After Elden Ring, after the DLC, after Armored Core and maybe another spin-off like Sekiro we're bound to get another grand Soulslike RPG from FromSoft.
What do you think the future holds for Souls?
What do you hope for?

Another Elden Ring-like game different setting, maybe revisit Sekiro/Bloodbornes aesthetic to break up the high/dark fantasy Dark Souls look
And yes, that includes making it open world ofc :^)
Pretty much this
I think after the MEGA success of Elden Ring, they'll stick with the open world design, for better & worse. But they'll probably switch up the design & setting
More of the same shit in a different package, I'll still play it though.
>Armored Core
>"Hey, our dark fantasy RPG games print money. We should abandon them and instead make a game about a genre that is considered embarrassing and ridiculous by modern audiences".
A new AC is pretty much confirmed to be in development.
Some art stills are hardly a development confirmation.
There's more than that but whatever, I'll let you figure it out on your own.
It makes sense to announce one now after releasing a frickhuge Souls game, they put everything they had into ER and it shows, they're creatively bankrupt when it comes to this style of game. I don't think people can stomach another one anytime soon so they might as well go sci-fi to deliver up something fresh.
>"From is creatively bankrupt! People don't want Souls games anymore!"
>Elden Ring proceed to sell 12 million copies
>Meanwhile Titanfall failed after just two games
u are a fool to think titanfall is mecha LOL
That's the point.
People dislike mecha so much Titanfall's developers used a different word to refer to the mechas and tried to downplay the mecha aspect, because it's a dirty word and a dirty concept.
Meanwhile the internet is full of video and text essays explaining why mechas are stupid and tanks make more sense.
lmao at yr video and text essays
Code Geass pwns yr soul
and all yr Black person critics too
the HOPLITE was a MECHA
U moron
Mecha is a for nerds. Its a wish fulfillment to enhance their own enfeebled bodies. Now that normies are infesting vidya, mechas have become unpopular.
MECHA is the ARISTOCRATIC war story...
As in
The bronze age
To make that armor, and to wear it
Took considerable resources
It was
The mecha of the time
Mecha is simply a yearning towards
Aristocratic war
U see nothing but wat is already ded
And so u feel nothing
U tasteless
Worthless ^_^
ok dweeb. Go larp about putting on armor then.

On both the present
And the future O_O
ER was a massively anticipated game and a lot of long time fans expected something new and exciting, instead they got more of the same with some minor twist like always. I guess it's fine if you want Souls to be like CoD, Monster Hunter or some live service game.
Frick it why not, lets hope they make a Souls MMO.
From promised Dark Souls 3 with horses and open world, and delivered Dark Souls 3 with horses and open world, nothing more and nothing less.
If you were idiotic enough to create some outrageous ultimate game inside your head a la Cyberpunk 2077 hype, that's on you.
>instead they got more of the same with some minor twist like always
Yeah and it was great. People loved it exactly because they got what the wanted, more Dark Souls on an enormous scale.
who considers mecha this way? No1 considers it at all...
No more souls combat pls. Bloodborne and Sekiro are a step in the right direction. The combat in Elden Ring is so fricking stale, and most enemies are overloaded for the limited movement of the player
To this day I don't understand why people claim that Bloodborne is a completely different game from the other Souls games.
It's the same thing, you just play with the agility of a DEX character regardless of build.
the choice between a free aim roll and a lock on dash along with transform attacks really adds more to the souls combat than you'd think
No, not really. It's still the same stamina management, i-frame abusing R1 combat.
I should replay the game one of these days; haven't played it since 2017, but I still remember how disappointed I was at the thing being another Souls game (which isn't a bad thing to be fair) compared to the "game that reinvented videogames as a whole" I was promised.
Quick step, guns, trick weapons, blood gems, rally, an actually powerful R2...
Adding a jump doesn't make much of a difference in combat (it's just op for some weapons) and guard counters are underused or plain useless for some enemies
>Quick step
It's just a dodge.
>guns,
It's just a parry tool, unlike Nioh's guns.
>trick weapons
It's just two weapons combined into a single combo.
>blood gems
Not very different from weapon forging on the Souls games. Do you know which game used a Blood gem-like system before Bloodborne? fricking Lords of the Fallen.
>rally
This one is pretty cool, but favors button mashing
>an actually powerful R2
R2 is powerful on the Souls games too.
You can make really powerful gun builds, but the best gems are in the chalices. I didn't know that LotF has that system, anyways that game is really mediocre.
