With RTwP you consider you have to consider your entire party and the enemy units at the same time. Even with the ability to pause people get overwhelmed if they are expected to make that many decisions at once.
Another issue is that the gameplay to the average person just looks like Starcraft. Real time strategy games aren't that popular to begin with.

No studio wants to show their games mid development unless they can make them look good, which would defeat the purpose of what you're proposing. Plenty of games still get shit on for pre release stuff that they fixed before they came out.
Well ideally developers wouldn't even tease, let alone announce, a game unless it's a year or less from release. So a game present at the summer event would be basically done in december and maybe only requires some bug fixing and optimization which wouldn't take more than a couple months.

I agree with him that the event was more of a glorified ad, even more so than E3 was with most of the awards being brushed in a few seconds and half of the trailers were about Fortnite, that being said, devs already have GDC for praising, this was supposed to be about the games, not the devs.
It's so pathetic how celebrities shows up just to plug some project and people act like it is some amazing thing. Like a famous athlete returning to their high school or something. They are just blown away that Hollywood person would give any attention to the little old games industry when the game industry itself dwarfs the other entertainment industries.

I mostly don't give a frick about awards, but the sheer amount of disrespect on display last night was insulting to developers. I don't hate Kojima, or the Muppets, or anyone else that got disproportionate screentime. But come on, they could have shaved just a minute or two from each of those egregious skits and circlejerks to give people some time to honor their colleagues.
