Good, Trackday atmosphere brought something fresh to the series.

This makes perfect sense. Obviously drag requires different builds than drift. This applies even to actual street racing. You can't drift with big fat drag tyres and driftbomb cars will suck at 1/4 mile as well. I wish other games also required specific setup for specific car style.
>Trackday atmosphere brought something fresh to the series.

Drift in NFS ProStreet is closer to actual drift championship than crap from Fast and Furious. If anything, previous games ruined drift because they made people think it can last for multiple laps - that's not the case. Watch some drift masters or drift formula - pic related is an example of championship track. The only issue with ProStreet drift is that you are alone on track, should be possible to see others or even get proper 1v1
Pro Street wanted to make arcade game that simulates real racing and nailed it. Drag looks like proper drag race, you do burnout, then run. You have to use drag preset car.
Drift also used tracks you would see in real Formula Drift events.
ProStreet had flaws, wobbly physics sometimes and weird mechanics with certain cars but overall it wanted to break with Fast and Furious inspired arcade and show players how actual amateur racing is like. Can't blame them for doing arcad-ish take on real racing as they almost succeed.
>Why the frick would I care about real life drifting?
They assumed that kids who grew up on UG1/2 are old enough to get own driving lic and the studio attemted to bring them some reality of track day racing weekends.
ProStreet was that attempt. Kids rejected it so we got another street racing turbd NFS Undercover, with possibly the worst handling out of all NFS games - every car had almost same handling, like boxes glued to ground where physics do not affect them in any way. No feeling of braking, no feeling of cornering. Man that was crap.

NFS undercover was fricked from the beginning when black box got split up into two smaller teams. Prostreet had plenty of issues ranging from poor physics, to inconsistent track implementation, to even just being at the event hub can cause a crash, at least on 360. Meanwhile undercover was the result of frick all cohesion which is why 2 out of the 4 tri-city areas look unfinished as frick along with the WORST goddamn A.I I've ever seen.

Speak for yourself. I fricking hate that shit and consider it the worst part of the entire Black Box era NFS. Nothing was worse than getting a car set up exactly how you like it between the choice of car itself and the tuning, and then getting shunted into a drag race with stupid slot car lane magnets that intentionally try to veer you into scripted traffic, or a drift event with totally different physics from the rest of the game that either turns your neutral handling car into an understeering pig unless you mash R1, or lets you rip hektik skids in a 100hp FWD Neon.
I'm pretty sure most AI drivers have announcer callouts for if they have a very poor race or crash out of a race. Especially noticeable in the later Nitrocide events on Ebisu and Nevada Speedway. These are also the events where the announcer will introduce the top 2 AI drivers of that event, Paulo Cruz in his Corvette ZO6, and JP Laurent in his Zonda F, with appropriate commentary if one of them demolishes their expensive cars. It also has based John Hindbaugh being the main commentator for the React Racing Sessions in the midgame and the endgame Grip Effect events, who still commentates IMSA and WEC events to this very day.

Not to mention the callouts when you use an unsuitable car, like try to drift in an old muscle car or a Porsche
See, announcer chatter details like that is why I love ProStreet. Only game that got close to the liveliness of announcer chatter in a racing game is the original GRID. A lot of people used to complain back in the day about the half a mile and quarter mile drag racing events in Prostreet, but the announcers really have a lot of lines considering what your car is, and what car is being put against it, which gives it a lot of character. If you picked that Chevelle SS as a prize car early on, it isn't uncommon to hear the commentators geeking out over it in the next few events about it being the classic drag car in a field of hot hatches and coupes. By the time you get to the final events, they will comment on and hype up if you are up against another Chevrolet, or another American muscle car, even noting if it is against another classic or one of the modern muscle cars.

This is ironic because Camaro 67 and 69 Charger are one of the best drift cars in whole game. The rest sucks but these are top contenders.
The canyons were great but let's be honest. The parking lot tracks that made up all of U/U2s drift events and half of Carbon's were by far the blandest environments of their respective games. Speed limit was because of consoles. Game had trouble to load up when car was going faster than 400km/h. However if I remember right that was hardcap for Carbon and MW as well.
The hardcopy was 240mph in the original most wanted. But carbon you can easily hit over 260mph in either the corvette or dodge viper if you put the gear ratio to top speed. But prostreets physics don't work well over 250mph.
It 's got nothing to do with consoles as once the track is loaded on 360 and PS3 at least it doesn't take long to restart the event since it's in the memory.
I mean not tracks as whole but small roadside objects like roadsigns in Autobahn or cacti in Nevada desert road. On consoles or weaker PC they failed to load up at higher speeds. Same issue happens in GTA San Andreas and is very annoying when you are flying a plane and then you hit a tree that failed to load textures.

Absolutely. The older TOCA and Race Driver games are great too, but a bit more sim than arcade. Grid 1 is like Prostreet's cousin with the handling and damage, but up one tier from 'sanctioned track days with ex street racers' to 'amateur teams working up from demolition derby to LMP endurance races,' with the same sort of focus on races that are never longer than a few laps, a surprising amount of cars on track, and dick-ass rivals you'll know when you see them. Fricking great soundtrack when it plays too, an actual dynamic OST like the PS1 NFs games. No real customization though other than colors and sponsors so you'll be disappointed if you NEED your rice. you might not like it anyway, the first time i played it just felt bad but tried it again years later and it became a favorite

you'll need
>1.1 cd/no dvd patch (battery version)
>extra options (disables speed limiter and a few other things)
>generic fix (fixes continue glitch and disables punkbuster anticheat)
>tank unslapper (removes input lag)
>basic hd quality mods (4k graphic mods if you can run them)

all mods below aren't required but I recommend using them
>extended customization

by the way, you'll need binary and nfs-vlted to run most of these, the websites I linked should have the links for those there (if you don't already have them)
also for the battery 1.1 version I can't find it, but I do have the exe patches

don't forget the DLCs with extra tracks/cars, there's also the server emulator to let you play LAN through radmin vpn or hamachi or whatever
tried it on my hacked fat ps3 and the performance was terrible and i couldn't rebind shifting from the right stick, yuck
dlc comes with the 1.1 patch and extra options
Is there any benefit to playing the console versions of ProStreet like there was for MW and Carbon?
no, if anything the console versions (especially the ps3 version) are extremely unstable compared to the pc version
Shame that you can see other kings only on PSP and not in actual proper releases.
Karol Monroe cute!
Nate has massive balls to use possibly the worst car in game. Still there are 2 options. On easy modes he just drives so slow it's not a challenge. On hard mode he's pushing his boat-goat and usally ends up crashing.
And now I know why he's the grip king. His car grips road so much it can't even turn.
>Krieger looks like a total tryhard
Does make sense given how winded up he seems when he gets to the grid for the title showdown against Cooper.
it's kind of funny that all other kings are guys, but the only girl is a drag queen
rudy chen is the true grip king
>hi hi hi it's so tiny... I m-mean your 1.6 eninge, of course
They are kings not because of their skills or cars but because Rudy Chen and JP Laurent gatekeping them so nobody can challenge Ray or Nate.
she looks at my pp
rock more
roll more

he's loving it
Too bad you can't upgrade performance of pre-set cars. I like Cooper's beatup Nissan looks but it's almost stock in terms of performance.
