>Doesn't feel uncomfortable by being isolated in drab environments seemingly meant for multiple people
This is why games like Portal have such good atmosphere. People with autistic antisocial personality disorders don't understand it though. Sorry.
>Why are nigtubers like this? genuinely? I guess it's entertaining to theorize about shit but some people actually find these maps scary
't feel ,uncomfortable, by being isolated in drab environments seemingly meant for multiple people
Don't move the goalpost Black person
yeah but portal is different. it fosters those feelings of unease but it doesn't confirm them. imagine if portal had a shadowy figure that appears in the rooms for the scientists to watch you that disappears when you look at it. the dark room in gmod is unsettling, but going "theres demons living in the dark room and [9001 pages of autistic lore]" ruins it. its what ruined the backrooms.
Horror gaming is dead because in order to make a good horror work, one must be >a good writer who can get a player's imagination working to induce its own sense of fear >a good eye for filmmaking and visual arts to understand creative ways to do something similar to the above
horror games that bank too hard on shock factor, gore, jump scares, or other meme methods of scoring cheap scares are the cancer. It's fine as a theme, but actual quality horror/terror feelings in viewers and players has to come from experienced hands who know how to pull those strings properly in people.
Few people are good at writing to where they can stoke the fires of fear with words and wit alone.
Few people are good at "true" visual horror to where they can use imagery in a creative way to do the same.
>a good writer who can get a player's imagination working to induce its own sense of fear >a good eye for filmmaking and visual arts to understand creative ways to do something similar to the above
That's just a moviegame tho, as in, if you have both of those things you might as well not bother and get into Film making instead
For a example. Five Nights at Freddy's had jumpscares but it's wasn't the main attraction.
The game had a uncanny robots, dark atmosphere and ambience, it helped that you are locked, there's no escape until you are forced to do your job.
And it had unexplained answers like during it's prime. What the frick was the 5th phone call? Why these robots are killing us? Who is that yellow bear?
It's why it still stands out in comparison to other games in the series.
FNAF is a mystery box game and just proves that you can jot down a basic premise and as long as you are schizo enough with your clues without being definitive your fans will write a better story for you.
Just saying if you were to make a horror game you don't need to be a good writer, you can have a basic premise and mystery box yourself into looking like a good writer as long as you're selective in the details and let the players fill in the blanks. Which is good anyways because it lets people to fill in with the things they are scared about.
this thread is weirding me out only because that looks strikingly similar to the opposite side of my irl elementary school field. It feels like Im looking at a memory from my childhood when I see this picture
>Ganker is gonna pretend now that they never found the dark room scary
you'll never stop being contrarian, will you? Despite having posted how scary it was for years now that zoomers say the same thing you started denying it.
>was afraid of the grand piano, the eel and the big cheep cheep in Mario 64 >kids are afraid of literally, non ironic, non metaphoric, nothingness
I can't tell if that's better or worse.
>dystopian
That's the nicest place in the Half Life universe if it was actually a part of it. >invincible giant fish that 1-hits you and an invincible Piano with teeth
I don't piss my pants at the park.
With context in a better made 'dystopian' world with an actual calamity. Garry'smod grass area is OC and is as creepy as you make it. When I was spawning Renamons and Breen armies I wasn't thinking about skibidi gyatt coming to take my ohio butthole.
Why are millenials such hypocrites? >Backrooms were great horror where you were all alone and don't know what could be in that place or might starve to death but zoomers made it terrible by addiing creatures >Omg lol zoomers are scared of empty maps
They are basically the same premise but backrooms feature starving
There is a major difference between 5 second video clips you swipe through constantly and watching a 30 minute TV show with commercials you can take a piss during.
But they don't think empty spaces are scary, which is why they always add monsters and jumpscares, they like the emptiness as a setup for a jumpscare, not for the atmosphere
Or maybe they really think it's scary to not have constant noise so they add noise to make it more comfortable? The whole reason why liminal is creepy / scary is it triggers the prey instinct.
It's my theory that a lot of the grasping at "it's in the uncanny valley bro which makes it super spooky" are just piss poor attempts at copying skinwalker stories you'd see thrown around on /x/ in greentext threads, but like with SCP, the second it gets out of an imageboard it immediately becomes absolute dogshit analog horror is just a copy of the haunted game and lost tv show creepypastas but done by people who don't understand that text is a far better medium for those kinds of stories
I think it's more a case of a vast majority of people trying to make the next big horror thing being bad writers and the reliance on videos rips out the viewer's ability to actually use their imagination.
its scary cuz there might be g-toilet and michael jackson toilet and scientist toilet in the dark and there is no titan cameraman and titan speakerman and titan tvman to save us
Why are nigtubers like this? genuinely? I guess it's entertaining to theorize about shit but some people actually find these maps scary
The frick is this? Do people really?
I watched the video and it was about a custom horror map, not the default gmod maps.
Psudo-intellectuals.
Zoomers are parentless and virgins, and it really shows.
Nah, this can't be serious. It has to be satire, right? like a dumb theory to keep someone entertained
do you, do you have any cash on you? cash?
Wat sickanimation is this from again?
It's the Brazil episode of Smiling Friends, but Marc M does voice that guy, probably animated him too.
Vinesauce is to blame for propagating this despite being told by everyone how shit it is.
>Doesn't feel uncomfortable by being isolated in drab environments seemingly meant for multiple people
This is why games like Portal have such good atmosphere. People with autistic antisocial personality disorders don't understand it though. Sorry.
Intense, but not scary.
moron.
Might as well as call Metal Gear Solid a horror game too.
Where did I say "scary" anywhere in my post?
>Why are nigtubers like this? genuinely? I guess it's entertaining to theorize about shit but some people actually find these maps scary
't feel ,uncomfortable, by being isolated in drab environments seemingly meant for multiple people
Don't move the goalpost Black person
What goalpost? You morons conflate being uncomfortable or unsettled with omg spooky scary 🙁
They're different feelings.
>samegayging
yuck!!!
Anon it's not my fault you have the verbal IQ of a 9 year old and are a schizophrenic who insists people said things they never did.
Being alone in a sterilized commieblock is creepy/unsettling
Being chased by an axe-wielding maniac is scary.
Does that help clear things up for you?
So the anon never said it was scary, nor did the video he was quoting say it was scary. Basically you said it was scary. It's not.
it does feel weird but not scary

