Unless these new writers have been holding back really damn hard the odds of that happening are slim to none. The EW patches sucked, the side content stories sucked, the new short stories sucked so hard I stopped reading them,. The only plotline worth reading in the past couple of years was Pandaemonium since that was actually pretty decent.

Tbf fair with that point, it was the community who voted which characters got short stories. And they all fricking settled on every Scion who already has half a million stories, making the writers just have to somehow come up with anything that hasn't been addressed already.
Not gonna excuse the rest though. 6.1 had a promising start to every storyline and they all just kind of fell flat as they evolved.
It can't, SHB worked because the scions were given more screen time than usual while already being embedded into the world due to time shenanigans and Emet's sassy attitude while constantly following you around. The ancients weren't a wookiepedia article at this time, so their reveal was mysterious and intriguing.
DT on the other hand has the scions front and center without any development from their SHB reintroductions and an annoying Karlach-ibspired trans puppygirl as your main companion. What would've been a big reveal with the techno city was already spoiled and it has ancient alphabet so we already know it's ancient/ascian plot device #106

In the end, FFXIV just isn't interesting as a game. This isn't a bad thing! Many people play it, and enjoy playing it. It's just not interesting. SE has a good thing going and they're not going to shake it up while it's still profitable, but every expansion is so formulaic. If you've been playing for a long time, like I have, then you've pretty much seen it all. At least other MMOs are willing to experiment, and not tell a hamfisted story of genocide that goes back on the very themes it tries to enforce every other quest. Yea pretty much 99% of the dedicated playerbase uses all of them. They've gotten really out of hand and basically no one actually plays the game anymore. It's as bad as WoW now in terms of add-ons doing everything for you.
Yes. The best raiders use cactbot, noclippy/xivalex, and auto-rotation mods. The best pvpers use noclippy/xivalex, and targeting mods that fix how terrible tab targeting is, along with mods that show when your opponents defensive are on cd. The best DD runners use trap markers and speed boosters. The best fishers use their calendar. There isn't a single piece of content in XIV that requires skill.

I never said you specifically were using cheats. My entire point was that the statement "everyone else does it" is THE why they're so pervasive now. Cheaters have guilty consciences, so they attempt to justify it by painting everyone else with the same brush as themselves. This, naturally, leads to more and more people cheating, because they keep hearing about how "everyone else is doing it anyway."

There's no such thing as cheating in XIV because actions are almost never taken against cheaters except in very niche circumstances like raid group drama leaking onto social media and online news picking up on that (only reason JP TOP WF was made an example of). Tons of TOP clears used multitude of plug-ins at that same time and none of them were punished, because they didn't make a scene despite a few being caught like the RDM mentor from The Balance.
If laws aren't enforced, then there can't be a statute for breaking terms and conditions. WF from TEA cheated, all that happened was how changing how markers work. Yoshida has no balls and knows setting boundaries would actually kill XIV because of how reliant on add-ons the playerbase is, therefore cheating is a feature and not illegal.
I will not engage with this point, because I see it for what it is.

Mandatory in the sake of completing the relic weapon, not completing Eureka. You don't have to get a single Smoldering Protean Crystal for Pyros if you want your relic complete, which absolutely isn't the case for Frosted Protean Crystals.
Launch day pagos was the way it was because anemos was new and the devs weren't sure of how the playerbase was going to tackle it. Pagos being "Anemos But Worse" isn't spiteful so much as it's just plain bad design. The reason pyros feels like a sharp course correction is because it is. If you were to go back and look at anemos relic completion vs pagos relic completion, the rates drop sharply.

Raids were meagre considering the terrible job they did balancing jobs this expac with that 2 minute meta shit, some good raids but most were boring and uninspired
PVP rework was good, could use some more frontlines maps because CC is kind of shit
Side content was non-existent, Island isn't content and Variant Dungeons are a waste of dev time, only made to appeal to WoWtards (and failing miserably at that)
Other than the aforementioned shit the QoL stuff was pretty good like plates, but I don't pay a monthly sub fee to just customize a business card

Tradition pretty much. Expert roulette's always been the three most recent dungeons (I think Hells' Kier was in the rotation in Stormblood, so also the lead-in dungeon for the trials series?) but now that Hard remix dungeons don't exist and the past two expacs didn't have a dungeon leading into trials, it's two dungeons. It probably should be all level-cap dungeons in Expert roulette just for variety's sake, Lv. 90 Roulette's rewards get folded into Expert, and then all those dungeons enter Lv. 90 Roulette when Dawntrail hits.
A dungeon is a dungeon. Variant dungeons are literally just a normal dungeon with 2 different routes, who fricking cares. They are a waste of time.
Variant dungeons are a blind puzzle experience where you get snippets of lore through journal entries, you examine the environment, and figure out how to get to the secret 12th route. If you didn't play it blind, you didn't experience the content.

Literally anything, I don't even give a shit about raids that much. I'd just rather have some actually new interesting content, maybe something similar to Ocean Fishing but with crafters, smaller scale things like that that the devs could do if they didnt waste time on dungeons.

Neat sets of mechanics they'd normally reserve for ults. Not saying they're ult difficulty, but they certainly experimented much harder in criterion than any savage raid from SHB or EW. It's genuinely a good experience, and the savage version really shows who gets carried in ults and who can actually stay consistent
FF14 can only fall after the climax that was EW. This was the conclusion to a story 10 years in the making. Impossible to keep the hype up after that. What is done is done.
Now they have to rebuild everything right from the ground up with a brand new story arc. Not sure if they will pull it off but that atleast seems to be the goal.
Hype for Dawntrail is moderate - There are some nice QoL changes coming and there seems to be a decent amount of content in the new expansion with new combat zones, yet another deep dungeon, beastmaster and more but the thing is still just far far away.

Agree. But i wish they would truly commit to it and retire the scions for good. They all had their big story arcs for the most parts - Keeping them around is just pointless fanservice and it kills the storytelling potential that exists there.

I think they are handling it correctly though, give more of the spotlight to the more sidelined characters like Krile, As well as the DT poster showing a lot of new faces.
The one thing I do not want is Emet and Zenos. Great characters but their arcs are long over.

i think the most plausible power level we could get would be something around Eden's power level. though if solution 9 and all that is in fact an enclave from the 12th led by a sundered Altima that kinda feels like they're retreading Eden. it also feels a bit FF16ish.

guildhests should be adapted into the hall of the novice. they'd be perfect for the trust AIs as they still teach some valuable lessons like demonstrating status debuffs, tank kiting, non combat objectives. the morbol one is great and i wish there were more dungeons that had mobs that punish you for mindlessly killing them
The concept of guildhests is good, but the fact that they're all destroyed by scaling except for 1 or 2 annoying ones, and that my main interaction with them is queueing mentor rolo and being sucked into someone's commendation farm, means that they're a total failure of content right now. Hall of the novice needs a re-do too, so remaking both things into a new tutorial series would be really good. Teach new players about enmity, pulling big, rotating mits, burst windows, GCD uptime, healer DPS, debuffs, cast bars, etc.
