Honestly, this. 2010s Sonic being mostly mid games with some hits here and there are much better than 2000s Sonic being abysmal with some mid games. 06 nearly bankrupted this franchise and with the following games that came after, Idk how Sonic survived as a franchise.
If the 2000s games were good, they'd get remakes, and yet they keep only remaking the good ones. Cope

All we have is shitty leaks from non-credible sources. Don't get your hopes up. Sonic is a baby brand first now, so we'll be getting baby games and games from the children that grew up with more recent games. The 2000s is a long time ago, not many investors care about bygone games from ancient times. They want new, or at least proven to work. That's why we get generations and not garbage like SA1&2

Frontiers is a new game tho. And it was trash. It was a long ass collection game where you did nearly nothing, listened to the th characters stand idly and talk about older games you wish you were playing instead and accomplish fricking nothing other than dusting off the lore books to shove endless references at us. If that's your pinnacle of quality, okay buddy.

Yeah, Pontac both knew what Sonic was at least and made him what he's supposed to be, a funny blue cartoon rat. Autists ruin the series by trying to turn him into some melodramatic freak. Who frickin cares how deep a story is for Sonic. Just make him funny.

>06 nearly bankrupted this franchise
As opposed to Boom which did bankrupt the franchise. 06 didn't really do too bad financially, Unleashed was the one that hit sales hard. Pipe down zoomer.
>06 nearly bankrupted this franchise
Wasn't that Unleashed?
'06 for sure destroyed the franchise's reputation(to the extent that people STILL won't shut the frick up about how bad it was nearly 20 years later), but I feel like Unleashed was the last Sonic game that felt "big-budget".
The only other Sonic game I can think of that comes close is Generations, and that reuses Unleashed's engine.
>better than [mediocre thing]
why can't it be better than Sonic 2 or 3, or sa2, or Generations or mario? why is it always mediocre slop competing for 5th place?
it has momentum
the updates are for morons who think you should have an instant skip level button and never lose speed. same people who disable air friction in the settings and have a worse understanding of physics than an 11 year old.
The worst part about the open zones for me is that all the platforming is done above the terrain on floating platforms, rather than it being naturally embedded into the terrain. no grass loops, nothing to slide under, or anything to take advantage of sonic's abilities. it's just more evidence that these maps were lifted assets from some other game sega canceled and slapped sonic on it.
originally Frontiers wouldn't have platforming. It was purely focused on combat and puzzles.
They added the floating platforming sections on the last year of development
judging from the quick preview they showed, it looks on par with the original cyberspace levels from Frontiers. So they could be short 30s -1min bursts.
Dont know if you noticed, but you got an entire Decade of shit games (and Mania) that pander to your lame preferences

Who thought the Chaotix mission nonsense was a good idea to bring back?
It was made by mobile developers and had to be fully playable with a shitty touch screen button overlay. Design-wise it's a solid direction for the series if the stages were made more complex.
it's weird because the Apple Arcade games actually seem like full games and not gacha P2W stuff like usual phone games as well, there's some actual quality control involved with it
Seems that Apple wants their arcade to have actual substance, yeah.
Titles like Shantae and the Seven Sirens, and Exit the Gungeon also debuted as Apple Arcade exclusives before getting PC/Console ports. The mobile-game roots still shine through those games, but they're still good games.
The whole draw of Apple Arcade was to make iOS seem like a legitimate game platform by offering more traditional sorts of B2P games (now known as "premium" games in the mobile market)
from what I've heard, the game wouldn't have been made at all if Apple hadn't been involved, but I haven't found anything to prove that. The developers - Hardlught is a subsidiary of SEGA. Apple are just the producers.
Needs a PC/console port so people can actually play it.
It sure as frick is better than Sonic Superstars. Superstars is embarrassingly poorly made on both a technical level and in gameplay design, which is typical of Arzest developed games who are wont to shove in things antithetical to established genres or series.
>sonic frontiers: 2022 >sonic frontiers updates/sonic dream team: 2023 >sonic dream team updates/sonic x shadow generations: 2024
So are we just getting yearly 3d sonic content now? Should we expect something for 2025 too?
>So are we just getting yearly 3d sonic content now? Should we expect something for 2025 too?
Leakers were saying Sonic Heroes remake PS5/XSX/Switch 2, though I think they've backtracked the claim slightly since.
Yeah, almost immediately once they realized how old and stupid that frickin game is. Not a single developer would want to remake that old piece of shit in unreal 5. Do you have any idea how stupid that sounds. It's infinitely easier to just make some new slop that people buy regardless of quality. It's worked before and it will forever work.
Ever since colors the games have been below average for the most part except generations which had enough effort and genuinely good classic-esque gameplay to be above average, and boom which was a funny trash fire.
I'm sick of this holding pattern. Only broken by fro tiers, which sadly was not worth it. Frontiers is a bad investment, it's boring and it's gameplay is bad. I don't know anyone who liked it that wasn't a "sonic fan". Make a good 3d platformer for God's sake.

yeah given pso came before it with similar themes i can guess where the assets came from

Until it's free of Steve Jobs' deathgrip it doesn't exist.

Unironically the correct direction for Sonic games.
No, the level artstyle and enemy designs suck. too babyish
Sonic is a kid's franchise.
They why are you playing it.
Fans dont want that shit

Being pigeon-holed on Apple only devices?
the concepts are okay but it was clearly made by people who thought sonic forces was too hard and complex
It was made by mobile developers and had to be fully playable with a shitty touch screen button overlay. Design-wise it's a solid direction for the series if the stages were made more complex.
Check the stages they just added like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRj6Soc7QYE&t=382s
How much does Apple pay for these? Surely there's got to be a draw for the companies to make games exclusive to this shit.
it's weird because the Apple Arcade games actually seem like full games and not gacha P2W stuff like usual phone games as well, there's some actual quality control involved with it
Seems that Apple wants their arcade to have actual substance, yeah.

It's an obvious assumption to make. Hardlight makes mobile games, Sega wouldn't have picked them to make a console-only game.
Needs a PC/console port so people can actually play it.

Now that it's got a ranking system and S ranks have actually strict time requirements, it's a genuinely good Sonic game.

That intro video and music tho https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rii-OEBog9A
It did happen, and I want it to happen again, but this time on legitimate consoles.
I hope it gets a Steam release some day.
It was a really dumb idea on SEGA's part to not make these titles also available on consoles and PC.
watch them shadow drop them to pc after their other businesses start showing low sales
SEGA is ran by morons, so SEGA is only going to double and triple down on their shitty choices.
Apple probably payed Sega good for this and the Puyo Puyo game, they won
They're rolling in Apple bucks and Apple pretty much puts Sonic up front with advertising for Apple Arcade, so it's a win win for Sega.
Ever since colors the games have been below average for the most part except generations which had enough effort and genuinely good classic-esque gameplay to be above average, and boom which was a funny trash fire.

It's a video game
Did it get ported to a real system/pc yet
