Bosses specializing in one type was always one of the worst things about the games to me. You can beat multiple characters just hitting one Super Effective move. Cynthia became popular because children didn't know what to do against her.

I mean her FIRST Pokemon is Spiritomb which doesn't even have a weakness in Gen 4. Unless you brought some high IQ shit like Foresight Lucario or whatever, but kids aren't playing Pokemon on that level.
Kids just used their overleveled starter and a Staraptor and easily swept through her team like every other champion. There's nothing in that team that gates an overleveled starter.
You're giving kids too much credit. The amount of kids who even managed to do that pales in comparison. Shinx and Buizel I would argue ended up as staples to people's teams, so if kids used anything else (hint: they fricking did) then it meant less cumulative level so no over leveled bullshit as you insinuate.
