From 1985 through to 2005 you had constantly evolving technology and constantly evolving video games. Everything was always new and exciting.

I never lost any passion. I still play 10-12 hours of video games every day and I am loving the indie scene, and I am really excited for the amount of cool AA games we're likely going to get soon due to AI being able to assist indie studios.
Having said that, the overall video games experience was definitely better back in the day. This is an undeniable fact.

I think this is really the worst part - not that there are people who believe that Fortnite is the peak of gaming (although that's pretty bad in itself) - but the realization that there is such a thing as a "peak of gaming", and that there is a very real possibility that gaming will only get worse.

Nah. Rockstar intentionally did this because they chase "MUH REALISM" over actual gameplay, so they add shit like momentum, excessive animations, tedious actions, etc. It has nothing to do with motion capture.
Superman 64 is universally hated trash but it still has more actual gameplay than rockstar trash
