I emulated this shit for a solid 10 hours to get a feel of the gameplay and I dropped it somewhere around the third area (the ruined city with a chimera running around under a bridge) because I knew fatlus would release this on steam
it being a definitive edition just makes it that much sweeter but the story is dog shit so I'll probably snag the game next christmas sale tbqh kek

I intentionally went out of my way to play the most basic version of Nocturne, the version without the Fiends, Labyrinth of Amala, Lucifer battle, Dante, or Raidou because I wanted to understand just how good the base game is, so I can't really complain. Still haven't played the later versions, but I feel like everyone who sucks Nocturne's dick never played the first.
There isnt a single SMT/Persona game where the enhanced version is clearly better than the original version. They always add decent QoL stuff and some good content, but all of them often frick up the pacing by stuffing the game with unneccesary filler. Nocturne is a good example, the original version is definitely the more cohesive experience, doesnt overstay its welcome at all.
Worst part about Nocturne is the fact that TDE sort of kills any nuance to the endings of the game with a clear 'true ending'. At least with remakes like SJR there's still the 3 'true ending's to choose between
It also doesnt fit the tone established in the game. It is hype but again the original is superior, all of its ending have an ominous, surreal quality to them, nothing being resolved fits the setting perfectly. Doing the Amala labyrinth and killing the fiends doesnt justify the 180 of the where the story is going.
Being the guy who played the base version, there is a very obvious true ending, the Freedom ending. Musubi, Yosuga, and Shijima are all slightly different flavors of one ending. The "Demon" ending or whatever it's meant to be called is the token bad ending that ends the game pre-true final boss, much like IV's black hole ending, Apocalypse's Law and Chaos endings, and V's Humanity (aka Neutral) ending.
Nocturne is a game where the main theme is Chaos, a direct opposite to II where the main theme is Law. The three standard Reasons are your Law endings, even if they try to masquerade as versions of Law (Shijima), Neutral (Musubi), and Chaos (Yosuga). All three endings are achieved by bowing down to the rules of the universe, playing the game, being a pawn to another's Reason, and following the course of Conception as Kagutsuchi sees fit.
But Freedom is different. The Demi-fiend's final race is King of Chaos. Freedom is the merit of Chaos, the very thing that validates its existence. Yuko lacks the resolve to form her own Reason, Demi-fiend is the one to solidify it. The Demi-fiend, who is rejected by the world as a being capable of enforcing a Reason, who Kagutsuchi itself angrily rejects when you fight it with it in your heart. You return your world to how you want it, now an enemy of the universe, but with Lucifer pledging to become your ally. The ending is so different to the others, so emblematic of your choice of Chaos, so upbeat even, that it's easily the definitive ending. You even have to fight all three avatars, much like how Neutral in I and IV require you to fight all the endgame bosses.

Is this the "it strays from the original vision so it's bad" autism? God they should've let sonic keep his blue arms to piss you kids off.
I explicitly stated "clearly better". I'm just saying that with most enhanced editions the good stuff is outweighed by bad stuff. Think of P4G and fricking Marie.
The original version of Nocturne released in Japan on the PS2 with the dark blue box art. The updated version released a year later with white box art and was called Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne Maniacs. This is the version that got localized, though it dropped the III and the Maniacs from the title. The localized version has the red box art and the infamous "Featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series!" watermark.
About 4 years later in Japan, they released a special edition of the second Devil Summoner: Kuzunoha Raidou game on the PS2 with an updated version of Nocturne that replaced all the Dante stuff with Raidou. This version was called Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne Maniacs Chronicle Edition. This was also the version that was the basis for the HD Remaster, and the first time all the Raidou story content was officially translated into English, while the Dante content became a paid DLC alternate story route. However, because South Korea was really sensitive about Raidou's school uniform reflecting imperial Japan, that wasn't the version they could release there as the standard. So through Steam only, the version they released was an HD Remaster of the original Japanese PS2 version translated, with the Raidou Maniacs content being free optional DLC to bring it up to parity with the console versions and Dante continuing to be paid DLC. But I don't think it's EXACTLY the same as the original in terms of content. Early events don't have Demi-fiend's original base version hoodie with different stats.

Nintencope, seeing Nintendies and Snoys crying will never not be funny.
newbie, it you had been here for more than a month you would know the game did not work on emulator back then, most people couldn't get past the name input screen without crashing
That's just the original intended Nintendo Switch experience.
Just like seeing a BLM splash screen is the intended Snoy Playstation experience every time you watch a new movie

The Japanese text said "it's possible to raise the cap to 150" and not that it was increasing to 150. Since the EO director is on SMT5 I willing to bet it is going to be tied to killing super bosses like in EO.
the thing that sucks is the main (base) story is still going to be ass and I'm pretty sure the other route will answer or add NOTHING to the main story and just be a complete other ball game.
I will buy the game (again) for Switch but play on Xbox if it comes to game pass.
It's easier to make vids, plus I want to brag with my solo run. Again.

