The biggest difference between EarthBound and Mother 3 is the former posseses a degree of subtlety and restraint, while the latter lacks it.
Mother 3's story beats and themes are ultimately nothing special. It gets paraded around as the "saddest game ever" when beloved character deaths are a staple of most stories, with far more impactful delivery elsewhere. If you want a jrpg that has a main character who deals with the death of a parent early on, entering adolescence in a changing world and facing even more grief, look no further than Dragon Quest V which preceded it by over a decade.
Mother 3 undermines itself at times too; Chapter 1's "good news bad news" delivery is so cheesy it's downright laughable. Yes I know the argument that the people of Tazmily haven't really known grief (a point the game can't let you figure out for yourself; the chapter credits scrolling text always tells you exactly how the characters and you should be feeling), but even then it doesn't make sense because people have surely died of sickness or old age before (e.g. Scamp) and the delivery just makes the scene feel like more of a joke than it should've, a shame because Flint's ensuing breakdown is actually believable.

Earthbound covers a much wider range of themes and locales in a shorter amount of time, and it does so without beating you over the head with it. The things Ness and co. see on their journey are left for the player to think about. When you have to fight the Onett cops the player is free to treat it as another kooky batch of enemies, or stop to think about it as a commentary on American police brutality; whether you believe it's either one, the point is the game doesn't overemphasize what it wants you to think and quickly moves on to the next interesting thing it wants to show you.
Mother 3 does succeed at having
superior combat, and bosses being much better balanced (seriously, every major boss in 3 is tense and feels close to the wire), but that's it.

That show was never good and doesn’t hold a candle to other sci-fi mecha like gundam 79, Xenogears or even gunbuster which was made by the same guy.

Kek, I suppose I don't remember shit from Eva, never saw Rebuild and saw the original anime when I was 15. Guess it's up for a rewatch. I remember something similar in Jin Roh, where Japan is basically a pupper state for the israelites after WW2.

Angel Cop also blatantly names the israelite and Iraq. 90s anime is ripe with that shit.

oh look it's the anti-mother3 gay spamming again.
your argument falls flat when Mother, the series, has no obligations at catering to anyone's needs. It's Shigesato Itoi's series.
He never made it a secret that Mother 3 was going to be inspired/based on Agota Kristof's The Notebook novel. It's still connected to the overall Mother universe, but it's not Mother 2, just as Mother 2 is not Mother 1, despite following a pretty similar story, it's heavily different in tone, pacing, writing, structure.
If it bothers you, you have some kind of OCD or something, things don't have to be all uniform or follow your own logics.

I literally have no idea what you're talking about. If you have some autismo rivalry with some other anon, that doesn't concern me. I only made this thread because I'm replaying the trilogy back to back right now.

Mother 3 doesn't have to follow in 2 or 1's footsteps, I never said that. If anything it's better it tried to do its own thing. That being said; it could have executed its own themes much better than what we got in the final product. The comparison to 2 was the fact that 2 delivered on doing its own thing better than 3 did on its own thing.
If 3 was a bit more nuanced about how modernization, corruption and despair crept up on Tazmily I think it would be a much more effective game. If the game didn't explicitly spell out for you the characters' thoughts or the moments where it wants you to feel sad (among other things) then everything would feel more natural.
I will give credit where its due and it's that it's one of the most well balanced turn based RPGs I've ever played and the combat is genuinely fun if you're a bona fide rhythmgay.

My issue with M3 is that it's "tell don't show". You have those walls of text between chapters explaining what happened before and between. Not to mention that big loredump near the end, which could've been done better if the game scattered hints around the game and then made a big reveal that pieces everything together.
I know Itoi is/was something like a slogan writer than an actual novelist (and I'm not sure because Mother had a novelization) but he could unravel the plot in much better ways.

The most subtle stuff was its Giygas connections if you had played the first game and even that had a big chunk of it cut out seemingly with the cut final boss fight. I can only imagine Itoi wanted M3 plot to stand on its own or something with its message rather then make it feel like a true "sequel" to the first 2 games plots.

Funny because 3 is much more dependent on having played 2 because of Porky, than 2 was dependent on 1.
