They actually scrapped the 1st iteration that got dunked by fans and allegedly stated they didn't even want to publish that first, it was just a way to toy with the engine which is why there was so much unnecessary shit like a torch in the middle of an wildfire
they have a podcast going with the lead dev and the composer guy
PB hasn't made a passable game in over 10 years, they're in a tailspin and just exist due to german tax-cucks. This is easy money for an increasingly desperate dev.
They didn't port it for nintentards, they did it for consoomers gothic fans who are gonna buy the game again and again just to "prove" how real diehard fans they are. Even when there's no point playing this game outside of pc with the amount of mods it has there plus the clunky controls for a controller
Wrong. I've played not only Gothic 1, 2 but also mods like L'hiver, Archolos, Odyssey, Ahssun and Dirty Swamp. That's how much I like it.
I like how gothic plays, WITH FRICKING MOUSE + KEYBOARD. But I don't imagine how could you play with a controller an action game that has tank-controls
is this with a mod? I always played the games with mouse and keyboard and it was always faster to turn with Q and E than with the mouse

Honestly I always used Q and E more often despite using the mouse. Combat was not made for mouse usage either.

No mods. You have to increase the number of camera rotation speed in the .cfg file.

I only use the mouse for smooth turns during running. The combat isn't really designed for mouse usage in my opinion.

>3rd person action RPG game can be played comfortably with just one hand on the keyboard
I wish more games had a similar control schemes to Gothic
>I limit myself by playing a 3rd person pc game like if I was playing it on a fricking emulator
the autism is high in this one
If I had a switch I'd think that's pretty neato. I remember when I found Mount & Blade Warband on the PS4 store years ago while browsing it. Not the worst port honestly. Of course I bought it.
Good idea. Gothic games were way less popular than they should/could be, maybe simply re-releasing them will bring it to more people. They sure should fix english dubbing though.
1 just gets worse and worse after the first act. I don't know why people pretend like the first game is some classic RPG, it's a laughably unfinished and unfun piece of shit.
cool. If they adapted it for a modern-ish system couldn't they update the PC version too? Would be convenient to not have to install fanpatches and fixes yourself when you install it again.
>Gate guards can no longer be fooled by having your weapon drawn.
oh shit >Cor Angar will no longer refuse to train you when you're already a templar. >The quest "The Big Thing of the Brotherhood" will now resolve in a more elegant manner. >The Sleeper will now wake up from his sleep when Cor Kalom calls upon him.
wtf it is actually a proper update.
They better release it on PC soon.
The new Bloodrayne devs had the right idea and every other company should do what they did.
don't know. I've only played the PC version.
My only complaint about it is the massive disc size of Terminal Cut (like 14 GB irrc). I'm gonna assume it's probably due to 4k textures which is understandable. Still I feel like they could have found a better solution rather than bloat the game like this.
>Fixed a bug that prevented npcs from stealing the hero's weapon when defeated.
lol. looking forward to the angry nintendie reviews when they realize what old games were like
pretty sure people who are not cut out for it will drop the game immediately after starting it and realizing there's no minimap or goal point to follow. Everyone's reloading the game after being defeated in Gothic anyway, so this one is not too much of a big deal.
