For a long time, it seemed as if 1-stage and 2-stage Pokemon that had a Mega Evolution or that were introduced with a Gigantimax Form would not be eligible for a full cross-gen evolution despite there being no explicit rule made for these cases otherwise. Given how Game Freak is, adding an evolution to a Pokemon with a gimmick form might come across as tampering with their future-proofing for when the eventual XY and SwSh remakes come about. Of course, when those times come, the devs might simply dexcut Archaludon and its compatriots in order to "make space" for these Pokemon's gimmick forms.

They retconned their “it can’t evolve because it could never use eviolite” autism in PLA/Gen 9 by letting you evolve things like Ursaring and Dunsparce. “It can’t get a real evo because it had a mega” will be next on the retcon chopping block.
The exact terminology is “that were thought to be unable to evolve any further” and in the same game a town later it is stated that megas only occur in Kalos, which ORAS retconned a year later anyway.