The moveset from trick weapons is more elaborated and varied than any other weapon from other souls games (I don't know about Nioh or other spirtual successors)
Why are you talking about a genre and about games you've never played or experienced?
I bet you would be offended if I talked about Bloodborne without having played it
I haven't played LotF and I won't play it, it looks like a cheap clone. I've played Code Vein and didn't like it, and maybe I'll try Nioh someday. I'm talking only about From games, I thought I've already clarified that
Don't bother with Nioh; it's very similar to Code Vein, on top of being a loot grinder like Borderlands or Diablo.
>Don't bother with Nioh; it's very similar to Code Vein
so a decent game?
sure, if you have trash taste. Go play borderlands.
the moveset versatility, rally system and lack of a block option sets it apart.
it's become obvious now that fromsoft makes the best gams when encounters are tailored for one main playstyle in mind
>Bloodborne, the farming simulator has better gameplay than Elden King
Kys troony
>he had to farm
Don't care. I'm not buying any more Souls rehashes.
There's no way they don't at the very least make a trilogy of Elden Ring games. The lore sets it up very nicely as well.
God please no
Elden Ring-scale game but it includes all the settings of all Souls games, Bloodborne and Sekiro. Basically official Archthrones.
I would like to see some dark lovecrafitan conifer forests with alpine zones. All I ever wanted from a souls game.
Also a hub area on par with majula. Rolling waves, top kino soundtrack, distant misty forest and mountains, Majula is basically the best hub I have ever seen in vidya.
More casual roll spammy button mashing combat for the kiddies.
What do all of those games have in common?
They are all inferior to DS2.
I want methodical and tactical combat again. I want freedom and strategic gameplay to return. No more mash R1 and spam roll 10 times crap. I want a breadth of playstyles and tangible customization options. A deep action rpg. I want punishing levels and a wide variety of unique scenarios that challenge your intuition and problem solving skills over "pressing the iframe button" being the only gameplay.
this is all you need to show how shit ds3.
torch doesnt even go out like 2, wtf was from thinking.
Sorry dude, From won't make a game like DS1 or DeS ever again
We're never getting that again brother. From sold out to add 12 year olds and casuals.
>major company makes a move to make their game more popular and make more money
shocking I know
Reminds me of the Konami controversy.
It's almost as if they're private companies whose goal and mission is make profit.
2 and 3 both suck
The damage DS3 did is irreparable.
Bloodborne and its consequences has been a disaster for the Souls series
Yeah, they are never making a better game than that sadly
Is that gank fest in the dark souls 2 supposed to make the game look good? This clip makes both games look moronic.
It's not a gank fest it's a horde of enemies. What's the problem?
Dark souls 2 uses enemy hordes way too much. And the enemies in said hordes are too powerful to be grouped up with 10 other guys.
I like hordes and those enemies are appropriately challenging for a horde. And if you put yourself in a position where you're surrounded by a horde a lot that's your fault.
>if you put yourself in a position where you're surrounded by a horde a lot that's your fault
Like the flamberge soldiers in the lost bastille? Or are you going to defend that as well?
Are you going to act like those enemies are too challenging for a horde too?
If you are playing through the game for the first time yes.
o_o
Nice nonarguments. You are not given a chance not to trigger them in that section. if you jump down a little ledge they start pouring out. You are also given no indication that a gank is coming.
>NOOOOOOOO IT'S TOO MANY ENEMIES ALL AT ONCE
>still not making any arguments
yr argument is literally that u simply don't lyke it
Wat a massive brain u have
Wrong. I am saying the encounters are designed poorly. Wat a massive brain u have
You weren't making an argument either. Other than it's too challenging just because you say so. I don't think so. Those enemies are slow, stagger, have lengthy recovery on their attacks, and there's lots of space to maneuverer around in. It's a an appropriate encounter for a horde.
>You are not given a chance not to trigger them in that section
so?
>You are also given no indication that a gank is coming.
So? You're given a chance to react which is the important part. It's not an instant gotcha death because you triggered a horde. Than it would be cheap feeling.
>But the enemies in them have to be manageable.
I managed with the game just fine. The enemies are made to be fought in hordes. You aren't fighting hordes of the Hammer knights in Dragon's Aerie.
>The enemies are made to be fought in hordes
If they were made to be fought in hordes they did so poorly. You are telling me 3 ogre enemies are meant to be fought at once?
>Lots of space to manuvre
While this may be true in some areas. it is not the case in many ganks in the castle, lost bastille and parts of the earthen peak.
When do you fight 3 ogres at once?
