Shit was still going great up until 2009~2010 though. That was about when people started craving newer games but nothing filled the same niche and needs.
then again back at the time mmo was like a big chat room within a game, so it worked wonders the time you played the game and the down times when you put the character to rest and just talked
I think if a mmo tried that approach again it would do well. Imagine Ganker, but integrated into the mmo, so while waiting for a response on your topic you can kill mobs or farm woodcutting, whatever it is mmo's do these days.
Why does Slayer type B use even Zanbato only with 1 hand spite their hand isn't that fricked up and they can use sword with left hand(as we can see from spectre who focuse on power of Demonic arm) while slayer type A should wield even short sword with 2 hands?(like ghost slash, soul strike, upper, thrust, jump attack) spite their left hand is fricked up with Demon called Khazan and shackled?
Khazan makes the arm stronger, even when shackled. Male Slayer classes (except Asura lol) integrate his physical strength into their techniques. On the other hand, Female Slayer has less strength, and her techniques do not rely on it. While she does have enough strength to one-hand a Zanbato, her techniques are generally more based around magic and movement, so having a hand free is usefull.
Also, Male Slayer uses a Zanbato one-handed in many moves anyway, so you really don't have any point to make at all.
But male Slayer has lots of 2 hand motions in low-mid level skills, like Upper slash(On ice/fire wave too), Ghost slash(Asura cresent too), thrust, jump slash, soul strike, Flowing stance (Swift-rise-clash) have 2 handed motion. Most 1 handed motions are added after Adding 40-45 lv skills on slayer(mostly based on frenzy/ lightsword secret sword motion).
DFO has no bikini since neo awakening, and BA has no bikini since 2023 since Korea bans bikini. Is it just nexon being cuck who kneels to feminists?(Nexon has low ESG risk for Korean company)
may god bless Lineage 2 forever and always in my heart. really the only time a world felt like an MMO and running into certain people was common. seeing your friends in the town square of Giran. That one infamous PKer who roamed the land murdering people like a psychopath, and then calling some clan police to go frick his shit up. and sieges, so awesome. also shoutout to Lineage Radio
With a time machine? All of them. Without a time machine? None of them. You really can't say you experienced those games unless you played them back in their heyday.
I've only played Ragnarok Online and Lineage 2. Ragnarok is still fun today (at the end of the day it's a Diablo clone, the genre didn't change much over the last 20 years), Lineage 2 aged like shit.
Ragnarok and Mabinogi (at the time) were genuine exemplars of what the MMO genre /could/ be. Excellent community engagement, tons of discoveries made throughout constant play, every inch forward could make a huge difference, and the lack of theme park nonsense meant you could just drop in and make your own adventure. The only one of these I know for certain was absolutely not worth it was Fiesta, which was shit then, and is shit now.
If I could back to those times, I will not waste my time spending hours on AAA goyslops like CoD again, instead I will spend my entire youth playing just mmorpg because I know it's not coming back.
You know after many years trying to fill that hole that Lineage 2 left in me makes me realize that the long nights farming mats for the shitty A grade set weren't so bad after all.
I played low rate private server for years but it had premium shop. Competition was intense pk and some kind of hostility we even got bans sometimes kek. It was arab server made by egyptian. Boss battles take long time kind of stupid fighting anthars or valkas. Played many releases from c4 and up
You can’t just enjoy what’s available. I wish I could make games would make crazy stuff. Only eroge and doujin makers try some stuff that aren’t genric trash but now most of them died too
All I want is a MMO with graphics like these but some actual changes in gameplay from the norm. Shit has been stagnating for 20 years now. And no I don't mean muh action combat, anyone who wants that completely misses the point of a MMO. I mean building a raft in-game and going on the sea with your friends fighting random sea monsters, finding a cave and being able to turn it into your secret base by placing some walls and furniture. Bard support buffing class? Has to play OSU-style rhythm game to properly play the songs. PvP coliseum where players can both participate AND place bets on the other players. How about a class that gains experience from crafting and gathering mats, so they can go level 1 to 100 without ever killing a single monster? PKers get bounties placed on them the more they kill, which gets awarded to the killer. (The PKer also loses items/levels when it happens so they won't just get a friend to kill them and split the reward.)
Not all of these are going to be good ideas, not all of these are going to work, but my god just fricking try something, and we can build on that, instead of just copy pasting the same fricking wow formula over and over again. Archeage had some interesting ideas with their housing, crafting and cargo delivery but they failed to capitalize on it, and no other game tried to add them. Lineage 2 had a cool feature with a cursed sword randomly spawning in the world and whoever picks it up becomes a forced PKer and other players can see you on the map and hunt you down, again no other game tried to copy this. Fricking why.
Every single one of those has been tried and people didn’t like it enough or (in the case of the betting thing) israelite Black folk found out how to rig the system and break the economy. There are a dozen survival sandbox mmos where you can build and explore with your friends, and your amazing original idea to level without combat is literally how the Ffxiv crafting classes work.
AAA is stagnating but the game industry is more vibrant than ever, you are just bitter and jaded. Maybe blind too I mean seriously I hear about that ffxiv shit all the time.
>Every single one of those has been tried
Where's the bard class playing rhythm game in MMOs? >and your amazing original idea to level without combat is literally how the Ffxiv crafting classes work.
It's also in Archeage anon, I wasn't claiming any of my ideas are 100% OC donut steel original, just something different from the norm, and of course adding them together not 1 single element in each MMO. >There are a dozen survival sandbox mmos where you can build and explore with your friends
The problem in those games is exactly that they're survival sandbox MMOs and you can lose all your shit in a single day. I meant more of how in Lineage 2 you can conquer certain cities, areas, castle halls and keep them for a time without having to defend 24/7, or how in Archeage you can build houses in certain places. I just wanted a bit more spontaneity to it, because the system is a bit too restrictive in the ones I mentioned. > the game industry is more vibrant than ever
Not the MMO one. DEFINITELY not the MMO one, if you really think that then I don't know what else to tell you.
>Where's the bard class playing rhythm game in MMOs
I can’t remember what it was called but I definitely played one because I remember struggling a little and finding out everyone just used addon macros to make it a one button cast. Every single time devs do anything like this, players find a way around it and trivialize content balanced around it so the devs give up and you can’t blame them. Active stuff like osu! doesn’t work either because of lag. >The problem in those games is exactly that they're survival sandbox MMOs and you can lose all your shit in a single day
If you actually played L2 you’d understand why nobody else does that shit anymore. It filtered that content to the elite of the elite nolifers, remember literally ONE DUDE - the leader of the biggest guild on the server - could fly a dragon at a time? Sounds cool on paper, fricking terrible in reality. Demoralizing as hell.
If you’d step back and look at your posts, you would understand that you’re asking for things that already exist but mixed in an exactly perfect way for you, and also asking for the entire player base to act in the way that you want them to act so you can have fun. Ways that players do not act anymore, if they ever did. The quick and easy transmission and accessibility of information has made exploration, discovery, PVP, and basically every single mechanic that made MMOs interesting to you a cutthroat to the bottom because everybody wants to be the best. That’s not a problem with the industry, that’s a natural evolution of the system
Do you understand how unworkable that all is?
>If you actually played L2 you’d understand why nobody else does that shit anymore. No, it really wasn't. Remember how only and ONLY 32 players out of THOUSANDS on the server at any given time had the Hero title with a special glow and special weapon, and special global chat to go with it? It was the coolest shit. Fighting in the Olympiad in the evening was the highlight of my day. >If you’d step back and look at your posts, you would understand that you’re asking for things that already exist but mixed in an exactly perfect way for you
No. What I'm asking for is SOMETHING DIFFERENT from the norm. That's all. Those were just random ideas based on my own MMO experiences I quickshot without any thought into it. All I want is other developers to take them and play around with the concepts to maybe get something different. Just like how both Allods and Archeage have completely different interpretations of naval combat gameplay. Do you want me to actually spend days or weeks coming up with balanced gameplay mechanics for MMOs? Then hire me for your MMO project else I'm just wasting time.
Sounds like you just hate fun, asynchronous interactions and want everything to be normalized with some "everyone's a winner" bogus philosophy. The reason my ideas seem unworkable to you is because you're stuck in your mindset that every player must get the same experience regardless of how much time or effort they put in the game.
Also, Lineage 2 managed to make horse racing and other gambling events work just fine without anyone "ruining the economy".
You say you want a game like that but being forced to do all of that constantly just to be able to do anything would become a huge chore real fast once the novelty wears off.
No one wants to play ddr for 4 minutes just to use a skill once
Anyone else remember meeting a lot of girls on msn via ragnarok online? Any Nameless RO gays here? Hannah, if you still remember me, I should have tried to ask you out back then...

