Movement.
It's not noticeable but that thing is moving ever so slightly.
When you sit it down it pushed up and down until finally it gets loose.
The plugging and unplugging does it too.
same on pc, even with the ps4 i had to use a power bank to keep that shit charged for long ass neet play sessions.
[...]
The main problem with keeping it plugged in is the micro USB port ends up getting worn out and looser than a Hooker at Mardi Gras.
I straight up can't keep it connected to the pc with the micro, any movement I make and it disconnects leading to the controller turning on and off constantly, it is infuriating. And my micro-usb is new and in good shape too, which makes it even more baffling. I haven't actually tested this myself yet, but I think it might actually be better to have it plugged into just a straight up power outlet as opposed to your pc, because that way you're still using the bluetooth so it losing connection with the wire for a literal microsecond won't result in disconnect/connect
never had this issue with my dualshock 3 and mini-usb. I fricking despise micro-usb so much.
My DS3 had that issue and they had that soldered in.
At least with DS4 is a screw holding it in place and a strip wire.
But it's a common issue with anything microUSB also the cords can get fricky and decide to not work with just one device or not at all.
The port under the controller can be used for charging but there are few cords for it but it's meant for charging bays.
cracking open the PS4 controller's shell is one of the most harrowing repair tasks i've faced.
I've had laptops with waterproofing shit just fall apart when the screws were taken out, why the frick does my controller need to grasp itself this tight
You have to be patient with it and know how to get it started.
Took me an hour of careful prying but now that I did it once it's easier each time. But yeah if anyone does open one be very delicate with it. You crack plastic you're fricked.
It took that long because it was my first time and I was pausing and playing a video while looking for replacement batteries.
I'm sure it's faster for someone more brave and not having a meltdown.
>took me an hour of careful prying >actually no i meant 15 mins of careful prying and 45 mins of fricking around online
forgive me for refusing to further interact with you. I lack the mental fortitude to deal with this shit today.

I have Frieza sense of time and may have exaggerated
The solution is to get a really solid top-shelf braided cable and never ever unplug the controller. I bought my DS5 around the launch of PS5 and it's still operational and never disconnects
>I fricking despise micro-usb so much.
got my kid their first phone, specs seemed fine, didn't get why it was so fricking cheap >micro-usb with no wireless charging
ah, there it is. frick.
Just buy a 2000mah battery and install it yourself.
Had issues with my old DS4 ended up buying a battery and a charging bay thinking my micro USB was fricked. Turns out the cord I was using just stopped working with it.
Considering I haven't had to charge the new battery in days it was a good purchase.
Yeah, I'll never use the DS5 but the DS4 is the worst pad I've used, chinese knockoffs included. The battery life is atrocious, the speaker is one of the worst I've ever heard, why does any game use it because they're worse for it, the tiychpad is useless and unwarranted, and the fricking lights?
It's a DS3 with a bunch of cheap shite added in for no reason
The frick uses the speaker on the controller?
I love the DS4 because it's closer to the old PS2 and DS3.
The DS5 looks like shit and I can imagine it feels like shit in the hand.
>I can imagine it feels like shit in the hand.
the ergonomics are legitimately the best of any controller i've ever used. that's the one part of the controller they completely nailed, they better never make a smaller controller ever again.
>best of any controller you've ever used
the DS4 gives me fricking hand-cramps when I go back to using it after a period of not using it, in favor of my Switch Pro controller or Series X controller, symmetric bottom joysticks is a cancer on the hands, and I can't stand it.
yeah the ds4 was too small, i'd never go back to using it again after the dualsense. the dualsense feels much better because it's designed for larger hands, i have piano fingers and it feels perfect.
The ds5 is by far the best feeling controller in the hand for long period of game play. Your hand can hold onto it without any fingers overlapping each other and there isnt any sharp edges or bulges that start to dig into you.

I might buy a dualsense next, been using the dualshock 4 now for 3 years for my pc and I love it but eventually I'll need to upgrade cause the battery keeps getting worse.
Li-ion batteries have an average lifespan of about 2 years. For something that's so temporary, companies sure love sealing that shit in with solder and glue, practically forcing you to buy a whole new $100+ controller every time your $50 battery dies.
The PS4 isn't soldered or glued.
You literally can plug in a replacement and have a longer battery life for like 15 bucks.