>While this may be true in some areas. it is not the case in many
So adapt. Do you think an adventure is facing the same exact challenge over and over again? Give me examples.
git gud
>fighting a horde of different types enemies such as ranged+melee or big and slow+small and fast
good horde
>multiple of the same enemy type that bumrush you
bad horde
Yeah not saying all enemy hordes are bad. But the enemies in them have to be manageable. Many hordes in ds 2 are like 5 ogres or like 12 two-handed swordsmen or 12 of those demons in the pirate cove area.
I'd agree a lot of the hordes in DS2 are poorly thought out encounters. A lot of other FROM titles do better hordes: I'm just saying that hordes aren't necessarily bad
2 and Scholar do hordes the best of all their games. Scholar more so.
Idk, when I think "good horde encounter" the first thing that comes to mind is the mob in central yharnam. Good hordes are taken out ballroom blitz style, while the hordes in DS2 I remember taking out by just backpedalling through narrow hallways instead
>Good hordes are taken out ballroom blitz style
Go play Dynasty Warriors than
You cant count every enemy total in a level as evidence of a horde. If you're fighting 12 two-handed pirates at once you ran through an entire level and aggroed every single one because you're an idiot or fricked up somewhere.
Nope, there are parts in many levels of the game where you are fighting 5 plus enemies at once without running through including the cove.
>Nope
If you're fighting 12 dual swordsman pirates at once you fricked up. Don't tell me nope.
> there are parts in many levels of the game where you are fighting 5 plus enemies at once
I don't even deny that. That's not a problem.
I wasn't even talking about the pirates. I was talking about the two-handed swordsman in the bastille. The pirate area I was taking about those demons things what ever the frick they are.
>I was talking about the two-handed swordsman in the bastille
And they're completely manageable. I managed them just fine.
>pirate area I was taking about those demons things
You don't fight anywhere close to 12 at once and you can keep them away to their own little secluded spots by using a torch. They'll run away from you.
>I managed them just fine
Good for you bro
So they're manageable.
According to you but I disagree
Doesn't matter that you disagree. It's an objective fact they're manageable. I don't have time for feelings.
So its manageable because you said so? LOL BASED LE FACTS DONT CARE ABOUT LE FEELINGS.
non argument
Those are easy to deal with since you only pull 2-3 at a time by literally just walking in and out of the room. Funnel them through the door and kill one by one, or if your weapon is big enough, all at once. If you run in and die like a b***h, whose fault is that?
When I played the game on release as soon as you open the door 5 of them rushed you. Not sure if they changed it or not later. I mean its doable but hard as you can only back track so far as there is a small drop before you get to the door.
Evergrace 3
Instead of caving in and going with the multiplayer style of the seamless multiplayer mod I'd like them to keep refining the multiplayer style they developed.
How about dedicated servers where player ghosts aren't replays of other players but instead actual players you can interact with. Imagine hundreds/thousands of player ghosts all present in your world and you could walk up to them and they'd see you. You could interact with them and invite them to join you instead of using a summoning sign.
You could invade players at will by targeting their ghost and entering their world. Shit would be so much fun.
The summoning system really needs a rework either way, it's too restrictive for coop in Elden Ring. I'm hoping for a more persistent option for future games.
it won't happen.
The From fanbase will never accept any other co-op system (remember, they went as far as denouncing the Seamless co-op mod with Bandai Namco's legal department claiming that it was a serious breach of the EULA) so From has no reason to try to innovate.
FROM fanbase are the ones who downloaded the mod in droves in the first place. The only people crying about that were PvP homosexuals and the reason for PvP being impossible was exactly because the mod used dedicated servers, not official ones. FROM could just combine both things, seamless coop option for passworded session but with PvP. Problems solved.
Giant robot:
- Huge, complex machine that offers no advantages over a plane or a tank; it just turn a regular soldier into a regular soldier but bigger, without bringing any genuine improvement.
- The technology, resources and logistics required for the mecha to move would be enough to deploy an entire bomber squad or an entire tank squad, which would be actually useful on the battlefield.
- Biped so it can't move fast like a vehicle or a plane. Humans are among the slowest creatures in nature because bipedal movement is impractical for running, climbing and jumping.
- Movement, targeting and shooting dependent on a human soldier from a wienerpit, which will be always inferior to automatic targeting.
- If you shoot a rocket at its leg, the thing becomes completely useless.
- If you block its camera (which is always located on the head, a nice big target), it becomes useless, a pretty big target for the enemy
- When its gun runs out of ammo / energy, you're left with an useless big grunt that offers a pretty big target for the enemy
yes u are talking about
Current reality
Mecha is fiction
Drawing on
Not future
Or present
But ancient times
When advanced technology was in hands of few
For few
And thus an individual might make history
And thus that regiment...became LEGENDARY.