>IS THAT A DARK ROOM IN A SOURCE ENGINE GAME!?!?!?!
>I'M SO SCARED!!!
>SKIBIDI SKIBIDI
>Blue sky
>Green and wide open space
I'm literally going insane....

Yeah and now look how we are now.

Its a memory from my childhood cause I played Garry's Mod as a child lmao
My PTSD from this map made me terrorized during the start of Nier automata while you go down that destroyed building
>Ganker is gonna pretend now that they never found the dark room scary
you'll never stop being contrarian, will you? Despite having posted how scary it was for years now that zoomers say the same thing you started denying it.
>HURR DURR LE CONTRARIAN
>YOU ARE CONTRARIAN CONTRARIAN CONTRARIAN
why are zoomers so predictable...
>YOU'RE CALLING ME A CONTRARIAN?
>HOW DARE YOU CALL ME A CONTRARIAN ?!?
why are millennials so sensitive?
>was afraid of the grand piano, the eel and the big cheep cheep in Mario 64
>kids are afraid of literally, non ironic, non metaphoric, nothingness
I can't tell if that's better or worse.
Mario 64 also had wet-dry world, this fear has always existed
I think being afraid of colorful cartoon monsters is worse than being afraid of half life 2's dystopian ambience. Maybe that's just me.
>dystopian
That's the nicest place in the Half Life universe if it was actually a part of it.

The green field with the lone tree in majora's mask is creepier than big boo! haunted house lol

seems like the arguments between imaginary groups in your head must be pretty elaborate. thanks for sharing this small slice of it.
Backrooms is a zoomer genre. The concept of empty places scares them because of their TikTok ADHD brains need constant noise.
I've seen dozens of posts claiming its a millenial creation
Yeah invented to scare zoomers. The concept is interesting but it's lapped by zoomers. No one actually thinks an empty mall is scary.
it is. it literally came from this site. its just fatass millenials pretending their brains werent also rotted by constant TV and video game use.
There is a major difference between 5 second video clips you swipe through constantly and watching a 30 minute TV show with commercials you can take a piss during.
It was created...as a joke here being that if you clipped out of world irl. It was one of those "that kid who double jumped to school" threads.
How to make Sonic.EXE good and actually scary?
Why are zoomers scared of the stupidest shit
>le empty field omg what if skibidi toilet showed up
Oh my god is that a very slight edit to a jpg that stretches out a person and adds a white oval where their eyes should be I'm losing my mind aieee
millenials cant be scared by anything but in your face screamers since they're brains are fried from sensory overload
> since they're brains are fried
>you cant make spelling mistakes on the internet
>>you cant

because there's a big leap from text and random images to interactive storytelling
most horror games overstay their welcome
I think it's more a case of a vast majority of people trying to make the next big horror thing being bad writers and the reliance on videos rips out the viewer's ability to actually use their imagination.
Meanwhile, I'm waiting for the VR porn genre to be saved.
>Being mad at 4 year old dead memes
its scary cuz there might be g-toilet and michael jackson toilet and scientist toilet in the dark and there is no titan cameraman and titan speakerman and titan tvman to save us
