Is it really a crash? Sure 8k layoffs sounds like a large number but given how many companies there are and how big a lot of them are I don't really think it's that much. I'll call it a crash when trash peddlers the likes of EA or Ubisoft go bankrupt.

PC is 50% bigger than all consoles combined? I knew it was big, but not that big.

everything except mobile could vanish overnight and it still wouldn't dent the industry.

8k sounds like a lot but at the same time the entire industry is just a series of rotating doors, next month or 2 another series of publishers and devs will hire most of em on and rinse and repeat.

No crash, millions of games exist. Before you decide to be a doomer, I would implore you to remember that many studios and projects exist that can and do make significant amounts of money. Outside of that, there is a cultural impact where those games are talked about for a significant amount of time.

This. This so God damn much. People who play games don't care that the devs spent two weeks dev time putting 2000 micro hairs on Alloy's face. Also the in game photo mode doesn't even let you get that close to see any so it's nothing more than the devs circle jerkin.

None of these possibilities will happen, is the problem.

They'll go and re-hire the DEI investments first, because DEI means more investor money, and the thing struggling companies need most is investor buy-in. Good games come second, and even shit publishers who produce no good games can flounder along with investor buy-in instead of customers for a long, long time.

EA itself for example got over 40% bigger in just 2 years thats fricking insane and honestly turbo moronic that they hired so much people so fast like the frick were they thinking lol. Should have happened way sooner.
The industry being propped up with ESG bux and covid spending to keep worthless people in jobs is exactly why it's facing such a big crash right now.

If it had recessed normally like every other industry, it wouldn't have resulted in a major economic catastrophe. But no, they had to keep their 200 million dollar flops churning and creating crap woke game after crap woke game with no audience except the people who hate games on twitter.
They had to do this because they felt the message was more important than the genre for incels they hate known as "video games".

So they're finally facing the music and they expect us to care.

Frick them. I'm ashamed that my tax money will be used to bail out their industries and almost all of them will get rehired or go on to infest some other industry and make the same mistakes again.

I love that every single schizo theory that Ganker has had regarding game costs turned out to be 100% factual. That marketing is the vast majority of a game's budget, and that almost none of the 300 million dollar "super games" produced the last five years has scraped together any significant profit to justify making another.

More examples of CEOs and businesses failing basic economics means they'll be kicked out of the industry and the ships they're sailing sink.