I've had laptops with waterproofing shit just fall apart when the screws were taken out, why the frick does my controller need to grasp itself this tight
What are you asking for, capacity or lifespan?
Capacity, I have no idea why the frick it doesn't last as long as even the old Wii Pro Controller let alone the Switch Pro Controller since those things can last days without a charge
Lifespan though, you can't do anything about Li-ion that's just how they work
>friend games with his PC tower so close it's bumping his elbow >refuses to use anything but wireless mouse, keyboard, etc. >constantly have to accommodate his constant panic when something loses connection or dies >he dares make fun of me for using a wired controller
some people just want to suffer, i guess
Have to add in a bunch of gimmick lighting shit and touchpad and memetriggers so of course it will tank battery life, but even then if you don't use that shit the controllers still last like 6 hours tops since they put in chinesium batteries kek
>snoy fanboys cry about xbros having batteries >snoy fanboys then proceed to cry their controllers batteries are dying too fast and they can't replace them
lmao you can't make this shit up
Lasts how long? I charge my controller every night and I can get 8 hours without needing to plug it back in. You can either change the battery or get a second controller to use while the first one recharges.
8 hours is the average
Maybe that changed depending on which batch/version of the controller you have. But the standard battery is 1000mah.
I think older version used a different connection than the one I got 2 years ago. And my nephew got DS4 and it looks totally different than mine.
Won't open his to not void the warranty.
>Sony controller lasts just a few hours >meanwhile I can emulate PSP games on my Sony phone for 10 hours and still have battery left
Do they just use garbage-tier batteries in DualShocks or what the frick is the problem?
Sony's moronic is why, they REALLY needed to play up the nostalgia angle on the system itself with how hard Astro's Playroom panders to the PS1 aesthetic.
Just plug your controller when you're done playing and you'll never run out of battery.
It's not like you have to buy a new battery everytime your battery is low.
>nooo I need to play 96 hours every day!
Just put the fricker in the charging dock when you're done with it, it even has 2 controller slots if can't go 5 minutes without playing games.
i keep my controller plugged
same on pc, even with the ps4 i had to use a power bank to keep that shit charged for long ass neet play sessions.

How? I never had any of my stuff get worn out
Movement.

It's not the port on the controller, it's the pins on the micro usb

an hour to take apart a plastic shell without breaking it is barbaric and just as bad as any other form of locking a battery in place
It took that long because it was my first time and I was pausing and playing a video while looking for replacement batteries.
I'm sure it's faster for someone more brave and not having a meltdown.

I like it, feels nice and weighty when I hold it

I'm the complete opposite. I prefer the DS4 and whenever I switch to the xbox controller I get hand cramps and I don't like asymmetrical sticks
I'm old and refuse to change
I like the DS4
I agree, i only switched because of the usbc port.

I'm the anon that replaced his battery.
I'd rather do that than spend extra for a PS5 controller I don't like.
But to each their own.
I just had a problem with my controller after years of using it but I just keep it plugged in and have no problems
Li-ion batteries have an average lifespan of about 2 years. For something that's so temporary, companies sure love sealing that shit in with solder and glue, practically forcing you to buy a whole new $100+ controller every time your $50 battery dies.
What happened to just using 2x AA batteries?
xbox does it right at least
just bought a new controller yesterday and dont have to worry about this shit since i have rechargeable aas
The PS4 isn't soldered or glued.
You literally can plug in a replacement and have a longer battery life for like 15 bucks.

What's the consensus on the Switch Pro
The whole thumb stick and dpad being swapped thing irks me and it feels small
I would like it but the sticks wear out really fast. I had Pro controllers with massive drift straight out of the box. Would not recommend.
Battery life is really great, but the quality control on the sticks is not. Left one lasted about 8 months for me.
>snoy fanboys cry about xbros having batteries

What the frick are you talking about anon
Frick Sony I just like the controller

Do they just use garbage-tier batteries in DualShocks or what the frick is the problem?
My Dualshock lasts about 10 hours, but it's connected to a PC and I have the light shut off via Steam's settings.
The battery is tiny in them too
why doesn't sony sell this? I would have bought it in a heartbeat
Sony's moronic is why, they REALLY needed to play up the nostalgia angle on the system itself with how hard Astro's Playroom panders to the PS1 aesthetic.
Not sure. They sold the 500 million sales controller separately.
If you just want aesthetics you can buy controller casing and buttons build a custom one
there's a for-parts aninversary dualshock 4 up on ebay, buy it for $35 and dump the guts for a working DS4 into it
Just plug your controller when you're done playing and you'll never run out of battery.
It's not like you have to buy a new battery everytime your battery is low.
