The funny thing about Wales vs Ireland is that in Wales the language survived but the dance music didn't and in Ireland the opposite happened.

You wouldn't get music like this in Wales but you get people speaking the language in everyday life. The schools I went to in North and Mid Wales taught every class in Welsh apart from English class. In Ireland they teach Irish but it's only in one class and you wouldn't find people speaking it too each other outside a select few counties

You could chalk this up to the paddys loving to party so being able to recite the language in a drunken stupor would certainly help. Maybe their close proximity with the bongs of the south made them boring and stuffy over that time and with the government enforcement of the language preservation efforts singing wasn't included in that mandate.

I know in Wales the Presbyterian faith got quite popular, for Presbyterians any kind of fun is a sin so that's why the dance music died out, but they would still sing Choir hyms in Welsh so the language stayed and there is till a strong tradition of Choir singing today

Well in Ireland most people only speak a small amount of Irish. You learn it in school but pretty much no one speaks it outside of that with the exception of the gaeltacht areas. In Wales you still get many people speaking Welsh to eachother and all classes in school are taught in Welsh, it's true of north and mid wales but I'm not sure about the south

In all seriousness, I don't think we're going to get a genuine advancement in TES or Fallout games until Todd leaves the company. From what I understand, he's the one calling most of the shots and he absolutely REFUSES to acknowledge the benefits of switching to a modern engine. Even in interviews he himself states that Creation Engine lets them "create things faster", which is a fricking laughable thing to say 13 years after Skyrim with still no ES6 anywhere near release. For a long time I was okay with giving them the benefit of the doubt because I'm not a professional game dev, but at this point they've made the same game but kinda worse like 5 times in a row now. They've clearly COMPLETELY stagnated, and that mouldy-ass engine is absolutely part of the problem. Its lighting, physics, and animation short-comings are were glaringly issues 5 years ago, now they're pathetic.

Loading screens aren't even an engine issue.

You can fly, in real time, from one planet to another, and the planet actually exists as a 3d model. You just can't land on it because the game wasn't designed to work that way since only a moron would fly at sub light speed between planets, when that takes like 10 hours IRL, when you can just FTL jump to it in 3 seconds.

Same thing with towns/shops. As far back as Morrowind people have merged towns, and interiors, into the regular game world and it runs fine. Bethesda only does it because of consoles, not because the engine can't do it.

            Anonymous

I know exactly what the issues are. A big part of it is engine limitations. LOD, draw distance, animation blending, and physics are very outdated and they cannot be made to feel good. Modders can minorly improve these things, but they're only "better" in comparison with the rock bottom bar Bethesda sets for those things.
Story, dialogue, RPG mechanics, and balance/scaling are all issues as well and have nothing to do with the engine; however, I didn't say the engine was the only thing wrong with their games.
            Creation Engine apologists are delusional.

I have, and those things still felt dated. There are also no environments in Starfield where an impressive draw distance or LOD would be taxed. Every environment that wasn't an interior was extremely bare bones. 9 foot tall trees and/or some boulders. The technical improvements in their games move at a fricking snail's pace. They inch along with their improvements once ever 3-5 years and are getting absolutely left in the dust.
Their engine was cutting edge like 20 years ago, but it absolutely cannot keep up. They need to move on.

Make up whatever tangential fanfic you want, but the fact is their engine has become shit compared to other modern options and it's the core issue with almost everything wrong with their floaty, weightless combat, shitty immersion-breaking animations, and Doom 2 level AI.

Funny thing about the AI. Bethesda has said in basically every game since Oblivion that thier AI is originally designed to be much harder, but playteasters hate it so they massively dumb it down.

The engine has frick all to do with AI. You can put whatever AI you want into Creation, and you can make the AI just as "bad" as it is in Bethesda games in Unreal or w/e.

Usually its too hard, and most people don't play game's for difficulty.

I know dragons in Skyrim used to have access to a wide variety of shouts ranging from become etherial, to that fast jump/movement shout, all of which got cut because playteasters found it too hard. So in the released game they just get fire/forst breach, and the fus-ro-dah shout.