>Anyone else afraid the Vengeance path will be as sparse as the original path storywise? Like they just do alternate scenes
Afraid? That is what I am hoping for. The story is like 1-2 hours out of 80 hours of the game.I am assuming the story will need to change on both sides to accommodate a new dungeon and da'at. If I wanted a MegaTen that is more story than gameplay, I would play Persona.
Do you think there will enough new content to spread over another 80hr campaign though? I don't mind the lack of story, but I'd expect a lot of new demons and bosses and maps, but I think we'll see a lot of recycled stuff. I thinking rather a shorter new story.
>1 more dungeon >1 more da'at >40 more demons >All demons have special ability >More side quests
Some of that will be locked behind day 1 DLC, do know how much.
Day 1 DLC consist on two demons, with a sidequest each to recruit them. If it's anything like the day 1 DLC of the original game, the sidequest it's probably just "Find the demon, fight the demon" and that would be about it. Still, the base game put more effort on the Demified DLC, which is still just a series of bosses, but still more of a full sideques none the less. So maybe this two will have more going than Cleopatra, Mephisto and Artemis in the base game. I don't expect much, tho.
>unless its cheaper on switch for people who own the game already i will probably pass.
It is on the Japanese Switch site. I don't know whats a good price for games in yen so I dont know much. We will find out next week. But for me, whatever the savings is, isnt worth it to keep playing on the Switch.

I honestly was willing to double dip for the better framerate on PC alone when this was just a rumor, even before the Korean ratings leak. So, all this extra content, and the option to start from it, it's perfect for me. But yeah, I don't see how this can be worth for Switch users online, unless they skip the original, or get it in a very good sale. Or the rumors about Switch 2 offering performance upgrades are true, but even then, that involves getting the new console, which I assume many will, but still.

I got 100hrs out of SMTV on Switch. I don't feel particularly cheated. This will almost certainly get a deep discount due to Sega so if the new content is good, I'll just pick it up on Switch again, carry over my team and doing some handheld fusing. It'll be summer when it releases so I'll be spending a lot of time on the back porch anyway.
yeah i'm actually kinda sad it doesn't look like they're gonna fix the problems of the base route and I don't think the new route is going to be as good as SMT IV was.
>Thanks for beta testing.
No problem happy to help, so i expect the game will run smoother on yuzu than the original version did. I mean you did listen to beta tester feed back right?
Im still pissed about the original release, and now Im even more pissed that they're RERELEASING IT AGAIN! You know damn good and well that Atlus isn't going to throw a bone to the people who bought the underwhelming og release, and it's just them throwing salt on the wound. Frick atlus, stupid fricking Black person company. Ill suck myself off if they allow me to upgrade for even half the price of the original.
>You know damn good and well that Atlus isn't going to throw a bone to the people who bought the underwhelming og release,
They kind of are, you can get Reincarnation edition on Switch which is the deluxe edition with a slight discount. But it is still more expensive than the regular edition.
Oh Im aware of the shitty dlc practices, but I was atleast giving Atlus the benefit of the doubt on making a game worth the fricking price tag. I've noticed this decline in quality since the release of P5R and the trillions of spinoffs that they're milking out of the P5 train. I was hoping that with all this bank they're making, they would atleast FINISH MAKING SMT V. Now they're asking for 70$ just for the price to entry, to which I say Atlus can suck my nuts.
I should be more upset, but I did wait two years before biting, and the Vengance content can be accessed from the get go, and from my point of view, don't seem to make that much sense without the "original experience", so I take it. Will still wait for a sale, tho.
I thought Vengeance was a sequel
They explained you couldn't transfer save data but you can transfer up to 3 demons from the OG game
So is it a sequel or not?
No, it's an expanded version of the game.
This time you have 2 routes to choose from. Think of it...Fire Emblem Three Houses and Fire Emblem Three Hopes, but the same gameplay (not SRPG vs musou game), and in the same package.
>So is it a sequel or not?
Not. It is the same game with more demons, 1 more dungeon, 1 more da'at and a second story arc that diverges from the original in the middle. The original story is there too. Some of the demons had their abilities changed and they all have a unique ability now.
Speaking of unique abilities, I wonder if it's like Digimon Cyber Sleuth, and the gameplay mechanics Hacker's Memory added are also added into the original Cyber Sleuth.
Some demons already had a unique ability. IT was just a stronger version of a similar ability. Alice had hit random 2-5 dark that was pretty powerful. Now they are moving it to its own area which is great.
>This is like P5R levels of broken.
I dont think so. You get 4 more slots and some uniques in the game originally are gimped at later levels and I would replace them anyways. I will probably use the extra slot for repells.
The skill in the picture isnt a usable skill. It says if demon becomes upset during negotiation, they will intervene. Is Idun's Golden Apple going to appear there? That might be a little OP.
It's a new route. Same premise, but now new characters get involve early one, and change the rest of plot. The original story is still preserved tho, you can choice from the getgo which "route" you want, OG or Vengeance. Besides the new story, there is an expansion to the combat system, new quality of life options, more demons, and new dungeons and maps to explore, all of which seem to be shared between routes. So, even if the OG route is still the same story, I still can only assume some new content have to be made to justify the new dungeons. By all means, I won't call it a sequel, but it's big enough of an expansion to still be it's own game.
Reminder to new players - start the game on hard, from the beginning.
Since the DLC for vanilla SMT V (which I bought lel) is included in this version of the game, I will probably do another >quest demons only run
where I can use demons which are reward from quests and no recruits in fights, and no fusion. That was actually fun.
I don't think I had her. I was using demons that were rewards for completing quests, and DLC demons count as well because you get them after you complete a quest. Artemis is broken as frick; one of her attacks lower the defense of the enemy.
If this thread survives when I get home, I will check my save data to see who was on my team.

isn't devil survivor overclocked supposed to be superior?
No.

That's it though

whoaa wait watch out Ganker isn't ready for that conversation yet.
SJ I'd argue the new content kinda ruins the tone. At least Devil Survivor new content is all at the end so it's a non issue.

I jsut don't get why is max level increased to 150
maybe there's a secret superboss
Harder than Demifiend? Hm, since Dagda is in then maybe Nanashi is this superboss?
That'd be fricking kino.
