Never said there was anything wrong with PALbros! Just was wondering if there was a correlation between thinking Turrican is better than Gunstar Heroes and being a PAL resident.
OK, after seeing enough shitflinging about this game, I decided to play it with an open mind, and give the most unbiased view.
Good: graphics, amount of crap on screen, sheer fun and "wow" moments of a pure 90s arcade style game. Interesting idea of combining weapons. Memorable bosses. Nice setting I guess.
Bad:
—Fixed vs Free mode. even Alien Soldier controls better.
—level design is nearly non-existent. bunch of enemies from left, bunch of enemies from right, add level gimmick, rinse wash repeat. I've seen a similar thing in Astro Boy, but it does get better in this as you progress.
—the game overall just feels shallow. it's fun in a sense "omg look at all the things on the screen going boom" or "wow, a boss that transforms 7 times".
—in the first level, you don't even need to kill anything but bosses. I don't get it.
—aiming shot is just the game playing itself.
—weirdly divided abilities between fixed and free mode. way less than in GBA version. throwing enemies seems either inconvenient or pointless. body toss feels OP.
—a few weapons just feel dumb / near useless.
—Dice Palace.
All in all, it's a very arcade-style game, for better or for worse.
>—aiming shot is just the game playing itself.
Most of these are fair however aiming shot drops harshly in viability if you are playing on the harder difficulties because it is very low damage. Homing/fire is still viable but it requires you to manually aim anyway. On Easy/Normal however aiming/laser will play the whole game for you.
>Most of these are fair however aiming shot drops harshly in viability if you are playing on the harder difficulties because it is very low damage.
ok, I'll agree with you then. yes, I noticed it wasn't quite high damage. but on regular difficulty it just cleared rooms full of enemies for you. which was a bit of an overkill since the only remotely challenging part in early game was shooting enemies.
>in the first level, you don't even need to kill anything but bosses. I don't get it.
You can do the same for Contra, as well as Metal Slug, with the exception of the blockades and helicopter. Most run n guns let you just bypass enemies if you want.
there's a difference between "you can go without killing but you'll need to dodge every single enemy / bullet" and "you can simply hold right and run through all enemies"
>best game on Genesis
Yes yes well done Gunstar Heroes well done... HOWEVER. >Monster World 4 >Ristar >Hardcorps >S3&K >TF IV >Shining Force 1&2 >PSIV >Bloodlines
Although a gud game as you can see Gunstar Heroes is the not the best game on the Genesis and I'm probably forgetting a couple that belong on this list as well.
It's good but then you get to the board game level. It's definitely a favorite of posers too afraid to play games like battle mania daiginjou or ranger x.
It's okay but really overrated. The flaws become apparent on higher difficulties (most players just mindlessly brute force their way through on normal), and the shmup section is legitimately one of the worst sections in all of gaming.
Cuphead is closest to Contra Hard Corps if anything, and as much as I love Hard Corps (beat it no damage with Ray), Cuphead is definitely the better game. Boss design is miles better in terms of theming, animation, design, attack patterns and variation, challenge, and overall movement/control. The average boss in Cuphead is about as good as the absolute best boss in Metal Slug or Contra.
>Is Contra Hardcorps, followed by Bloodlines
Nintendrone spotted. Good games but not the best Genesis has to offer. I'm not as into Gunstar as others but it's definitely better than Bloodlines. Contra is great but if you just said Contra I wouldn't have called you Nintendorone but both of those together are damning evidence.
>nintendrone spotted
Not him but I grew up a segachad >Good games but not the best Genesis has to offer
Like everything it's personal preference but I would bet money 90%+ would put hardcorps and bloodlines in the top ten range. >not better than gunstar
I disagree but hey that's what this fun :^)
>Best 16 bits Contra game by far, one of the greatest arcade action games of the generation. >Strong contender for the title of best 16 bits Castlevania game, one of the greatest action platformers of the generation. >Pfft
And people obsessed with console wars that doesn't like video games, but specific brands, will certainly refuse to take consoles like the Genesis seriously. Their loss.
is castlevania bloodlines
boring gay video games
But enough about your favorite games
I think that 2D is not enough, platformers are also the worst genre ever I fricking hate jumping on platforms, it's boring plus I'm bad at it
If you dont like it, why actively hate it? Oh yea, i forgot, im on autism site
Strider Hiryuu.
It's somewhere on the platform's top 5 games for me, I love replaying it. I prefer using double fire.
Mega Turrican mogs this
Are you by chance from a PAL region?
Ouch. While I am not a Turrican fan there is nothing wrong with Pal regions.
It's Rocket Knight Adventures.
PAL regions had some of the worst retro games in general.
Never said there was anything wrong with PALbros! Just was wondering if there was a correlation between thinking Turrican is better than Gunstar Heroes and being a PAL resident.
holy mother of cope
Definitely one of them.
the best game on GBA
unfinished garbage
Replay this until Dice Palace, but it’s such a chore as is the Shoot ’em Up bit that follows.
I can't beat golden silver on highest difficulty
Fire and lightning best combo.
Fine choice

Dynamite Headdy's better and more focused.
It's good but then you get to the board game level. It's definitely a favorite of posers too afraid to play games like battle mania daiginjou or ranger x.
Cuphead has board game level and nobody complains about that
>PAL regions had some of the worst retro games in general.
Watch your mouth or I may have to shut it.
?si=Sp-ckdOLORrf_F9h
I never played cuphead because it didn't really interest me, and I probably will not because every game I play is from before 2010
Cuphead looks good but its just a crap contra and metal slug. You didn't play Sonic Mania?
I did play sonic mania, it was OK, should have been all new levels instead of majority remakes
It's okay but really overrated. The flaws become apparent on higher difficulties (most players just mindlessly brute force their way through on normal), and the shmup section is legitimately one of the worst sections in all of gaming.

The dumb ass melee/bounce mechanic thing is really shitty cuphead. I also dislike you cant play coop on the non boss stages.
I now await my comment to be deleted for daring to talk about something not retro.
It's a good mechanic, but the timing and hitbox takes some getting used to. It feels much better on PC due to substantially less input lag though.
People filtered by Dice Palace never figured out the die's maximum roll is 3
Dice Palace's issue is the change of pace, not the rolling itself. It's like 50% rolling, 25% transformations and 25% gameplay.
Is Contra Hardcorps, followed by Bloodlines. Gunstar is fine, but Headdy, like the other anon mentioned, while not being the best, surpasses it.

Fun thing is I never owned a Nintendo console
Which is proof that console warriors (or brand warriors) on here actually have one or more mental illnesses.
Those are Konami games lol
They're not even the best Konami games on Genesis lol
>Is Contra Hardcorps, followed by Bloodlines.
pfft
if that's the best Genesis has to offer, no wonder it isn't taken seriously
I've always argued that the SNES had more God tier games but the Genesis had an overall deeper library of good games.
To me they are, there's plenty of good games and choosing faves is hard.

frick off gay, bloodlines is a masterpiece. and yes, super IV and rondo are also great games, no console warring here
my favorite genesis game is Strider. the pce port unfortunately pales in comparison despite the extras
