The Bow is the perfect choice weapon for monster hunting, just as it has been the perfect hunting weapon in real life for thousands of years. I'm not here to go mano a mano honourable duel with any monster. I'm here to hunt them for their bones, meat and other craftable materials.

what game are you playing? i've seen horn pretty consistently on both world and rise
I played World like 5 years ago before Iceborne on a friends console so I've just restarted recently on my own console, so I'm still like HR 20 right now, but like 90% of my online hunts are occupied by longsword and bow users
that might be the problem
i started playing horn once i got really good at my weapon and needed something with a higher skill ceiling. you're probably playing with people that are just learning the game

I can't bonk monsters with it so it's useless to me.
MH monsters are covered in so much natural armor of scales and bones the only weapons that would make ''sense'' is the hammer, gunlance, and bowguns with bombs
Back then you were obligated to main a weapon other than bow in order to carve all materials possible.

This, it's an unga bunga weapon at heart. People pretend it's intellectual just because you have a lot of options mechanically. As a former GS/SnS main, CB is my soulmate.
it's only intellectual because of the amount of work that goes into putting vials into shield/sword and even then its really not a big deal.

I love both of those weapons but CB feels weird to me. I can use it but something about the whole process doesn't click with me.
Some hunts are harder than others because CB makes you slower than fricking shit and some of the heavy hitters take forever to go off and if you're fighting something fast or something that likes to fly, you can be left seething because the fricking monster decided to change directions RIGHT BEFORE MY FRICKING SAED HITS
but man theres something truly wonderful about hitting one and watching Lunestra fall the frick over like a little b***h

Me too. It's a completely different weapon now with all the anime dashing around and especially in World with all the shot type variance removed. How the frick they fricked bow up so much that it felt better to play while aiming with the fricking 3DS nub is beyond me.
Actually it isn't beyond me, old bow was about perfect consistency in positioning so you can always walk out of danger to keep charging and always being within crit distance of the weakpoint as soon as the charge is finished. Damage is low but like lance it's kept up with consistency. New bow is all about shitting out as many arrows as possibly as quickly as possible through dash charging. There's no deliberation in movement because you're never walking and you're basically just forced to move through dash -> shoot -> dash -> shoot ad infinitum.
I played solo bow all the way through to G rank in 4U cutting tails with the dumb bow melee.
Hell no, frick off worldbab.

Everytime I've tried it, I end up doing no damage and throwing an SOS flare so I don't spend 50 minutes poking something to death
I like lance in 3u because it makes the underwater combat bearable but it is boring in every other game.

I don't blame you, but it works really well with some weapons. Hammer, Sns, SA, and IG also come to mind.
DB is another good one, gets a tenderize in one hit and it's a pretty cool animation.

My problem with lance, it's zero damage. I'm sns main in MHW and for some reason tiny ass sword deals more damage, than giant fricking spear. And that without counting agility, attack speed, item usability, jump attacks and even block. I want to like spear, but I just can't.
Rise's hunting horn is fricking awful. No weight to any attack and no forethought required. Feels like a DB main wanted to make Hunting Maracas so they could button-mash all day. Just a travesty. (Drawing into any note was nice, though.)

Thinking of getting back into mh and buying world but I haven't played since 4u. Is HH good in world? I remember saying it was either great or horrible. And I know world has no g rank; what is iceborne, is it g rank?

I never played HH in other games, it's fine in World. Iceborne adds G rank basically, it's called master rank now.
it's pretty good, they made playing your songs way more efficient
problem is the motion values are really bad except for the one spinny move introduced in iceborne
the gameplay feel good but is suffers the most from boned weapon designs and most of the utility songs became useless so its got a bad case of just spamming attack up horns and nothing else

Bow was what I played in MHFU, my first genuine foray into mh (I played original and 2 on PS2 but never did more than like lr 1 star.)
I did some gunlance too but bow was always what I enjoyed, world was the first time I think I was able to play JUST bow, start to finish, and actually do pretty well. But that's on me, not the other games.
I am absolutely terrible at aiming with bows/guns in the older games that's why I play GS
The light bowgun is more fun. Setting mines and trigger them when the monster is on top of one.
