Grew up with little money. Getting a new game was a twice a year affair.
Dad gets me this for Christmas.
"T-thanks, Dad."
What was that game for you?

I didn't really HAVE TO pretend to like it but I did trick myself into thinking I liked it simply because at the time it was one of three games on the N64. The whole time deep down I knew I didn't like the game but there was a strong sense that I had to.
it was more about being grateful
n64 shit was NOT cheap back then
i got maybe 1-3 games per year birthdaychristmasetc
i had to choose VERY carefully
i liked SotE alot though
i played the frick out of it and even tried to clear on jedi-mode
>it was more about being grateful
I've gotten plenty of games I didn't like as gifts, but you learn pretty early that if you don't appreciate it when people get you stuff you won't be getting anything else for a while
I forgot about this.
I got this and cruisin USA when the 64 released.
For those that don't remember, the N64 lineup also had wave race and super Mario 64.
My parents wasted $140 on shit.
No, it was pilot wings and Mario, not wave race
Wave Race was 5 days later, it's pretty much release.
Who the frick buys a Nintendo console but not a single Nintendo game? If your parents thought SM64 was baby shit they should have bought a PS1 instead
For me it was Turok that I bought for $75. Ok game but not worth that price
I played through it earlier this year and while not the best (star wars) game on the system it was still a fun playthrough. Real shit would be superman or carmageddon
The frick man, I loved that game and played the shit out of it. I was into Star Wars a bit so this game was just so cool to me.
The first hoth level was very impressive at the time. You had to be there
Yeah the first hoth level was great. Everything after though...
Point and click adventure games on PC. My big brother liked them so we had a lot of them. I couldn't get the games I liked so I had to play his shitty games. Did I pretend to like them? I don't know but I sure played them a lot, had nothing else to play. Out of all those only Space Quest 5 I actually liked
This wasn't a bad game. I only borrowed it a few days from a friend but I have nostalgia for it. Never watched the show.
Zelda games
I was always asked what game I wanted, so it never came up. My grandma got me Capcom vs SNK on the Dreamcast one Christmas.
I'm sorry these N64 troons hijacked your thread. To be honest I have to pretend to like any game that came out on that turd of a console..
I didn't really "have to" as I had a pretty decent Genesis selection, but I felt compelled to because I was a big toon freak kid who loved anything with "mascot" characters, and I really tried to love this game and it made me want to rip my hair out
Rocky and Bullwinkle for Genesis. Oh yeah thanks Aunt Kathy, it’s fun as hell.
There wasn't much to it. I found the fuel mechanic frustrating and at the time couldn't understand why I couldn't move all the time.
Have you tried it again recently? I genuinely think it's one of the best games on the NES.
I plan to give it another shot. I played Sub-Terrania on the Genesis in my Teens which had a similar vibe which. I thought that was great.
Startropics and Bart Vs. The Space Mutants
OK, "pretend to like" wasn't something I had to do because I did like them. But I received them both as Christmas gifts in 1991, one from "Santa" and another from my uncle. This was all well and good but I was really counting on a SNES that year and to make matters worse, I had played both these games extensively through rentals. I was an ungrateful little shit.
i had this game and hated it. my family had pretty bad taste in general. man, frick this game
