I used to hang out with my boss from my previous job and one day he showed us his GTA save that supposably had like 30+ hours on it. We assumed he'd either have beaten it or at least be close to the ending, but the dude never even started the missions. He spent 30 fricking hours in GTAV just stealing cars and running from the police with like 2 guns. He says it was the best game he ever played.
GTA 4 main game is 20-30 hours and the DLCs are only 5 hours each, assuming not much downtime in the player's playstyle. They are somewhat dragged out compared to 5 due to the slower average driving speed, which is why fast travel is featured fairly prominently in the game - if you use it at every opportunity, you may cut down the main game to sub 20.
GTA story missions tend to last 10-15 minutes on average (including the driving and talking part), add that with cutscenes and the number of missions the game has, it's probably the case. .
i prefer rdr2. i can go around kidnapping women and putting them in front of trains, i can beat the shit out of people and generally roleplay being a psychopath which is its main draw

Yeah. GTA V's Mainquest had three times the viewpoint characters of IV's and and was about half as long. So you got a whole lot of plotlines that were abandoned or unceremoniously cut off midway through, a whole lot of the map that was practically not utilizes at all and a whole bunch of shit that felt like it was being built up and never paid off. Part of it was definitely related to pacing rather than length but if you compare it to GTA IV or either of the RDR games it was extremely rushed.

It's going to be RDR2 but in the GTA universe meaning it will have a massively detailed open world but the most basic b***h shallow gameplay imaginable. They will do away with any and all of the RPG elements from earlier games because it turns away normies and probably force a two weapon limit (handgun and rifle/shotgun) because muh immersion.
The characters will be generic cardboard cutouts with fuzzy motivations and the hilarious satire of American culture that was always a staple of the series will be dumbed down and sanitized so as not to offend the constantly offended people who won't even play the game.

Famously most of the people who play GTA don't finish the single-player content. They bugger around in the sandbox and they play the Online live service.
Rockstar could literally release a barebones city-crime sim with Online shit, and it would still sell amazingly.

GTAV is from the days of 2006 hardware (and it shows), it ran on ps3 and xbox360.

From GTA Vice City onwards, they never even bothered to keep it at stable 30 fps.
Vice City shipped with numerous bugs, some of which could brick your game.
GTA: San Andreas literally is filled with mechanics that don't work properly.
Max Payne 1 and 2 were ported by Rockstar and are notorious for being terrible ports.
GTA 4 run terribly on all consoles, not to mention the shitty PC port.
Max Payne 3 also still has performance issues on PC.

RDR 2 is just about the only game that doesn't completely shit itself, and it does that by lowering the resolution to 720p and then smearing it with vaseline.
