As a zoomer, this was the first generation I remembered coming out (although we did play PS1 & 2 and OG Xbox well into the early 2010s money being what it was), and while I do look back on the Wii with nostalgia (more so the DS and PSP tbh) this was also the point where games started to get very homogenous with the same controls scheme, the same design choices and the same lousy washed out colour scheme. Even more so than on sixth gen you got the same games across all platforms and increasingly on pc and the SOVL wasn’t really there compared to the 90s and early 2000s games I’m too young to remember coming out. Most innovation seemed to be about gimmicks with motion controls on the Wii (stolen shamelessly by that PS MOVE gimmick) touchscreens on the DS and kinetic on the 360.
And while they were all very new and exciting at the time much like 3D tv and hd dvd none of them lasted in the public consciousness after the appeal had wore off and come the eighth gen most of this had been forgotten by the grownups at Sony and Microsoft. Nintendo are the only ones who stubbornly remained idiosyncratic and then they lost their casual customers to phone games and gachaslop
In short while I still like and enjoy 7th gen games it was undeniably the beginning of the end with all of the problems that we see in modern gaming stating to crop up in a big way
Now you’ve read my dumb blogpost have an irrelevant lust-provoking image
All good consoles but have major sad moments that undermine them. >PS3 had a rough start and the later part of the generation affirmed to SCE the way forward is monolithic mega games that cost hundreds of millions >360's great start sold out by a change in management pursuing a dead end gimmick that undermines them to this day >Wii had a number of great exclusive third party titles nobody bought so all the companies making them downsized into mobile or went out of business while mediocre nintendo slop sold gangbusters and noa got high on their anti-japan sentiment so much that we're still reaping the consequences today

They're both moronic console shooters. At least Red Steel has color and a good soundtrack.

Nobody bought it! Wii owners weren't interested. They wanted wii sports and zumba fitness, not a clever physics driven game with fun bosses and lots of creativity from level to level.

Nobody bought Folklore either.

Very true, Japan Studio still had many games to follow it. Perhaps instead of saying there was "no games" people should have instead encouraged others to check out folklore.

10 million people had it at the end of the first year, and they should have been encouraged instead they had rabid Nintendo fans drowning out everyone saying there was nothing, pay no attention to the great Japan Studio game. Also YLOD wasn't really a problem until years later. You don't seem very capable of honest and reasonable discussion, are you perhaps one of those Nintendo fanboys I'm talking about? You talk just like a certain one and use the same posting style with the same recycled webms.

The issue was caused by power cycling. There was nothing to play in the first few years. This isn't even a joke, it's actually what happened.

thermal cycling* The underfill on the RSX was the problem. It only occurred after years of use and cycling. You don't seem to know this very well but try to speak with conviction. Something tells me you're not very confident in your answers given you ignored the second half of the post and needed to reaffirm your incorrect assumption with a Whedonism.
One of the best games ever made
This is just a bad game, and I think its success was from Nintendo fans wanting to shed the kiddy image. Nice style at least, horrible gameplay.

More attempted history revisionism that just won't work on people who were actually there.

Just like there are launch 360's still running, always a chance it can happen. Anyway since you seem unaware of the issue yet have made your own misinformed conclusions, I suggest watching these to understand the situation more
I suspect only someone who cares about video games would want to understand the situation more, I don't think that is you.

The PS3 and 360 still all had a defective GPU until late 2008. No amount of attempted historic revisionism to make the PS3 look good (no small task) will change that.

Many are still running fine to this day. First you fail to answer:

showing a failure of paying attention to well discussed issues, causing confusion and making yourself look a fool, all while throwing accusations and claims left and right. You can't even get basic facts right.
You're seriously underqualified, you should reconsider approaching this subject in the future until you take some time to understand it better than typing before:2008 into youtube. A failed confidence man is worse than a man with no confidence. Now tell me about your mother.

It's related to powering it off and on. Nobody had a reason to do either for the first few years of the PS3.

There is nothing more humiliating than being someone who spent 600 dollars on a defective no games machine. Except maybe someone who still defends that purchase in 2024.
