a Dingo Pictures production.
I won't accept my ultra-low-budget knockoff production if it's not full of that special irreplaceable Dingo beauty!

    >My bad, son I keep forgetting you're a friendless weirdo.
Anyway both are good games, but this one doesn't get enough credit for having a fully seamless (and massive) game world with no screen transitions between areas or even interiors/exteriors. It's ironic that a game that was perceived as outdated in its time was much more innovative that some of its 3D contemporaries.

Yeah, but the lack of a quick-travel feature means most of the game is backtracking through the same areas over and over and over again. You don't notice it at first, since the game shoves you through some areas you really only visit the once. Then you reach the first real town. The missions start easy. First one being to head south and take care of grabbing the prize cow. And with some gyro's, it's not too bad. The area is even good for farming coins and spears.
From that point onwards, every new quest usually goes the same way. Travel back to the first town, harvest ton of coins, max out on gyro's, max out on coins, head to the next town you want to be at, re-stock on gyros, try to complete current quest, repeat. You can harvest coins elsewhere, but that one place south of the first town really is the safest and best spot to harvest. By the end of the game, you don't want to even attempt going to the really difficult areas without a full stack of gyros and plenty of coins for buying more if you happen to find a vendor.
The game would be much improved if gyro salesmen just gave you a full stack when you talked to them, acting as a HP refill point in towns or specific areas of the map. Then coins would just be for buying weapons for boss battles, and the game would have a lot less grinding and backtracking.

        >First one being to head south and take care of grabbing the prize cow.
one of the few games i wasn't able to finish. there's no way you could know you had to carry the cow over to the big lady in the city if you weren't an english as a first language as a little kid. subtitles could have helped, with the word cow emphasized.
since then most open world game makes sure you can beat them even if you were illiterate.

I have never played Disney's Hercules, I assume it was only for the PS1 and maybe PC? Seems odd that it never appeared on the N64. I did get to play Herc's Adventure on the Sega Saturn back in the day, and while I never finished it, I honestly really liked the game a lot. Visually it looks great for a 2D 32bit game. Gameplay is a little Ghoul Patrol/ ZAMN, but also reminds me of Beyond Oasis or to a lesser extent, the game is a Zelda clone. Disney's Hercules looks like a 2.5D platformer.

It's actually a pretty good game, plays like Zombies Ate My Neighbours. I've finished it in around 15 hours, it can get pretty hectic in some parts. I still have no idea how you're supposed to properly beat the final boss - I just hit him while tanking damage and it worked.

Also, this game has a pretty smart way to count Continues. Whenever you die, you go to Hades and have to get out to come back where you were. However, every time you die you start farther and farther deep in Hades, and by the 6th time, there's no way to get out. Game over.
