Turtles in Time and it's not even close, but this thread will have a few console warriors trying to paint Hyperstone as the better one just because it's on Sega and not Nintendo.
Both are good games anyway, Konami in their good days. Turtles in Time is just THE classic turtles game and the SNES version has the most content.
HH is more like a different game using some of the same assets and ideas but it's really a different game, not as big or spectacular in scale, but still a good game.
literally the only thing turtles in time has going for it over hyperstone heist is the neat gimmick fight of throwing enemies at the screen. thats it. "but the levels!" each of HH's levels are basically two in one. "but the bosses!" HH bosses have better moves/patterns for any bosses that are shared, and it also gets tatsu. also in regards to shared stages, HH's variations are more interesting and challenging. the elevator sequence is SIGNIFICANTLY better in HH. also HH has tighter and more polished controls, so simply PLAYING it feels better.
literally the only thing TiT has going for it is one stupid gimmick.
Tatsu is not a plus point at all, homosexual.
Nobody cares about some random bald nobody movie original character, and his boss fight is boring AF since all he does is spawn grunts infinitely while jumping from one side of the screen to the other occasionally shooting projectiles, wow, what a complex pattern.
considering how they arent very complex at all either, you're not really making much of a point. "all of these cookies have 6 chocolate chips, but this one only has 5, so it fricking SUCKS" thats how you sound. you're complaining about a giant nothing. tatsu fight isnt a bonus because of any sort of difficulty/complexity, its because its fricking cool.

What was up with the art on the cover for TMNT games
The Konami games obviously took the majority of their inspiration from the '87 cartoon, so how come they so often employed the gritty comic book style for their covers?
I think it was made by the same guy who did the covers of Contra 3, Castlevania 4, etc.
They had that gritty and radical artstyle common in toy packagings of the early 90s.
>The Konami games obviously took the majority of their inspiration from the '87 cartoon, so how come they so often employed the gritty comic book style for their covers?
The earlier 'Ultra Games' releases mostly use art from Mirage Studios or Mirage Studios creates new artwork for the game. Like the original NES Turtles game uses art taken directly from one of the comic book covers. Turtles II on the NES has a cartoon style, and was also art created by Mirage Studios. I think Turtles in Time on the SNES, as well as Hyperstone Heist and even Radical Rescue used art that was created by Konami's own in-house artist. The same artist that did the covers for Contra III and Castlevania IV. Mirage Studios were never strict on branding, They created quite a bit of artwork for cartoon related products that would use the grittier style all the time.
>The Konami games obviously took the majority of their inspiration from the '87 cartoon, so how come they so often employed the gritty comic book style for their covers?
I don't think Konami was designing the game after the show at all. I think they were mostly pulling from the toy line, because the toyline was directly tied to the show 90% of the time, though Playmates had rights to make toys from other TMNT related properties like the movies. Though they did use music themes from the show. Even characters like Tokah and Razar had movie tie-in Playmates figures, and they were in both Turtles in Time for the arcade and SNES. Though moved to the Technodrome for the SNES game. But also, the game did come out the same year as the second movie. I also think Konami used the Playmates toyline to just model all the characters. Like it was easier for their pixel artists to just model from a bunch of toys that they had in the office for the games?
Slash from the SNES game looked nothing like the cartoon version. But it did look exactly like the toy sculpt. I think the Konami artists had a bunch of Playmates TMNT toys when modelling the sprites.
Why is that the Japanese SNES version of this and the Japanese Gen version of Hyperstone Heist are called different names (Mutant Warriors and Return of the Shredder respectively), despite their console counterparts being called by the normal names? What is the marketing rationale for this?
>I'm going for Hyperstone hard mode 1cc this week, I'm close I can feel it!
died on shredder
that's close
HH is actually pretty tough to 1cc on hard mode even if you abuse dashing/sliding non stop
is it just a sign that i played it too much as a kid, that the only way it was remotely challenging is if it was on hard? i used to 1cc it all the time.
honestly, thats a good question. as a kid i always liked raphael the best anyway, and i definitely played him the most. while i know that the ranges for other characters were longer, i think raph had more speed or something? im not sure if that influenced my old decisions or not. its been too many years.
I've always enjoyed the weird bootleg feel of Hyperstone Heist - its like a romhack fever dream with the assets and engine of Turtles in Time pallette swapped onto the Genesis, with levels and characters lifted from TiT, Manhattan Project and the movie
I'd almost believe it was some kind of unofficial bootleg
Turtles in Time wins, but Hyperstone Heist is no slouch - its levels just drag a bit too long with not enough variety, the hitstun isn't as snappy as SNES game and lack of foot soldier being thrown into the screen.
Still an excellent companion piece and well worth checking out if you love TiT and want a different flavor of it/just played TiT to death.
Hyperstone heist is a better game. Arcade reminiscent difficulty with more aggressive AI, run button, quicker gameplay. TiT is a snooze-fest in comparison.
I wish the new turtles had a similar style, more grit, some darker night levels with punk enemies

