A much better and cohesive experience than the expansions overall, the only thing the expansions nails is presentation in the story. The zones feel really empty in comparison.

FFXVI is really really bad. I've been playing SD Gundam battle alliance lately and even that has better combat.

One button mode in FF16 = automatically does all basic attack on Square, the Eikonic Feats on Circle, the Eikonic abilities on R2+Square and R2+Triangle and the Triangle cast all by pressing one single button. It is the most optimal way to play.
In XV all only pressing one button does is only the mid combo part of a basic Attack looped and nothing else, all other actions are only done through different button inputs and button combinations no matter what. Holding is the least optimal way to play and you will die.

VII, IX and X's Rock'N'Roll intro are still the champs, but once Phoenix's Gate got infiltrated I felt the same excitement that I felt during those games, knowing full well that an epic journey lied ahead. Between the player agency above all else titles (ToTK, Elden Ring) and the narrative games so focused on story they feel restricting (TLOU, GoW) this honestly feels like a breath of fresh air. Focused story + solid gameplay. I'm hyped. I finally get to go on another vidya adventure again.

I feel like I’m in the twilight zone because everyone seems to love FFXVI and FF7R but I can’t possibly be playing the same games as them. Maybe not as high as the old FFs but not remotely bad at all. Also it's very clearly using samples rather than real instruments which is a bit disappointing.
This one drops you into combat as phoenix about 10 seconds in as phoenix. Plus the cutscenes are skippable unlike many other FFs. The intro with the flash forward is just so zoomer attention spans can see some flashy things to get them hooked. If the cutscenes bother you, you can just skip them.

In XV all only pressing one button does is only the mid combo part of a basic Attack looped and nothing else, all other actions are only done through different button inputs and button combinations no matter what. Holding is the least optimal way to play and you will die.

VII, IX and X's Rock'N'Roll intro are still the champs, but once Phoenix's Gate got infiltrated I felt the same excitement that I felt during those games, knowing full well that an epic journey lied ahead. Between the player agency above all else titles (ToTK, Elden Ring) and the narrative games so focused on story they feel restricting (TLOU, GoW) this honestly feels like a breath of fresh air. Focused story + solid gameplay. I'm hyped. I finally get to go on another vidya adventure again.

They did play the game and they did have clear criticism about the game. Like at start it ran like shit until it got patched, game was clearly rushed and unfinished as basic stuff like Arcane scaling didn't work on weapons, the entire joke of an AI, how the game is pretty much copy/paste, etc.

I feel like I’m in the twilight zone because everyone seems to love FFXVI and FF7R but I can’t possibly be playing the same games as them. They’re honestly some of the worst shit I’ve played in years. FF7R is 95% filler, with some of the laziest, most phoned in side quests I’ve ever seen in my life. XVI is basically the Japanese version of the modern Sony exclusive template. I’m genuinely having a hard time understanding the praise.

While I agree with a guy a bit "the worst music of any ff ever" is still a pretty fricking high bar. I think it's probably above FF12 in terms of music so far though. Maybe not as high as the old FFs but not remotely bad at all. Also it's very clearly using samples rather than real instruments which is a bit disappointing.

This one drops you into combat as phoenix about 10 seconds in as phoenix. Plus the cutscenes are skippable unlike many other FFs. The intro with the flash forward is just so zoomer attention spans can see some flashy things to get them hooked. If the cutscenes bother you, you can just skip them.