Still sucks for everyone else with triple digit IQs, though. Although, I think devs/publishers do underestimate how complex and challenging you can make your game if it's intuitive enough and/or the tutorials are efficient. Games are definitely dumbed down MORE than they need to be at this point.

Todd isnt going to replace creation engine because everyone working at Bethesda is way too old and do not have the time to retrain themselves on a new engine. This is what happens when you have legacy employees instead of gutting everyone out completely and replacing them with new hires that knows how to use modern engines.

Once Todd is gone and everyone else retires with him, Bethesda will be free to swap engines since nobody there will have a clue what to do with the creation engine anymore.

True. If everyone left and new people came in, they'd all be scratching their frickin heads at this Frankenstein's engine. I really don't get how this is a controversial statement. That "Bethesda Jank" that we ALL know is because of the engine. The same bugs and jank that were in Oblivion are in fricking Starfield.
A new engine won't fix their boring writing or abandonment of actual RPG mechanics, but it will fix at least one aspect of their terribly aging games.

A big part of the problem though is that modding is the big thing that gives their games such long lifespans and continual engagement. Without that they'd essentially just have the one shot and that's it like everybody else.
If they made a new engine themselves, yeah, they could continue that since it'd probably still be somewhat similar to CE. But if they dropped it for UE or something, that'd put that in jeopardy.
It wouldn't surprise me if Todd was holding out because he's nervous as hell about this part more than anything else. He knows they ain't got no sauce without fans handing it to them.

That's a good point, and historically I've given their engine a lot of leniency because of that exact reason. However, I think we're starting to see a tipping point in their game design; Starfield is so middling in longevity, replayability, and innovation that the normally reliable modding community don't seem to care about it that much. That could change with updates I guess, but the interest so far has been very lack-luster compared to something like Skyrim. Part of their problem is engine related, and part of it isn't, so an engine change would go some way into addressing the issue.
All of this is academic at this point, since they've chosen to keep their ghetto-ass engine for yet another TES game.

It will pick up. Skyrim unmodded isnt actually a great game like the journos make it out to be and that game is probably the most modded game by far. One things for sure though some good fricking POIs and seamless travel need to come out.

Starfield didn't add anything. Crafting is worse. Outposts are worse. Companions will constantly moan at you. Perks are worse. There's fewer gear slots. Can you imagine 16 times the loading screens, though?

An example of a quest; You'll Go to a star yard, talk to a lady, need to fetch a
beverage. 10 loading screens later and you got a beverage that's it. That's the only quest in that handcrafted location.

I honestly believe we have the worst UI in the world because hey you know the modders will fix that and after 100 hours in the game I still have no idea where anything is in New Atlantis. I honestly have zero clue where my penthouse apartment is.

Its the exact same system as Fo4, just with far less junk to pick up to make it work.
            > That's the only quest in that handcrafted location.
So like many quests in Skyrim and Fo4?
            > I still have no idea where anything is in New Atlantis. I honestly have zero clue where my penthouse apartment is.
This speaks more of your personal issue than anything. New Atlantiss is so small I memorized the layout in the first 3 hours of the game. Its fricking impossible to get lost unless you have zero object permanence.

Perks genuinely suck. Many of them are to this day still bugged (upgrading ship shield makes your shields worse).

              >Sarah, "OMG DID YOU JUST FRICKING DO THAT? NO YOU DIDN'T! YOU'RE HILTER! I WANT A DIVORCE!

In Skyrim the basic radiant quests that the game randomly generates have more depth than the handcrafted beverage boy quests in Starfield, which are complete with hand written dialogue about how delicious terrabrew coffee is.

The cities not having maps in an inescapable regression. There's 3 fricking towns in the game and they still didn't do it.

Skills in Fo3 and NV didn't work worth a shit though.

The 1-100 skill system was designed for character skill based isometric RPGs where the player had no hand in the result of the fight. In this situation each skill point could offer meaningful bonuses to accuracy that massively impacted the fight.

