I tried BW three times, every time I ended up dropping it after the ice Gym when the game suddenly goes into c**tscene overdrive. That shit was unbearable. B2W2 was absolutely fantastic though.

    >Never started X

Did I get too old for Pokémon? I legit know nothing past Gen 5. I mainly grew up in Gen 4.

xy too easy. many ugly and not cool pokemon.

definitely. all the games are the same and get progressively worse or stale considering you probably notice it. i mean pokemon is a kids franchise.

        >xy too easy.
It's bizarre to me that people make this complaint specifically about XY as if every Pokemon game isn't braindead piss easy garbage.

          Anonymous

yeah all pokemon games are easy as they are for kids but xy is too easy, as in easier than the rest and thus way too easy. an exceptionally easier game in an already easy franchise

Yeah it's pretty much like NSMB2 but for Pokemon

            >as in easier than the rest
how do you get easier than clicking A three times to beat every gym? Because that's what I did in gen 5.

              Anonymous

tapping "mega evolve" then clicking A three times with even less grinding between the current gym and the next.

No, it's DEFINITELY Gen 5 that's the last good ones. XY have some commendable traits but the singleplayer shouldn't have been neutered.

      Anonymous

      >but the singleplayer shouldn't have been neutered
This. They shouldn't have limited the regional dex to only new Pokemon, removed berry farming, removed ribbons, removed the useful bottom screen, have only 18 routes, the fewest of any game, and have a barebones post-game with a battle facility that doesn't even use triple and rotation battles.

      Wait a second.....

        What generation are you describing?

  7. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

X/Y were shit. SM and USUM were the last good Pokemon games.

  8. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

X and Y was the generation that had the best , and worst of both things.
The best new feature that made pokemon stronger, albeit selective.
Best of the outlook for the future of the series, as it has finally gone into the 3d era.
The best build up for their anime

However, the WORST Remakes BY FAR.
    The worst anime season ending
the worst wienerblock on Zygarde never having it's own version
and, the absolute shitfest that the fairy type added, retconned, and weakened for other types.

I would argue if gen 6 was removed of it's entirety from pokemon, no one would miss the things that this generation brought, as gen 7 and 8 pretty much ignored the consequences of anything that happened in gen 6.

Don't forget that it managed to take gen 5's writing issues and amplify them while carrying over none of its strengths. You didn't like having two moronic and too-supportive friends follow you around the region? Have even more! You didn't like the evil team having a skin-deep noble goal? Okay then, we'll just have them be flat-out moronic!

        Anonymous

        >Have even more!
and yet they interrupt you less than Gen 5's. Weird huh?

          Anonymous

They interrupt you just as much proportionately, the pacing just shits its pants in the latter half of the story.

            Anonymous

            >They interrupt you just as much proportionately
no, they don't. Have you actually replayed BW and XY recently?

There is no Pokemon generation where you could use just one Pokemon without grinding.

that's literally the most efficient way to play every game you moron

              Anonymous

I've replayed Black somewhat recently and found the "constant interruptions" are even less egregious than I remember them being. I went into gen 5 prepared to hate it because what I was hoping for at the time was akin to super-Sinnoh. Sure it was pretty awful toward the start, but I can forgive that.

funny how every hated pokemon game is suddenly well liked 2-3 gens later.
also funny how fans want remakes of their beloved gen and when they get one they hate it.
also funny how fans always want new features and changes and then hate what they get, then when it's removed again next gen they cry about removal.

      Anonymous

You know in light of that I'm shocked that triple battles managed to stick around for so long. Megas had a couple generations and I owe that to gen 7 sort of absorbing gen 6's fetal twin in the womb or whatever the right fricked up metaphor is, but triple battles feel distinctly gimmicky compared to doubles and they managed to make it longer.

Pokemon was never good. The idea of it and multiplayer are the only things it has going for it. As overall games most of them are mediocre at best

Frick off with this meme already. There's nothing wrong with Pokemon games besides being easy, and there's plenty of difficult content in the battle facilities anyway.

        >shit graphics
        >shit stories
so that leaves the gameplay which is braindead garbage in single player, music which is usually ok, side content including post game battle facilities which is only decent in like 3 games, and catching. Tell me when it gets good as a single player experience

          Anonymous

Collecting Pokemon is fun. Story and graphics are both serviceable and never really reach bad, in all the games fans find characters they really like. The Battle Tower and its spin-offs have been fine in every game except gen 2 and SwSh, SwSh mainly because the AI doesn't use dynamax well. BDSP actually has one of the harder Battle Towers. The single player of pokemon is good.

            Anonymous

            >catching pokemon is fun
I disagree. Only Legendaries are even remotely fun but that stops after like 2 when you get fail-safe strategies down

            >Story and graphics are both serviceable and never really reach bad
            get some standards

            >fans find characters
again get some standards. 99% of the characters are cardboard cutouts with no real depth or even personalities beyond some generic traits

            >The Battle Tower and its spin-offs
similar shitty AI but with better teams and built around streaks and gimmicks so rng can screw you over. Still it is indeed better than the rest of the game

            >The single player of pokemon is good
it's not. It was sort of passable on handhelds, but certainly not now. Play other games

              Anonymous

I play plenty of other games and still come back to replay Pokemon games. The games are fine. You just keep saying get some standards instead of actually explaining what these other games do better, you just come off as a pseudointellectual.

                Anonymous

the graphics are objectively not good in any gen except maybe 2. The stories are even worse. How you can even say shit like gs, rse, or swsh have passable stories is laughable. Just as laughable are the 1 note characters. I don't consider something like DQ, TWEWY, Bravely Default, or many others to be the height of story telling or characters (well twewy does have pretty good characters) but they run circles around any pokemon game

So yes, get some fricking standards

  12. 2 years ago

Couldn't get through B/W 2 cause of all the shit halting gameplay in the beginning. Is the story even good? Give me my starter and let me frick off and explore.

The story is slightly above par, which is stellar given the context. Showing a group like Team Plasma actually having a "true believer" among them is ridiculously rare even among more "adult" literature.

BW2 has a lot of cool pokemon you can get early like riolu, mareep, azurill (make sure it has huge power), magnemite, and growlithe. Just keep playing, it gets way better even though the cutscenes can be annoying.

Autistic butterfly trading was kinda fun. And kind strangers were wonder trading pokerus carriers. I also went through the pain of breeding a protean froakie to trade for a xerneas. I was hoping there'd be away to get back to the guy and trade it back to him since I only wanted the dex entry, but sadly that turned out to be impossible. Ah well. The frog was the real deal so I don't feel too bad about it.

I completly agree, the game is rough on edges and needed a better end game but it felt like a true pokémon game. I believe they changed the director/creator after this gen, and it shows.

XY haters. When is the last time you actually replayed the game? The main campaigns for BW and XY are shockingly similar. It really feels disingenuous to hate one, but not the other.

One has singles & doubles battle tower, Institute, while the other has singles, doubles, triples, and rotation battle tower and Institute. Also, if cart based pvp qol is so easy to implement, then why does Gen 5 not have it?

I liked XY more than SuMO because the trainer customization and region were better. I had the most fun with Swsh out of the 3 because it had the best online features.
