Probably to aesthetically fit the American model 2 console better. The model 1 has a black/gray/red motif while the 2 is just black/gray. Same thing with the 6-button controllers
Can't remember what it was called but I had a genesis controller that didn't have the dpad par se but a 8 way red touchpad and button under the start button that let you program key combinations to any of the 6 buttons. I hated this controller for games like Sonic or other platformers because of the dpad but loved it for fighting games because I could do complicated moves or fatalities with a single button press. It was shit for Street Fighter 2 Turbo though since the moves were more press and hold back for 2 seconds then press forward kick. That was beyond the controller.
I actually really like the offset start button on here, feels really natural from where the thumb is already oriented. Plus the raised shape and rubbery texture are just the right amount of satisfying to press.
Best combination is the OG Genesis with the six button controller. Slimmer models have sound board issues, three button controllers are dumb with stiffer d-pads.
This is the correct answer. Was stuck with the six button a while for emulation but I finally got the three button Switch controller last year and it's perfect, especially for SEGA CD. I grew up with the 3-button, very odd to me that it took so long for them to finally bring it back.
I bought Retro-Bit's normal Six-Button and found that I can't use certain button combinations like A+Start because of controller macros that can't be disabled. I assume the Big Six is the same.
>being too much of a cheap Black person company to just add sufficient buttons for extra features like a normal third party trash controller and instead adding homosexual combos that interfere with gameplay is a "feature"
Embarrassing, and doubly embarrassing on the ones they do add extra buttons for but still use the start button for macros
I like the Big 6. The D-pad is raised up just a little higher to have larger pivoting action. Sega were fools to abandon this design and even moreso that it wasn't carried over for the Saturn.
Okay so I bought a broken 3 button controller and moved the membranes and dpad over to the switch wireless one. The switch one was just fricking loud. The dpad had a metal ball in the middle. I noticed it does give in the center at all. My other 3 button controller does have a little give in the middle. It sounds like the metal one is just durable as frick and the other one is probably just worn down?
I simp for the three button, I've got both and the three button just seems to be my stable in my hand. I can rock the 6 button quite a bit when playing.
>i dont know. i never used one. but according to a youtube i watched basically the same with some shitty shoulder buttons and a flatter back that feels not as good as the Genesis 6 button.
The 3D pad’s d-pad isn’t good for fighting games but works elsewhere and the other two non-3D pads are very responsive for when you don’t need full 3D controls like playing SoTN, Metal Slug, Contra, etc.
I’ve had mine since the mid 90s and still use them in Linux with raphnet USB adapters.
Otherwise, I gotta use the PS2 controller if a game calls for full 3D controls (like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, & Sleeping Dogs) but the d-pad on the ps2 is also bogus compared to the Saturn controllers’ d-pads which feel and respond better.
TLDR; Saturn controllers feel and respond great
>I can’t comment on Sega Genesis controllers right now cuz I don’t have any adapters for them but I remember them being good too
The convex buttons and the smaller form factor of the 6 button are better, and we don't have to ask what if it had a good d-pad, because it actually has one.
I have an SN30 pro that causes a lot of deaths in classic mega man because the dpad is way too sensitive to the diagonal inputs, and I slide off into pits instead of jumping. Other than that, I like it.
White arrow pad is the best Genesis pad, everyone knows this.
I like the 6 button, this one felt a little weird in my hand
I wonder why they removed the red lettering on the buttons.
Very garish and clashing.
Red on black is a Chad thing, you wouldn’t understand.
An edge thing for sure.
GG

3 button is god tier. I generally prefer Nintendo style D-Pads but this is the exception.
If you insist on sucking, you might as well use the Sega Genesis controller with six buttons and the Start button in the proper spot.
6 button was made for tiny asian girl hands
So was my dick but you don't see me complaining.
You just did
He actually didn't.
Honeybee made a version of the 6-button pad which is the proper size.
I actually really like the offset start button on here, feels really natural from where the thumb is already oriented. Plus the raised shape and rubbery texture are just the right amount of satisfying to press.

cool story brolet

ugly
But enough about your reflection.
Low hanging fruit
I know it's the original, but the red paint is so out of place
I hear good things about the new Big Six.
I bought Retro-Bit's normal Six-Button and found that I can't use certain button combinations like A+Start because of controller macros that can't be disabled. I assume the Big Six is the same.
That's a feature, what would you use that combo for otherwise?

Certain codes like the Sonic 1 stage select.
>what would you use A+Start for?
Pressing A+Start
Are you ok?

So true
It's the og controller though, anyone who had a Genesis back in the days had the 3-button controller
Forgot to add greentext arrows, it's too early lol
Looks fugly, bet it plays ugly.
Is it normal for the 3 button dpad to not push down in the middle at all?

How do saturn dpads compare to genesis?
Basically the same with some shitty shoulder buttons and a flatter back that feels not as good as the Genesis 6 button.

How's the 8bitdo M30? I've never owned a controller that wasn't official.
H8shitpoo
Are they really that bad?

That's not the turbo touch.
