Can you really call yourself a debut indie game if you’ve already designed other indie games?

Same devs, different studio. It still isn't their debut, because it isn't their first game. That's what "debut" means. Death Stranding isn't Kojima's debut game just because he made it under Kojima Productions instead of Konami.

People have been saying that TGA is horseshit, dude. This has been talked about for years.
    >BG3 won best multiplayer game when it isn't a multiplayer game, it's a single player game with an optional co-op component (which most people say is poorly implemented). The game only won because it's popular and has a multiplayer component, not because it was a multiplayer game that had good online.
IT's rigged/bias and absolutely everyone knows it.
    >non-indie games got nominated for best indie game
    >games that aren't functionally RPG's got nominated for best RPG
    >person got nominated for best performance only because the jury needed to fill a quota for women, not because she did a good job (she was the worst VA in the game)
    >game that wasn't the developer's debut game got nominated for best debut "indie" (it also isn't an indie game)
TGA's was always dogshit that holds no value. More people are just starting to wake up to it now.

You forgot one, one of the guys nominated for best eSports coach said he has barely coached all year and shouldn't have been nominated.
Between that and them giving sonicfox an award a few years back not realising the mockery he would inevitably make of the event they must have the regular judges do the eSports shit as well instead of people who actually know things about esports

The weird one here is Baldur's Gate 3 came out in 2020.

            Anonymous

Early access is where this becomes an issue. Do you have it take part when it's first available or when the game receives it's "full release" update? It's debatable. On one hand, it came out three years ago. On another, it wasn't really "finished" until now. It still isn't really finished, but that's not the point.

              Anonymous

It isn't an issue, the game came out in 2020. It simply shouldn't have been in this year's choices as it wasn't a valid participant.
              It wasn't released this year.

                Anonymous

I agree, but that's the issue. People will debate about this. It """finished""" this year, so some people will say it counts for this year even though it didn't release this year. The validity of the nominations is piss poor, anyway. a game that fully released in 2018 got nominated for the 2020 game awards because it got a popularity boost in 2020 and nothing else.

                Anonymous

There is no debate, the game didn't release this year. The VGAs were wrong, everyone would agree.
Most people simply don't know that BG3 is 3 years old already, that is the only part of this that complicates it. Once you know you know and a 3 year old game shouldn't be in the running for anything in a yearly event.

The beta came out in 2020. Not the full game sorry moron. You might want it to be this way, but if it was actually that way, BG3 wouldn't have won this year.

The game launched in 2020. It wasn't finished until 2023. That's what "early access" means. The only one coping here is the guy trying to say an early access launch is literally a beta test.

I'd like to know your thoughts on it since you're the one I'm arguing with, anon. You seem to believe that the game released in 2020 instead of 2023, I'm wondering if you know whether or not the full game was released at that time in 2020. You say it wasn't "finished" but you seem to have so much trouble answering this simple question, almost dishonestly so.

You say that BG3 released in 2020, just as a general statement, which is a bit misleading and something a moron might say. You later admit begrudgingly that that it wasn't "finished" until 2023 but that can mean a few different things.
Could you be a bit more clear and honest instead of being disingenuous and jut admit that the full game was NOT released in 2020, and was only actually released in 2023? I know it makes your earlier statements seem stupid, but in all honesty they were stupid.

You keep asking a question that you legitimately already got the answer to. I would just go tell you go go look up the definition of early-access on steam but I doubt you would even be able to find that.

Not having a Publisher PERIOD is what makes an indie game Indie.

      Anonymous

Dave the Diver was developed by Nexon, it wasn't just published by them. Also just not having a publisher isn't the only thing that matters, there's other elements like size, investors, funding, distribution, etc. The classic definition of indie is what everyone should focus on using.

        Anonymous

Sort of like how trying to imply BG3 is Indie despite having tons of investment and directly outsourcing making the team 400ish in size, arguably making it larger than the Witcher.

No it solely involves having a publisher or not. indie is short for independent from publisher.

Indie is short for independent GAME. A game in which it's development and IP is not tied to big corporate.

Independent studioso can get hired to work for a big corporate which found the studios and development of the game sometimes with tons of budget. And because of this, the GAME is not an indie just because it's made by an independent developer.

Releasing your game on Steam makes it a not-independent game as you are depending on Valve as a storefront.

This is funny because people have convinced themselves that it's legitimate, unlike the Oscars. The only reason people reached that conclusion was because of the "frick the Oscars" moment. Yet Geoff wants this to basically just be the Oscars for video games.