The great debate
Anyone tried Turtles in Time arcade on hardest difficulty? It's nuts
Key words are in comparison. Once you git gud at HH, TiT feels pretty sluggish imo. A lot of it has to do with the run button. That's not to say it's a slow game, tho
Hyperstone sprites look redrawn from TiT and are off model and uglier. It’s pretty noticeable whenever you do the shoulder charge and the grab slam move.
I liked that Hyperstone had a dedicated dash button. made things a lot snappier.
My favorite TMNT game though was a PC game called Manhattan Missions.
its was slow and kind of awkward in the way that old PC games were but the graphics were amazing and the music was low key and atmospheric. It did not play like a console game at all.
Yeah the controls in HH are tighter and more responsive and the hit detection is better, but literally everything else is better in TIT.
The skill ceiling is like, 10 times lower in HH than in TIT
HH is like >run >do the slide move >you're now one/two shotting everything in the game while being literally invicible for entire seconds >repeat >all you need to ever learn are the bosses but the 3/4th of them ALL act the same
What a shit game. And anyone who hasn't noticed this about HH and is genuinely arguing it has better gameplay must either be a really bad beat em up player, or a sega console warrior
>Yeah the controls in HH are tighter and more responsive and the hit detection is better, but literally everything else is better in TIT.
I have no horse in this race but that sounds like a pretty huge deal for a beat em up. This almost reads like a falseflag, kek.
>Turtles in Time and it's not even close
This. There is no debate. I've never even heard of Hyper Stone Heist. Genesisgays will never stop being in denial.
It's kinda hard to debate this one. Turtles in Time was a port of the arcade game, with some extra levels, some additional bosses as well as a few re-arranged bosses. Hyperstone Heist was basically made out of art assets from the original Arcade game and Turtles in Time. Hyperstone Heist does have one original stage, as well as one new boss not seen in any other Turtles games, as far as I know. It has Tatsu from the first two live action movies. Hyperstone Heist plays well too, looks good, has some nice music. It's a good beat 'em up, overall. Maybe a B+ Turtles in Time SNES would be an A.
One thing that makes me cringe when playing Heist is the bad, chipmunk voices in comparison to Time's cool and clear ones. I usually like the Genesis ports of arcade games way more, too.

