>that one game that you played as a kid that you just know if you replayed it now it probably will not hold up that well and it'll ruin your nostalgia for it
>play it
>it actually holds up REALLY fricking well

Holy shit this is a fun game, outdated by many standards for obvious reasons but the characters are fun, combat is fun, and the music is great

great graphics for the time at least. Tries more with its gameplay than most modern games would. Really good game

There isn't one. I'm not a moron so I'm able to judge games based on their time period. As such, all games age equally.

      tales of the abyss.

Loved it as a kid and thought the story was great. Went back and replayed it a year or so ago and it was absolute horse's ass. Good music at least

The hell are you talking about, Threads of Fate absolutely still holds up. The only thing you ever have to worry about is save scumming the last Rod fight since it can get you if you aren't careful and you'll lose finite resources to minmax 100%.
Top 3 best song in the game incoming.

What does this do? I don't think I ever did it.

Anon, that was an unofficial fangame.
But it did lead to the creation of Chantelise (which literally ToF and Zelda OoT combined). Which led to the creation of Recettear (which was literally Chantelise and Atelier Iris combined).

interesting, Chantelise and Recettear are both fantastic games

There was a Musashi 2, and it was a flop. (BFM and ToF are often compared to each other)
Didn't help that Squeenix retained almost none of the dev staff that made the first one.
And yet they had practically everyone who made Threads of Fate possible, but decided to pass on that. Squeenix does not make sound decisions.

pumpkins by themselves are fricking disgusting. Anything tastes palatable if you pump enough sugar into it, which is what you have to do to make pumpkins taste good

I never had to put sugar in my pumpkin recipes, they're already naturally sweet and hella good, ask your mom to cook some for you asap

This game feels like they intentionally tried to design the most generic jrpg protagonist ever, then for comparison made his exact opposite.

      >Rue basically misses learning about his backstory and getting closure if mint shows up to the doll master fight first
      >the game doesn't feel the need to explain what you're missing, everything just plays out naturally, they even make a joke about how the fight is emotionally meaningless
      I fricking love this game

Frick yeah I love threads of fate. It's my favorite game ever. I am an autist and replay it on my PS1 every year. I own:

    Threads of Fate (US)
    Dewprism (JP)
US and JP/FR Strategy guides - JP/FR guide has some amazing concept art
    Dewprism Soundtrack (JP)

I think I own absolutely all the physical content for this game besides the PAL version.

Never thought I'd see a Threads of Fate superfan. What was your favorite part of the game? Best boss?

        Anonymous

Yeah legit superfan, I bought the game in 4th grade after playing it on a demo disc. It fricking blew me away and for years I was just obsessed with it.

        >favorite part of the game
When mint takes prima doll to break the seal for the first time but is confronted instead by maya and her squad. But then Rue and fricking Rod "the motherfricking" BLADESTAR show up and stop them from kidnapping Prima Doll. Mint takes one for the team. It's just such a heated moment where finally all these somewhat loosely connected people become suddenly fully committed to each other. In that moment I think they make the commitment not only to risk their lives for the relic, but for one another as well. And the fricking music that plays during that is so hype, it's my favorite track.

        >favorite boss
Probably the Nightmare Horse, just nostalgic that it's the first boss and I remember it from the demo disc. I also really love that atelier. The difference in how Mint and Rue deal with the ambush really solidifies their personalities. Rue dodges like a boss, but Mint takes it straight to the face lol.
