Its a pretty good nioh 1.5 action game with lots of final fantasy flavour. The whole story and characters are just a bonus really. you can ignore them completely or just enjoy the ride.

Jack and the other characters being great is just even more to love about the game. Unfortunately I know a pattern when I see one and most of these threads popping up are certainly due to the usual schizo suspects trying to create breeding grounds to peddle dogshit narratives and false information. A shame, they would be better served actually playing videogames, like Stranger of Paradise.
what's stopping you from getting it? The combat is good. Against normal enemies, you use your action abilities to continuously stun them, and the game is managing MP and crowd controlling enemies from ganging up on you. For bosses, its using Soul Shield and managing your break gauge, though I will say the game is more faster paced in that you don't get a big chance to hit them a lot, you have to play with constant aggression. Also, if you're going to play this game, get lunatic or some form of haste asap, this game is meant to be played faster than what it normally offers you.

if you are having trouble with astos, remember that only hp damage will decloak his dark shroud. Can't say I know what exactly you are having trouble with him or his second phase, but if you are having trouble with his hammer, delay dodge forward, stay still, or walk forward.
yea you'll unlock 600 affinity bonuses and 800 later, so use lunatic, flee (increases movement speed), reinforce (cuts timing for things that need to charge), teleport (increases dodge speed by turning it into a teleport, can now spam it) or whatever else you feel like. The game really gets more enjoyable when you can go super saiyan. Also, don't ignore using lightbringer if you have trouble managing your break gauge, sure you lose 2 mp bars, but it fills up fast enough when fighting bosses.

Astos is just about being consistent and not get too greedy in the first phase. If you destroy his dark aura, he is more.prone to stagger and damage until he re apply the darkness cloak.
2nd phase is actually easier than the first. You just have to be careful of Ultima
The closest thing would be the greatsword, it's another generally well rounded weapon but heavier hitting with some charge attacks and distinct defensive capabilities. Every weapon is extremely good and fun though and you'll likely be trying them all out as you go through the different jobs.
