IX was the last FF game
No, it was XII
XII was in my opinion the big move to entirely-western gaming. It has a lot of good points to it, but overall I'd have to argue that FFX was the last good one.
>*Lost Odyssey was
It's in the top 5 FFs, but it could be the best if there weren't so much filler. It's excruciatingly padded, the side quests are dogshit, and the sheer amount of useless dialogue is atrocious. You can smell the FF14 writing team through the screen.
A part from the sidequest, there werent any filler
Yes the frick there were. Before you fight Hugo there's a frickton of it in the desert, solving useless problems that add nothing of value to the story. It happens again with the merchant pass shit before Bahamut. Doing the engine shit for Mid. It happens a frickton throughout the game. It's literally the worst part of the game. Instead of worldbuilding you just frick off from the story to experience 5,000 lines of useless dialogue and non-exposition mmo fetch quest garbage
I did
I liked it, hope some of you get to enjoy it when it comes to PC. I don't get the hate.

>MMO-troons still trying to shill this slop
Grim.
I mean, you can say the whole "gambit" system was somehow pretty genius... but you can't also deny XII has one of the most insipid story ever. Not to talk about Vaan and her cameltoe friend
The story is pretty good despite being rushed towards the end, what's not to get? You have two morally grey parties clashing over mcguffins and ending up on the opposite sides they started. Ashe gives up on revenge and using Raithwall's legacy as a power chip while Vayne keeps bloodying hands to bring peace and just rule because of the spook ghost.
>"I WANT TO BE A QUEEN OF MY OWN EMPIRE BECAUSE MUH ANCESTORS WERE KINGS AND QUEENS!"
>disturbs the peace in every possible way
Ashe is the first leading black female in a FF, and the least-likeable character to me.
She wants to govern her own people and not lick imperial boots, especially since her newly-wed lover fricking dies fighting them. Then over the journey she realizes her ancestry were pawns to Occuria and this gives her new perspective on everything. Her character arc isn't original but I don't see how anyone could hate her
They're not her people. Her bloodline's empire was ended in ancient times. She was trying to "re-activate it" by marrying that Rabanastre prince in the beginning, but Archades ended that plan. So she sought nethicite relics to "re-activate" her lost royal lineage.
When that doesn't work. She rounds up a gang of scroungers, sky pirates, and a disgraced soldier who's butthole brother ruined his name to kick the crap out of Archades.
The combat sucks, the charzcters sucks, the mysic sucks, the story sucks, the sidequests sucks, the graphics sucks
Everything about this game sucks
I don't play FF for Japanese Game of Thrones, sorry.
>since FFX
FFX fricking sucked though. X-2 was better.
X-2 was "teens need to be in charge of the world because everyone else is stupid" set to J-pop music and three kawaii girls on a teen adventure to unravel a mystery. Since they liked Lulu but she's an old woman in her 20s, they arbitrarily declared her as preggers with Wakka's baby out of fricking nowhere, and replaced her with Payne.
It was basically Squeenix deciding that their 90s fan base had gotten too old, so it was time to pander to a new "current" young demographic. So their MO was to throw out all the old-guard who made the previous FF games, and bring in new people who'll pander to a new audience. The end result is X-2 probably had no one who had worked in the previous ten games involved pandering to a new base of customers.
I bought it the day it came out but dropped it around the village where you set off with the woman and you have to repair a bridge to move on.
The character designs were good but the game was just kind of shit, the combat was boring and all the side quests were mmo tier garbage.
homosexual sloppa
no thanks
XIII wasn't as bad as everyone made it out to be. It's ok
how about XIII-2 and XIII-3?
now that is pure shit
I don't like XIII-2 and XIII-3 because it had all the development from the cast of XIII I actually grew to like after hating suddenly ripped away to focus on some angsty pretty boy from the future and wanking a a cardboard cut out of lightning.
Lightning Returns is fricking great.
