Impact isn't hard to measure what are you talking about? There hasn't been a resurgence of crpgs, that's all you need to track. Contrast this with the impact of the TES series cementing the open world meme into modern gaming.
To be fair though, people who look at this game and DoS2 have gotten the success all wrong. It has nothing to do with the single player content or the autistic donut steal super unique Larian OCs . The large part of the success is due to the fact that it is a fun multiplayer experience that is contained in a single game with a story. No one cares about the story, the sex scenes, the shitty companions, etc. Just like no one cared about it in DOS2. It spread due to being fun and multiplayer (despite multiplayer content playing second fiddle to the single player experience).
Pretty much only autists are playing these games by themselves.