> Increased static lightmap resolution to match Gothic 2. >Locked chests now always have a LOCKED model, and vice versa. >Jumping with the acrobatic skill will now work consistently. >Items on shelves should now be easier to pick up >The player will no longer receive XP for killing previously defeated enemies with magic or a ranged weapon.
Some really good changes, I'm honestly surprised
I just noticed a lot of fixes just patch broken ways to cheat the game
This is probably why some people here don't like it, they can't finish the games legitimately
This game has a pack of like 30 mods if not more improving the gameplay and attempting to flesh out the world but it's pointless. The game is fundamentally flawed.
not sure if porting absolute shitshow of third game's engine is as straightforward as handling comfy old engine of two first games. Also, uh, as much as I loved this game and as much as it is a guilty pleasure of mine, I have doubts on whether 3 is objectively worth the effort. It wasn't nearly as widely regarded as 1 and 2.
>Is this worth playing at all?
No. Gameplay is dogshit, you can solo entire orc city by spamming left click. >I heard that 3 does some random plot retcon bullshit
Correct, characters from previous games suffer the most.
It's shit. I can tell, i've beat it easily ten times or more. Plot is trash and game relies entirely on sidequests, combat went downhill from second game and I can't even call it fun anymore. But then again, I was coming back to it over ten times, world is insanely impressive, classic Gothic feel of progression is still there, there are feels to be felt in there. Guess you'll have to make your own choice on whether it's worth your time to even try it, but despite being objectively meh, this game sure has something to offer.
the controls were awkward on fricking keyboard, how are you supposed to play on a switch???? >the weird way the ladder worked >it was easy to close inventory instead of swapping the tab >the weirdass precision you needed to interact with things like chests or levers, or to pick up things on ground
Have fun, king.
I've been meaning to play The Returning mod after it's gotten a huge update since I last played it years ago, but I haven't really started yet.
What great games, and I love how alive the community is even 20 years later.
City watch was clearly meant to be the 'main' route, even in current state you'll probably be surprised how much more effort has been put in there compared to Araxos.
Insane mod, it's unbelievable they did it all for free. As big as G2+NotR, everything's from scratch, this is pretty much a full game that got fanmade.
True. I wish I could take the money I've paid for Elex and Elex 2 and give it to the Archolos devs, they clearly understood the Gothic formula a lot better than modern Piranha Bytes.
For one, it MASSIVE. I last played it ~5 years ago and sank over 200 hours into it.
It's been too long to remember details, but there was one world where you helped orcs kill a demon, and the videos were ripped straight from Warcraft 3.
I mean I like Gothic but why, as if the average nintendie switchoid would like this
maybe they are done with their remake of the first game soon and plan to use Gothic Classic as advertisement for it?
>remake
why did you have to remind me about that abortion of a game, anon?
They actually scrapped the 1st iteration that got dunked by fans and allegedly stated they didn't even want to publish that first, it was just a way to toy with the engine which is why there was so much unnecessary shit like a torch in the middle of an wildfire