How might this look in future?
Who knows
I do not...
But it is about THIS
Beating heart, the romance of war
War that does not exist anymore
And so
Relegated to fiction for now
Although even children still
Play-act and dream of the same things...
Mechas simply are too impractical to be used on battlefields.
It's the same with the supersoldier (someone like Captain America or the Master Chief) is ridiculous: a single dude would never be able to win a war by himself because war is more than just killing people.
u betray yrself
How did
Small groups of men
In Past
Conquer large swathes of land?
U are the one
Who only thinks of killing
Imagine seeing
That gleaming bronze armor
On men beyond the size of normal men
Many simply acquiesced.
Anyway
history is there for u
To see if u wish
I know it is common
For so many
To believe in that
"End"
But such things never hold
Why do you write in such a queer style? Is this what Mecha does to the human brain?
>queer
homosexuals just can't help themselves XD
Then why do humans move on two feet and not with many legs?
Because they aren't intended to run fast, climb mountains or soar skies, unlike a quadrupedal animal or a bird.
A battlefield vehicle is intended to move faster than on-foot grunts; otherwise mankind wouldn't have bothered creating said vehicles.
You're right. We're extraordinarily capable of manipulating our environment though. Imagine how easy it would be with a hand the size of a car.
I feel like I'm the only one who finds Demon's Souls the worst of the Souls games, while still being a good game on its own.
It had some great areas and it was the base for the series, but it's too rough and too short.
Enemies and especially bosses will continue to get faster, more aggressive, more combo-centric and have more grab attacks, trickshots, fake-outs, input read and harder than ever before.
Player characters will get new spell animations or something.
I am like 99% certain Souls is completely dead, I'd love to be proven wrong but I have zero faith in From
Is that another alpha build or is the same from ever?
it's thriving and they have 3 big IPs to work with, 4 if Armored Core gathers enough new interests
just say you're a homosexual who doesn't like that it got popular and now you can boast you're le epic hard gamer
More yearly rehashes
>what I want
not open world
>what we're going to get
open world
The souls games were all practice and a way of building up a library of animations and shit so they could make something like elden ring. The dark souls series is finished, they didn't even want to make it more than one game, they didn't want to make a third, they're done and going to use the new extra popularity of elden ring to not ever have to go back to that franchise and try to force another story out of the setting.
Elden ring though can get spinoff stuff, more major DLC, all kinds of shit.
But what I want and doubt they'll do is a space game. Every time I've tried getting into Destiny 2 I'd just think "wow these are cool enviroments that are just completely wasted on this series" because there's such a disconnect between whoever is making the maps and whoever is making the games and whoever is making the lack of story. Great visuals wasted on shallow world building.
So I wonder how Fromsoft would do with a souls-like game in a scifi space setting.
1 Armored Core coming up sir, would you like a drink with that?
No more open world
Linear format is infinitely superior, it's not even funny.
ER will probably get a DLC like you said and I do believe that AC leak as well. So those are the next two things presumably. I think they'll do another more action focused game like Sekiro. This could be a Sekiro 2 or a new IP altogether. As for their next action RPG, there's a decent chance it could be Elden Ring 2. The money is there obviously so it just comes down to what they want to do. If they don't do ER2 then I who knows what it'll be. I want all of the above, especially another more action focused game like Sekiro.
>What do you think the future holds for Souls?
More copy-paste, empty open world Bloodborne clones that get hyped to hell and back for bad combat and "lore."
Something experimental like a team ico game
Bandai Namco announced that Elden Ring was the started of a new franchise. Given that this game is set to outsell the entire Soulsborne series on its own I highly fricking doubt that it doesn't get sequels. DS1 didn't do anywhere near as well.
Didn't they specifically state they were focusing on nonvideogame media for Elden ring? DLC is all but guaranteed imo but Miyazaki hates making sequels
Elden Ring: The Spirits Within O_O
feel like i am reading CAPRA demon COPE again LOL
BAD DESIGN BAD DESIGN BAD DESIGN
Its gonna be all open world trash now. When Elden Ring came out, fromsoft died. Its over fromdrones.
The future is I never want to see another dodgeroll ever again. It's well past diminishing returns at this point.
Im interested in this new AC title.
So long a it's gritty, atmospheric and has challenging enemies I'm in.
i like the idea of scifi souls. would be a cool union of AC and souls maybe. katana and grenade launcher arm build.
