The DualShock controller was just as ground-breaking as the console itself. Legendary design that is still widely used decades later.
What went so right?

meh
left stick wasn't in the right place imo
kys
based xbro
well no I only got xbox hueg after ps1 and ps2
True
Shit taste, go play call of dooty
I don't think it's about taste. just ergonomics.
symmetrical stick placement just doesn't let you hold a controller thoroughly, or it overstretches at least one of your thumbs. with all the dual shocks you're forced to sort of open up your grip of both hands when you're playing a game that mostly uses both sticks. while in the case of a controller with the left stick at the top you'll have that one hand gripping the controller thoroughly most of the time.
Imagine being so much of a pussy you have to cry about how much your poor thumb is stretched by symmetrical stick placement. I mean, seriously, how small and weak do your hands have to be for this to even be an issue?.
>game that mostly uses both sticks
Well I guess that's the reason, I don't play those outside of a few exceptions
tiny girlyman hand homosexual detected, imagine having to stretch your little nippon thumbs to reach the sticks ngmi
I can comfortably use both
What kind of alien shitty hands do you have, you disgusting freak?
you're gonna pretend you have no idea what I'm talking about for anonymous imageboard cool points? fair play, I suppose
My brother in Christ, I was using that shit just fine when I was 8 with teeny tiny hands. How small are your hands?
A better argument would be carpal tunnel or trigger finger, which is understandable. I use both interchangeably.
You hold a Dualshock in your fingers as oppose to your palm as you would an xbox controller. That's the most comfortable grip.
Huh? The PS controller is perfect for call of duty. that's why it's a shit controller, it's only perfect for FPS and pure 2D games. and ape escape.
Heck, that 2D games part is evident by how the PS1 controller started off as an SNES controller with grips (based btw). then they just lazily added dualsticks to not compromise the original controller
Definitely a god tier cover-all for retro gamers. if you want a single controller for your MiSTer, this is the one.
Sony was crying because they tought Xbox was going to make COD exclusive, saying it was a monopoly. Kek.
But Sony has so many great exclusives of their own, like Naughty Dog’s latest feature films, or Spider-Man starring a Black person
Well yes, that's why they loss the sue
moron
nah
you should read this
Already did.
You're both moronic.
You couldn't fit a dpad in the bottom area without having some moronic lopsided controller or a very small dpad. That's why the Xbox dpad is so terrible.
saturn did it
dreamcast did it
wiiu did it
I'm probably forgetting quite a few others
Saturn analog and Dreamcast are both clunky monstrosity controllers. Wii U dpad is ass
is it ass because of the stick placement? I don't think so
fpwp
homosexual
homosexuals like you are why d-pads are such shit nowadays.
The Snoy d-pad has always been shit, it was a huge step down from the SNES controller they ripped off in the first place
I don't like analogs as primary controls
Yeah it was in the left place.
My fellow Gankerner haha.
>majority of ps1 games designed for dpad
uhhhhhh
End yourself underaged moron
correct
lmao at the Snoytrannies malding @ that fpbp.
Take your anti-Sony culture war horseshit back to Ganker where it belongs.
modern sony might be shit but retro sony was not only the best it ever was but also the best of them all.
Xbox, Gamecube and N64 were better for the multiplayer alone. If it weren't for Symphony of the Night, Megaman X Collection and Star Trek TNG coming out on DVD I would've never bought a PS2.
Wrong.
This is true. Microsoft and Nintendo fixed this problem two decades ago by raising the left joystick. Sony didn't change it because people were used to the design, not because it's better. The dualshock design does make sense if you're going to use the d pad as your main input, but most games aren't based around the d pad anymore.
Incredible how much seethe this post generated. Sega, Nintendo and Microsoft figured this shit out on their first try, it's only dumb snoys who pretend their dualshit isn't uncomfortable.
can't beat simplicity, it's basically the good old SNES controller everybody knows but with analogs and a better grip, a upgrade on a already loved design.
>it's basically the good old snes controller
not with that "d-pad"
Better than the mushy and depressing snes dpad
nah, dualshock sucks for fighting games that aren't Tekken
so why do so many amerimutt fighting game pros use the DS4 specifically versus the dualsense, xbox controllers, fight stick, etc
they're mostly 16ers so it's probably the controller they learned the game on
sorry, that was rhetorical, it’s because the dualsense and xbox dpads are ass and the ds4’s isn’t
I have not once played a PSX fighting game that requires the sticks.
Sony got lucky that they figured it out a use for FPS using the dual analog. Until that the dual analog feature was seen as pointless
Dualshock is essentially the perfect controller. If youre analyzing button resistance and travel distance you need to stop being a redditor and go touch some fricking grass.
They took what nintendo perfected and made it perfecterer.
Truly a recipe for great success.
N64 and Saturn controllers were better. Saturn 3D pad has much better stick
>N64
Dude three hands lmao
make it smaller, like 80% of its original size, and it would have been great.
t. Actual moron or tryhard forced meme homosexual
Xbox-style thumbstick placement is sliiiiiiiightly more comfortable but I will never, ever prefer it because it places the Dpad in such an uncomfortable and awkward position which makes 2D games feel less important and like I need to use another controller instead. In my life I have never understood people who're filtered by symmetrical sticks.
This. I prefer symmetrical controllers because I play mostly 2D games and it gives the d-pad a more dignified position, so it feels right.
I'm amazed that Sony hasn't cucked out and copied the Xbox layout yet, but I'm glad they haven't. I love my DS4
>take SNES controller, add grips and double the number of shoulder buttons
>later, add two joysticks in the only place it would fit
there's nothing really groundbreaking about these things, it's just a natural iteration of another successful controller design.
Pretty much.
Meh. I bought an Xbox controller for my PC a couple of days ago (mostly for emulation, but I can presumably use it for modern games as well).
Seems good enough for most games.
Also, kinda seemed to make sense since Microsoft would probably be somewhat invested in making sure their gaming controllers are compatible with Xbox and Windows.
Just put sticks on a SNES pad bro. And like, two extra triggers.
Controllers shouldn't have both a dpad and an analog stick. The perfect controller(analog) would have no buttons on its face besides start or select. All of the other buttons would be on the top or the back where your fingers are, leaving your thumbs free to manipulate the analog sticks.
wow, what a frickin terrible idea
Buttons on the front of a dual analog controller is simply moronic. You can't press the buttons while using the right stick. It's just an idiotic design. There's no argument against this. Either move the buttons to the back of the controller where you have free fingers sitting there doing nothing, or remove the second stick.
Holy shit, you're absolutely frickin moronic
They should make you lead designer at Sony so the PS6 will be their last console
Which PS controller is best for fighting games?
The original, without sticks.
Correct.
The Dualshock cleaned house.