I'm cautiously optimistic Anon
%3D
yeah that's what i heard too. let's hope for the best.
There is no way in hell the slavegirls will survive intact and the game won't get dumbed down for Witcher audience so they can frick off anyway.
>Game is ported so more people can enjoy it
>Ganker:fricking tendies
so childish
Bold of you to imply it would interest them since there's no bing bing, wahoo, or flurry rush.
>but why
PB hasn't made a passable game in over 10 years, they're in a tailspin and just exist due to german tax-cucks. This is easy money for an increasingly desperate dev.
I doubt PB is in any way involved in this. They don't own the IP. Not that anything else about your post is wrong.
My switch is literally an RPG machine. Yes ill be picking this up
They didn't port it for nintentards, they did it for consoomers gothic fans who are gonna buy the game again and again just to "prove" how real diehard fans they are. Even when there's no point playing this game outside of pc with the amount of mods it has there plus the clunky controls for a controller
>plus the clunky controls
someone hasn't played gothic
Wrong. I've played not only Gothic 1, 2 but also mods like L'hiver, Archolos, Odyssey, Ahssun and Dirty Swamp. That's how much I like it.

it works
Use high dpi on your mouse
>mouse
pfffftttt
absolutely nobody but a pedophile like you cares about this sex crazed Neuro divergent insurgebt hungry game
If I had a switch I'd think that's pretty neato. I remember when I found Mount & Blade Warband on the PS4 store years ago while browsing it. Not the worst port honestly. Of course I bought it.
No goddamn way tendies figure out how to play this
i read in some article that they adjust the controls to the switch and also got rid of bugs and such...
Now the real question is: What will you go first?
Old camp and Bow for me
how do you even play it on the controler
and how did they port a 20 year old pc game, is this some emulator?
In Gothic's case i am guessing
X or Start: inventory
Y: left swing, A: right swing:
B: jump
Shoulder buttons bow or something
It's unironically plays better with a controller. There's a mod on PC too. They most likely just port that.
where can I find the mod?
In Steam Workshop
>how do you even play it on the controler
have you played gothic? All you need is like 3 binds + movement
i guess also 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. for your spells and stuff, but this is easily solved with some radial menu or shoulder buttons i guess
the game uses a control-style controlls, I'm surprised it wasn't even made for consoles, because on PC it plays like a console port.
Cool, but modded PC version is the way to go.
I don't care about the Switch but it's nice that they're doing something with Gothic, and they even updated the visuals a bit. So I'm glad.
Wonder if that means they will patch the PC version to make it more stable, give it optional controller support and maybe even G2 controls plus 60 FPS
here's hoping it won't be more than 10 bucks
would this be more playable on the switch port than the pc? the controls filtered me
what is there to filter you? Just hold Ctrl while pressing left and right arrow key to swing your weapon around.
"Tailor made controls" is nice but coming from such a company it's still scary. At least its graphics are fitting for a Switch game.
Better enjoy your last few weeks before you can't hold this game up so high, europegays.
They'd have to get their hands on NotR for this to happen.
Good idea. Gothic games were way less popular than they should/could be, maybe simply re-releasing them will bring it to more people. They sure should fix english dubbing though.
Unironically one of the best games ever for me
t. 37 y.o. played it on launch
gothic 1 is total shit, people are going to laugh at how bad it is. it should've been 2.
Both 1 and 2 are great games
1 just gets worse and worse after the first act. I don't know why people pretend like the first game is some classic RPG, it's a laughably unfinished and unfun piece of shit.
should've been both in one
i doubt they know or care about anything that is not zeldashit, mario or marvel movies
anyone plays Gothic with the direct3d 11 renderer? Does it cause your gpu to shutdown occasionally?
>Does it cause your gpu to shutdown occasionally?
No? Try locking your fps to 60 or something.
I've heard it used to be wonky but I played Archolos and G2 this year with it on from beginning to end with zero issues.
cool. If they adapted it for a modern-ish system couldn't they update the PC version too? Would be convenient to not have to install fanpatches and fixes yourself when you install it again.
Man the list of bug fixes is fricking insane. It's an actual proper port.
https://thqnordic.com/article/gothic-1-switch-list-fixes
Makes me almost wish they released this update on PC.
Question is though if they did censor anything, especially Mud or the slave girls.
>Gate guards can no longer be fooled by having your weapon drawn.
oh shit
>Cor Angar will no longer refuse to train you when you're already a templar.
>The quest "The Big Thing of the Brotherhood" will now resolve in a more elegant manner.
>The Sleeper will now wake up from his sleep when Cor Kalom calls upon him.
wow they are also unfricking the swamp camp? nice
wtf it is actually a proper update.
They better release it on PC soon.
The new Bloodrayne devs had the right idea and every other company should do what they did.
Weren’t the switch ports of bloodrayne total shit? Did they fix them?
don't know. I've only played the PC version.
My only complaint about it is the massive disc size of Terminal Cut (like 14 GB irrc). I'm gonna assume it's probably due to 4k textures which is understandable. Still I feel like they could have found a better solution rather than bloat the game like this.

this is amazing, the wonders of having the original source code to work with.
>Gothic beat Morrowind to the Switch
Bros... we got our revenge after two decades... is this finally our time in the spotlight?
Always was in Germany and Poland for some reason.
>they don't know
You can already play OpenMorrowind on switch.
Wonder if it will have typical Nintendo-exclusive jarring content.
kinda pointless, barely playable without mods and overhaul patches
https://thqnordic.com/article/gothic-1-switch-list-fixes
look here then
> Increased static lightmap resolution to match Gothic 2.
>Locked chests now always have a LOCKED model, and vice versa.
>Jumping with the acrobatic skill will now work consistently.
>Items on shelves should now be easier to pick up
>The player will no longer receive XP for killing previously defeated enemies with magic or a ranged weapon.