NO PC NO BUY

>The last real Final Fantasy game we got was lost odyssey. You can feel that that games spirit is very similar to FFIV.
Can't agree more... except for the final boss...
Still waiting from a PC release after 10 years
>no pc port
it deserves to flop
Truly a numbskulled decision to make it more like western fantasy and then NOT market it as SE's answer to The Witcher and Skyrim and release it on PC day one.
They threw away all that made Final Fantasy unique, without actually gaining the wider appeal they were going for.
Nah it just needed more meat to its bones. You run into the issue where you have seen everything the game has to offer mechanically after 20 hours and then you are hit with enemies being ridiculously easy and several pacing killers and it just becomes a chore to play
It needed more content, there should have been more actual exploration, more involved game mechanics, etc. It put all the effort and resources into dialogs and making sure it was voiced when it should have gone into gameplay
It was still not a bad game tho and i think it will be better appreciated in the future like 12. But as a game that was meant to bring FF back to the premier league, it failed in its mission objective. 7 rebirth ironically seems to be more that kind of game
Yes, all of that would have made it a better game, sure, but I'm talking more marketing-wise.
Elden Ring did it by being multiplat and associating itself with Game of Thrones, and it became HUGE with normalgays, made a killing in sales, and snagged a GOTY.
Why can't Final Fantasy? They have more resources than FROM and Bandai, they could have pulled it off.
It needed less "meat". Cut out the Mid ship parts, cut out the trader pass sections and the game's pacing is so much better.
It needed, besides fixing the pacing, more depth to its combat. 1 weapon and the same basic combo whole fricking game. If you got Cid's dual swords the game would have so much extra depth. They also fricked up by making Triangle a wimpy magic cast that only serves purpose to do a lame X/Y/X/Y combo or charge for launcher
The only people who liked it were women.
Based Lost Odyssey chad. It even had Palom/Porom expies in Mack and Cooke.
I liked it. I've gotten used to CBU3's storytelling method where they have hours of cutscenes strung together, so the quest system doesn't bother me as much as it does for other people.
The biggest things that I don't like are the ending, the shift to a shonen story in the latter half, and the lack of good side content. The game has like 30 hunts when it needed 80 and there should've been side dungeons. Make it more like XII.
There;s something very gay about this game. Is it the pretty boy faces? The poses? The hairstyles? Not sure, probably all of it. But theres some very “I like dick up my ass” vibes.
There's literally a gay love story
The game was literally banned in Saudi Arabia for this
funny how this didnt bother me at all. black fatigue makes anything else seem less bothersome
'fraid Final Fantasy as been gay since FF12. That's coincidentally when I stopped playing.
You mean 7 when you're forced to play as a 5'6" twink who crossdresses
i'll take 10 minutes of crossdressing over 40 hours of controlling a shirtless gaylooking fruit any day.
I liked it.
I liked it and am interested to see what The Leviathan DLC is all about. I honestly liked it better than FF7 Remake and thought the combat was way better but I know that's a highly controversial opinion that isn't allowed here.
I liked it 🙁
Outside of 10 second scene the game was super based and Clive was a Chad
After the failure that was ff16, square will likely go the capcom/resident evil route. The mainline new games will become an afterthought while the remakes of the classics will become the main event. After VII they will remake X since it has the most nostalgia for it. IX remake will just be something like crisis core reunion, not exactly a remake but not a remaster either
Vaan should have end with Ashe
cause of console exclusivity on a console not that many people own yet. And yes, I know getting your hands on a PS5 is not hard these days, but 1 game is not enough to buy a whole-ass console. Especially if that game might be coming to PC at some point.
I liked it. It was fun.
I liked it
Release it on something else then dead trash console
The PS5 has a user base of 48 million people at this point
Problem is I think very few bought it for Japanese games
>put it on a console no one has
>"wooooooooooooooow why didn't anyone play it" - square enix
what is their master plan here
