Suicide is always extremely taboo in all religions or spiritual practices where they dangle their version of "eternal life and paradise" as a carrot to keep the congregation in line, because the obvious conclusion if it was not taboo is always "but why don't I just kill myself now and go straight to heaven instead of toiling away here?".
Catholicism is much stricter on suicide so Catholic countries on average have lower suicide rates than secular countries, it's pretty obvious this is the reason.
What's kind of interesting is how the Imams can apparently bypass this taboo as long as you blow yourself up on their orders, but I don't think there's any acceptable form of suicide in Catholicism, even in "service of the faith". Hard to judge tho, like catching a bullet for someone would probably not count as suicide even if you technically willingly and knowingly threw yourself in front of the bullet.