Regardless of some wanker needlessly coping, typically I think Brits are based and should retake this country immediately (while abiding by our Bill of Rights). They made great games. Most of continental Europe is extremely gay now, however.
Is any turtles in either game objectively best and worst? In the snes game for example I don't like how Leo has a jump at the end of his combo. Seems really lame as well considering he got two katana's so he should be reaching out with them.
Why is that the Japanese SNES version of this and the Japanese Gen version of Hyperstone Heist are called different names (Mutant Warriors and Return of the Shredder respectively), despite their console counterparts being called by the normal names? What is the marketing rationale for this?
Is this gonna be another one of those aladdin cases where the snes version is clearly superior but segatards try to cope by claiming otherwise? You're not fooling anyone still
I have never played HH and went to go see a Speedrun to see whats up. This game was made just for coping Sega fans back in the day sad they had no good TMNT games. Dollar store TMNT beat em up.
But if that's all I had as a kid I would love it - no doubt.
Not gonna lie the new turtles is true to the retro classic turtles and might be best belt scroller of all time even if it's on the long side that being said Manhattan project and Hyperstone are peak
TiT is better there aren't many that will say Hyperstone heist is better. HH however is a solid version and unique, so it's worth playing and deserves more people to try it out.
The real debate is TiT SNES vs TiT Arcade. I'd go with the SNES version but can't say I'm not jelly over the better looking arcade version. I'd hope someone made a romhack of the arcade version with all the SNES extra content.
I've said it before. HH is more challenging, has faster gameplay and more responsive controls. I prefer those things more than presentation/aesthetics that breasts does better
Playing TiT after HH feels like trash to be honest, since so many important moves are stuck to the run button and TiT has no run button you have to mash manual run constantly to get anything off and it's cumbersome, inputs get lost its not accurate or speedy
What really kills HH is the repetitive nature of it. Levels drag on way too long and it doesn't have enough variety to engage for that period of time. By the time you finish level one in HH you'd gone through THREE levels in TiT, including bosses and one stage which is a pure surfboard level.
This might had been fine if HH did something interesting with its runtime, but these sections just drag on with a lot of padding that just goes on without interesting nuance. They don't give you any interesting combination of enemies or hazards that mix up your gameplay, its just endless corridors of foot soldier mooks. It ends up feeling cheap rather than engaging.
you didnt actually play the game (or at least not beyond the first level), nor do you like arcade beat-em-ups, which is clear from what you consider to be a problem, and also the fact that you're extremely incorrect in your second part. if you deny this, then you must explain how the statements in part 2 dont also apply to TiT. the problem is you cant, because you didnt actually play the game, and you're just a shitposting homosexual, lol. cope, seethe, and get owned.
Hyperstone Heist is like a dollarstore knock off Turtles in Time. Truly horrible pacing in that one. Walk forward two inches, fight four foot soldiers, repeat twenty times before the level is over. The game actually has a boss rush that takes place in a reskin of a previous level for maximum padding.
>Walk forward two inches, fight four foot soldiers, repeat twenty times before the level is over
explain how this is different from TiT, or really any other game of the genre.
levels are broken up into parts. longer levels before free heals means higher difficulty. overall game time remains equivalent. speedrun time is only a ~5min difference. your adhd doesnt make the game worse, it just means you suck as a human being. if you arent interested in playing a game, thats a you problem. stages have interactables to launch at enemies, as well as hazards to face. there are just as many enemy variants in both games, though perhaps more foot types in HH. "lack of anything interesting happening" and yet you fail to present any examples of how TiT makes "something interesting happen" in opposition. you have presented no actual argument.
>if i dont get a new background and a boss fight every 60 seconds, its too boring and im going to throw a tantrum
lmao you dont even like playing games.
hit once to make them flinch, step forward, attack again while they are flinching, this lets you throw them. even easier, run and shoulder bash them, this should make them flinch and also put you close enough that your first attack press will occur when you are close enough and automatically grab them.
Turtles in Time and it's not even close, but this thread will have a few console warriors trying to paint Hyperstone as the better one just because it's on Sega and not Nintendo.

every boss (except stockman) is 4 hits and then they do an attack and/or move across the screen. your argument is invalid.
They are still more complex than fricking POS Tatsu, you turbowienersucker

anon HH is fine but you'll never convince anyone that it's better than the classic Turtles in Time.
Thread shows many (most?) players prefer HH tho
Turtles in Twats and Hyperhymen Heist both pale in comparison to the actual only good Turtles game
Allright anon, sell me on this

Turtles in time is best but the megadrive game is still great.
Hyperstone Heist due to the snappier faster gameplay and run button. But both are great beat em ups that rival any arcade bmup.
Hyperstone plays a lot better but is missing all of the content. The SNES assets on the Genesis version would be the definitive version.
>SNES assets
>Genesis engine
>4 players
>Arguably arcade music
There, the definitive 16 bit Turtles beat-em-up
Why choose?
Hyperstone heist is a better game. Arcade reminiscent difficulty with more aggressive AI, run button, quicker gameplay. TiT is a snooze-fest in comparison.
TiT has better graphics though.
>TiT has better graphics though.
Nah. Hyperstone Heist has better parallax, therefore it wins in the graphics dept.
Fair enough, though its def up to taste. I do love how badass the turtles looked in HH

