It's not a game, but i do love it too. Found it through Steam250 a year or so and it's been pretty fun to follow along. Kind of has that feeling of a Goosebumps story, but takes it to some really dark places sometimes.
Like in the latest chapter there's a character who you can find tied up to a meat grinder and your friend accidentally turns it on while trying to save her so you're forced to button mash in an attempt to pull her out only ending up with her hair pony tail left in your hands
More often than not, it's not that edgy (which I personally appreciate since it feels more impactful), but the latest chapter goes off the wall towards the end of it.
The meat grinder section is wonderfully fricked up.

Between the perception frickery, shapeshifters running around, and the main character being crazy I'm not sure of anything either. Oddly the animal kids seemed genuinely terrified of the Black Garage and the inhuman 'adult' that owns it. I kind of wonder if the eldritch versions of them are just a product of that place. Whatever the Black Garage is it seems to frick with reality bad. I think the main character's mother was one of the two survivors and that's why he is crazy, he inherited the infection from that place

I thought so too, but if you reject the candy at the end and they all begin to threaten to eat you, she's the only one who doesn't join along then goes out of her way to try and protect you and begs you to do what they ask to survive.
So yeah, you were being played, but I think at some point she legitimately does start to like you enough to at least not want you to die. If anything, the next chapter will probably have a route where you can work with her to kill them all off.
If you choose to take the 'candy' though, then she very much has the opposite reaction. So it really does depend on what you do.
Suppose it becomes a matter of respect that you stood in the face of creatures like that and rejected their demands. I'm betting she was also hesitant at first about eating the candy but was too afraid to stand up to them and immediately gave in so maybe she's hopeful that you can do something about it.
She seems to be the only one that retains enough humanity to not immediately scare people away it seems

The best Horror Game you've never heard of is Visage. It's, to this day, the only PT inspired game that I would argue succeeded in what it set out to do.
Visage is really good. Manages to keep you on your toes far longer than most games of its type do.

The creator takes a lot of inspiration from Western media of the 90's and I don't think they're the type to concern themselves with nationalism. I personally haven't felt any cultural dissonance since there's usually a short explanation when referencing Slavic media and culture.
