    define high art

Creative endeavor that has value outside of a purely commercial entertainment-based context.

Impossible because video games are the definition of entertainment

So is music and literature but a lot of it reaches greater heights than that.

Literature and music are art not entertainment lmao. Now genre fiction, popular music. That's entertainment.

Art is something you have to strive for, art is a struggle, art enriches the soul. Entertainment is a mere facade of what art intends to create.

In concept what you say has merit, but current art is just a giant circle jerk

                >Art is something you have to strive for, art is a struggle, art enriches the soul. Entertainment is a mere facade of what art intends to create.
Art is a kid scribbbling down something on a paper and that's an expression of their soul as well. You are either underage or just a tryhard homosexual.

                >uncreatives can never imagine wanting to create something to enrich society, for yourself, or for the soul.

Sad, really. Is it all about money to you?

You can't create shit if you are dead, as in if you have no money to buy food or means to produce your own food you stupid fricking pleb.

                > Art is a kid scribbbling down something on a paper and that's an expression of their soul as well

I agree, but children are some of the most creative minds on the planet. They are not scribbling for anyone but themselves, not for money not for capital not for anyone elses desires.

Non-sequitur. First off, learn to read

                >Creative endeavor that has value outside of a purely commercial entertainment-based context.

This does not rule out commercial viability but even so plenty of artists just made their art on the side and held steady jobs. Charles Ives was an insurance salesman.

Literature and music can both be entertaining. Experiencing entertainment does not disqualify something from being art, likewise neither does something not being entertaining disqualify it from being art. I think you have narrow definitions around what art is and can be.

    Disco Elysium
    Soma
    Papers Please
    This War of Mine
    The Stillness of the Wind
    Outer Wilds
I think these are all decent examples of games that I consider to be art. The art medium that games exist in is agency/interactivity. Read "Games: Agency As Art" by C. Thi Ngyuen, since imo it makes a very good argument for what type of art video games are.

Damn son , u really read that shit? Sounds like typical liberal trashes written by asian who adopted western bullshit SJW fully. Her name is NGUYEN. can't get more typical than that

His name is Nguyen actually. He's a professor specializing in the philosophy of art and aesthetics, but judging by the grammar of your post and colloqualisms I'd assume philosophy is above your reading level. I can refer you several books regarding the art of videogames not grounded in the western tradition if you'd prefer

So have we accepted that video games are art and now the question is whether they can be HIGH art?