wtf I want that patch on PC
Wait until they release an anniversary edition like what they did to Titan Quest
>NPCs will now detect trespassing, even if they don't see you enter the room.
>NPCs are now able to navigate through doors without getting stuck.
did they just adapt one of the community patches, I wonder
Time to grab the NSP as soon as it's uploaded and replay it
Souless
I just noticed a lot of fixes just patch broken ways to cheat the game
This is probably why some people here don't like it, they can't finish the games legitimately
Gothic 1 is laughably easy in retrospect, I doubt anybody would struggle with that.
>more rpg slop
No thanks.
Did they hire Archolos people for this, it seems to have a very high give-a-shit quotient
>some old warriors and warlocks and magic and spells slop
Who gives a fricking shit about these kinds of premises. Its so overdone.
>stone will now be hostile in chapter 5
so no armor upgrade then?
You can do that in chapter 6. I think it's a bit strange to limit it like that though.
What's the fricking point of this old turd when Zelda and Elden Ring exist?
It's already playable handheld on the Deck anywho, and the Switch audience doesn't want it.
Better NPCs, for example.
>Switch audience doesn't want it
According to who?
>Gothic 1 gets an update
>Gothic 2 is almost guaranteed to get the same treatment
is there any chance, Gothic3bros?
Outward is Gothic 3 if it was good.
Outward is Dark Souls if it was actually like what its fans claim it's like.
This game has a pack of like 30 mods if not more improving the gameplay and attempting to flesh out the world but it's pointless. The game is fundamentally flawed.

I had fun, but it's quite different in the way how factions work. At least you can become a druid and also dual weild. Desert is kino
Gothic 3 has so many frustrating issues even a 1 hour essay couldn't cover it all.
It is the worst game I have enjoyed playing, if that helps you any.
>Is this worth playing at all?
No. Gameplay is dogshit, you can solo entire orc city by spamming left click.
>I heard that 3 does some random plot retcon bullshit

Hu? Weren't we supposed to be a remake of this game?
PC when?
Theres a remake coning to PC along with Xbone and Snoystation, why would PC even want this? Just use mods????
the controls were awkward on fricking keyboard, how are you supposed to play on a switch????
>the weird way the ladder worked
>it was easy to close inventory instead of swapping the tab
>the weirdass precision you needed to interact with things like chests or levers, or to pick up things on ground
What the frick
I have a switch so I'm now curious since this is the best gothic game, but still
welp, it's time for my bi-yearly playthrough of G1 and G2 I reckon
Have fun, king.
I've been meaning to play The Returning mod after it's gotten a huge update since I last played it years ago, but I haven't really started yet.
What great games, and I love how alive the community is even 20 years later.

How's Returning? All I know about it is that russians ripped a lot of assets from other mods and games and made a huge bloated one.
For one, it MASSIVE. I last played it ~5 years ago and sank over 200 hours into it.
It's been too long to remember details, but there was one world where you helped orcs kill a demon, and the videos were ripped straight from Warcraft 3.
>How's Returning?
Imagine if Russians made Korean MMO inside Gothic 2 engine and added a lot of cringy fanfiction bullshit on top.
Since this got ported to the switch I also want Nox and Dink Smallwood on that shit
Divine Divinity maybe too
Wait, didn't Risen get a Switch port?
Reminds me of when they ported original Jagged Alliance and a few other classic DOS games to Nintendo DS, those were the times.
>3rd person action RPG game can be played comfortably with just one hand on the keyboard
I wish more games had a similar control schemes to Gothic
Pretty cool, I wonder how the controls will turn out.