I will always say Hyperstone Heist just for this song
ehem
If you're gonna go that far you may as well include the remake too
Dude, there is not even a Debate, I like many sega games but snes version for this one is definitive, blame the hardware superiority if you will.
Arcade belong to another layer than 16bit consoles so no comparison is valid.
Hyperstone Hiest has better controls
Turtles in Time has better everything else
Heist has tighter level design and enemy placement makes for more exciting combat specially with the run button slide/dash/kick spam going on
>not constantly shoulder-charge into foot thrashing
it's literally free points/lives anon

Love how they just couldn't keep themselves from littering every track with that orchestra hit

The British name is objectively more correct. The turtles never did any assassinating or spying, but they were plenty heroic.

Why the cope?
You're just another butthurt amerikkkan who can't see the British superiority in front of your eyes.

I was kind of lukewarm on it but now I got the hang of it and yes it's S-tier.

you didnt actually play the game (or at least not beyond the first level), nor do you like arcade beat-em-ups, which is clear from what you consider to be a problem, and also the fact that you're extremely incorrect in your second part. if you deny this, then you must explain how the statements in part 2 dont also apply to TiT. the problem is you cant, because you didnt actually play the game, and you're just a shitposting homosexual, lol. cope, seethe, and get owned.
based actual players.
Wow ,5 buzzwords tacked on to the end of your post. I bet your a real fountain of original thought.
welcome to Ganker, newbie. i accept your concession and the fact that you have no actual argument.
Hyperstone Heist is like a dollarstore knock off Turtles in Time. Truly horrible pacing in that one. Walk forward two inches, fight four foot soldiers, repeat twenty times before the level is over. The game actually has a boss rush that takes place in a reskin of a previous level for maximum padding.
> horrible pacing in that one. Walk forward two inches, fight four foot soldiers
>constant action is bad in a beat em up
lel shitter cope
Doing the same thing over and over when it isn't particularly interesting or difficult is bad.
post your no death hardmode run then
oh you can't even 1cc it lmao
The game is too boring to warrant one.
yeah cause you suck and get wrecked by foot soldiers.
git gud or get out
>Walk forward two inches, fight four foot soldiers, repeat twenty times before the level is over
explain how this is different from TiT, or really any other game of the genre.
The length of each level and the lack of anything interesting happening in them in Hyperstone.
it's interesting when you stop sucking
levels are broken up into parts. longer levels before free heals means higher difficulty. overall game time remains equivalent. speedrun time is only a ~5min difference. your adhd doesnt make the game worse, it just means you suck as a human being. if you arent interested in playing a game, thats a you problem. stages have interactables to launch at enemies, as well as hazards to face. there are just as many enemy variants in both games, though perhaps more foot types in HH. "lack of anything interesting happening" and yet you fail to present any examples of how TiT makes "something interesting happen" in opposition. you have presented no actual argument.
>longer levels before free heals means higher difficulty
It means higher boredom more than anything.
final stage and last 2 bosses don't have any heal items on hard, you should play the game instead of tryhard shitposting about it
>if i dont get a new background and a boss fight every 60 seconds, its too boring and im going to throw a tantrum
lmao you dont even like playing games.
How do I consistently grab enemies on both tit and hh?
hit once to make them flinch, step forward, attack again while they are flinching, this lets you throw them. even easier, run and shoulder bash them, this should make them flinch and also put you close enough that your first attack press will occur when you are close enough and automatically grab them.
hyperstone Heist is a fun game, but it pales in comparison to Turtles in Time
I really like the TMNT PS2 game, I played it last year and had a lot of fun.
Why do they look so pissed at that miniature city?
talked shit about splinter
They are both literally the same game you fricking morons!!!
Snes is clear and has more colors
But really if you like this game you should be playing both
Sega is faster with some games too and I'm pretty sure it has more shooters and exclusives too that are pretty great. So I'd just own both
I think TMNT has some of the weaker beat-em-ups out there. I don't really think any one of them is that great.
you should try playing them better