I still wish someone made an MMO that functioned similarly to The Last Remnant. You could easily do it with a decent playercount. >Individual players link up together to make "Units" (Parties) and fight in initiative-based battles with other Units >Positioning, total Unit count, and type of Unit all change the paradigm for the fight, with flanking/pincer attacks reducing the response ability of defenders and massive Units are still able to fully respond to every single engagement they get dragged into >Literally dozens of soldiers can be fielded in regular fights, battles against common things like bugs/goblins/etc. are specifically mass-pulled to maximize EXP gain without the background Difficulty Meter increasing
It could be done and it could be sufficient. You'd have to figure out things like balance autism, but without needing to be in a constant state of server tick, you can come up with some creative answers to a lack of individual class variety and add boss mechanics that are mechanically rich without praying to god people can handle them in real-time.
what the frick are any of those aside from Maple Story
This dude missed out on the golden era of MMOs. Damn.
My family wasnt poor so I had an active sub on wow and rs at all times
Crazy how the golden age of MMOs was just four years long from 2000 to 2004.
Shit was still going great up until 2009~2010 though. That was about when people started craving newer games but nothing filled the same niche and needs.

How underage are you

What's a good current game if I want those Mapple Story feels?
Nothing emulates it properly, but DFO and Mabinogi made me feel the same things.
Isn't current DFO massively P2W or something like that?
Why does Slayer type B use even Zanbato only with 1 hand spite their hand isn't that fricked up and they can use sword with left hand(as we can see from spectre who focuse on power of Demonic arm) while slayer type A should wield even short sword with 2 hands?(like ghost slash, soul strike, upper, thrust, jump attack) spite their left hand is fricked up with Demon called Khazan and shackled?

How does Archer have bikinis then? She just got added.
Not really, its way way less p2w than it used to be. Most of the paid stuff is given out in events which are practically always running.
Bikinis aren’t as sexy as a girl in (what is regarded as) normal summer clothes like a tight top + short shorts though

All of those were glorified chatrooms. And god damnit I loved them. But if it were just the gameplay, they would be 7/10s at best.
