The kings of 6th gen

Action adventure games are the most multifaceted genre where devs can do a million things wrong, but if they don't, you have a cathedral on your hands. Which ones did you like the most?

Anything underappreciated?

This game's hate is largely undeserved. If only it actually stayed as Dinosaur Planet...

Ehh, even if it stayed Dinosaur Planet it still would have been fairly forgettable

SotC, Metroid Prime and RE4 form some sort of weird holy trinity in my head for the 6th gen
all 3 of them feel massively impressive on a technical and artistic level, all doing exciting new things
Maximo isn't anywhere near those 3 but it's worth playing anyway, if you're starved of games

Absolutely not. OP, do NOT waste your time on Maximo. The most boring "action" games ever made. Nothing like Ghosts N Goblins. They're slow, plodding, tedious, and feel like crap to move in.

        Two's better.

I will give you that two does look better. Haven't played it but I watched videos after going back to Maximo this year and thought the sequel looked faster.

The combat is much, MUCH better as Maximo has a complete moveset and the game is overall faster. Shields are unbreakable too, the whole game feels way easier and more forgiving compared to the first game, it tripped me up.

I remember getting this game's demo from Playstation magazine, I thought it was so cool.

I wouldn't quite call it action adventure, but it's probably close enough and the original Monster Hunter remains by far my favorite game of 6th gen. The only game I can think of where I broke the clock and it stayed at 999 hours long long long before I was done playing.

Lucky you. It's depressing to look at the clock in the sequel games and see 4k hours

I’m mad at myself that I never found out about MH when I was younger.
I did go back to the original when the private server launched and absolutely fricking adored it.

Resident evil 4, yes. Windwaker was controversial and made fun of by a lot of people when it came out, and no, Metroid prime was not close to being king of anything. What the frick is this rezoomerism nintenditis? Mgs2/3, GTA 3/vc/sa, shadow of the Colossus, etc... i dont mind having Nintendo games in the conversation, but let's have a honest conversation.

You literally got that backwards. RE4 was controversial for turning RE into an action game. Zelda was just another Zelda besides the graphics. Metroid Prime was a unanimous masterpiece. And it's just a picture

lol no, re4 got critical acclsim across the board and most fans, but some, while not thrilled, still enjoyed it for the most part saying things like “its a good game, but not a good resident evil game”. wind waker got a ton of black lash and prime wasnt big enough to be a king, but I agree it was praised by the few who played it.
