To be fair the demo was too short to say if there's a way to frick up and pinpoint the wrong suspect, but of the 3 investigations I remember (the purse thief, the mask merchant and the dead prostitute) 2 were extremely railroaded in evidence gathering, the merchant didn't have a fail state (just a decision what you do to him afterwards) and the purse thief is just a very shitty scripted chase sequence that even if you fail the game just gives away their hideout anyway 30 minutes later (you can't access their hideout before this even if you find it because the maps are so shit you can immediately tell what's important by the fact it's not a dead end)
