It has absolutely no passion or spark in it. It's by far the most made-for-appeal Zelda since Twilight Princess. BoTW was new and interesting, TotK is just retreaded and bloated.

Uniornically, nothing was wrong. I feel the only downside is the fact they reused the world of the first game. Because if that, it doesn't feel as fresh to people who played BotW. The size of the world plus the two new areas leaves it massively overwhelming and daunting for people who aren't comfortable jumping in and exploring wherever they want to go. Otherwise it's the better game of the nu-Zelda formula they have going forward.

When I call a game cinematic, this doesn't just mean that it has alot of cutscenes. That's a trap designed to make you love walk-and-talk garbage like Gone Home which is technically 100% gameplay. You have to understand the motives behind the game and the fans and the developers. When they force you down a hallway to listen to exposition, was gameplay really the most important thing in their mind?
When I complain about fanservice, I show off the devastating effects that it has on the fandom and the attitude towards the game itself. This isn't about muh soggy knees, like reddit would complain about. This is a legitimate problem that impacts the gameplay.

I don't think recycling content is the worst thing as long as developers expand on the amount of complementary content proper, ER for example flubbed on this since it's just Dark Souls in a really boring, dead sandbox, instead of Dark Souls with proper towns, NPCs, player agency and quests.
I was expecting the game to just be BoTW2 with more content, which would've been fine, but instead it's BoTW 1.2 with maybe 5-7 new armor sets and some tacked on gimmick everyone gets bored of after the first few dungeons. I was really looking forward to way more armor and equipment variety and instead get BOTW DLC sets recycled as shitty rewards.
ER has 150 enemy types and 90 unique bosses.
That's more than DS1+DS2+DS3.

Otherwise it's the better game of the nu-Zelda formula they have going forward.

DMC isn't a bad series, but it's a little too flashy for my tastes. Though I guess it's alot better than Bayonetta with its full on cinematic cutscene attacks.

I dunno about you, never played a Zelda game before, I emulated TotK and the game is fricking fantastic, I personally give it a 9/10.

I can't say Zelda itself didn't deserve this for having absolutely god-awful executive direction for two decades now but frick me, what did I do to deserve having comfy adventure gaming in this state. There's not even any decent contemporary Zelda clones to fill the niche except Tunic, I guess
No dungeons or puzzles but good overworld exploration like more traditional Zeldas. Beggars can't be choosers.
Oh and give Pandora's Tower a shot if you haven't already. It's the opposite. No overworld exploration, just purely dungeons.
I like the gameplay mix from old Zelda of free world and constrictive dungeons. Ironically fricking Pikmin 4 struck that balance better than TOTK
People dont review objectively. they see zelda and just soi out. Tears isnt even as good as breath of the wild, but people want to feel like theyre a part of something