Fo3, NV, and Fo4, weren't that though. They were action RPGs where player skill was the primary factor. Because of this, things like accuracy bonuses to weapon skills means frick all, and you could go 20-25 points in something like a weapon skill before seeing any actual effective icnrease. This same issue existed with things like lockpicking, hack, and most other skills in the game.

At the point only every 20-25 skill points matter, why do you have a 1-100 skill? Why not just make it a 4-5 rank perk, where each perk rank = those 20-25 skills?

Fallout 4 changed frick all about how the game actually worked, it just presented how Fo3 and NV actually worked in a more honest way.

Also, Fallout made SPECIAL more important since, due to the "removal" of skills, you couldn't have contradictions like a 1 charisma character, that had 100 in speech/barter and got the best prices/passed every speech check regardless. Now charisma is the most important thing, since its the primary stat on speech checks. Ditto for the other SPECIAL attributes in Fo4 compared to Fo3 and NV.

Only mongoloid morons who had no idea how these games work, and just want to bang rocks in anger over it
              >NOT LOOKING LIKE MUH D&D!

              >NOT LOOKING LIKE MUH D&D!
              Got mad over the changes.

the changes Fallout 4 made also fixed some other issues such as
-Being able to constantly level up meant you were always rewarded for shit you did in the game unlike Fo3/NV.
-Changing everything to perks, and limiting it to one perk point per level, made it far easier to balance. Unlike Fo3 and NV, where it was piss easy to metagame and get 10 in all SPECIAL, and 100 in all skills, and all the best perks, before even being done with half the game's content, you basically have to replay everything in Fo4 like 3-4 times over to get all the perks(due to exponential EXP requirements)
-Making it to where you don't have to spend all your perk points on level up means you can actually make a build and stick with it. This unlike F3 and NV where you were often forced to go past your build because of forced level ups.

So on top of the Fo4 perk system being a more accurate representation of how Fo3 and NV played in reality, and making SPECIAL stats like Charisma actually useful, it fixed these others problems as well. Its honestly just a better system if you put any examination into how these systems worked.

Bethesda will be merged or split in the future. They made good games 10 years ago but it's unironically over if they don't start to use modern qol features. No one wants loading screens in a 2030 release game, no one wants janky NPCs, no one wants diarrhea brown textures, bugs, boring travel, shitty quests, stupid story.
People are desperate for a great RPG but I'm sure as it's Bethesda, it's going to be shit and hopefully MS closes them.

BG3 showed everyone that it's possible to make a good RPG in the modern era. Bethesda just needs to copy them.

Are they using the same lead writer that did starfield and fallout 4? I know they are, fricking idiots. I'm not touching this shit with a 10 foot pole at 60$. I'll buy it when it's on sale for 10$. I don't think there's a worse group of writers in AAA gaming, I really don't, and these fricking morons won't get rid of them.

beth tried to play it cool and not anchor down when they struck gold. they walked away from that explosion all cinematic like, and never will light a fuse like that again.

This is a company/development team that thought the same about Fallout 76 and Starfield. They are not a reliable judge of quality.

    >Whats funny is that I've still seen many people say space combat is too hard in Starfield, even with the braindead AI.
    Surely you jest?

No, in fact, one of the most frequent suggestions I see people give out is people saying to turn the game down to "very easy" during space fights because its "too hard" otherwise.

That's because if you didn't put any points into space skills it's literally impossible to win space fights even with a good ship on anything other than easy, and since there was very little reason to engage with the space shit it felt wasted adding points to those skills

Assuming that all of the Skills from Skyrim return in some shape or form: if you can add six Skills to VI (two each for Combat/Stealth/Magic) what would they be?

NOW THEY CHANGED THE NARRATIVE THAT IT JUST STARTED DEVELOPMENT MONTHS BACK

STOP FALLING FOR THE BAIT AGAIN

i mean technically all Bethesda games are in a playable state when shipped, and still trash.

I swear to God looking for something original in a Bethesda thread is like looking for something original released by Bethesda. Do you ever get tired of saying the same things over and over?
