Most of the time when a studio eats shit and shutters its doors it was a shit studio to begin with and nobody notices because nobody cares.
When a company that actually put out real titles eats shit, that gets attention because people know who they are. Blizzard's failures aren't unusual, they aren't even that egregious. Blizzard, if you haven't noticed, doesn't actually release a lot of games, and most of them historically have been big hits at the time that the company coasted off for years. Starcraft, Warcraft, WoW, Diablos I and II, then you get this slow churn of them trying to put out new stuff and it all sucks massive wiener. The Warcraft movie sells like a lead balloon, Overwatch has more porn than actual players, Diablo III was awful.
It's only because they fell so far that the fall was even noticeable, if these guys hadn't made Starcraft and Diablo II I would not know or care who they are.
There is actually nothing wrong with Starcraft LOTV, and actually has casual content, the only problem is that people find true RTS stressful and would rather control 1 hero in MOBAs and blame party members.
Warcraft (MMO side) occupies a niche MMO space, with the only competitor being FF14. WoW has a better immersive leveling experience (provided by classic WoW), and has better dungeon end-game, pvp, and arguably the gearing system (subject to change in future patches maybe), than FF14's so WoW can always find players to subscribe to it.
HOTS is arguably an "okay" game, but it's an extremely casual party game at its core and could never hope to compete with its more in-depth counterparts. It had amazing art assets however.
But all the other franchises including Warcraft RTS has had its pussy turned out for casuals or for monetization, especially Diablo (the saddest one).
Anyways, I think Metzen coming back is a good sign.

Noone cares about story, the peaks of starcraft always coincided with interest in its multiplayer or 1v1 gameplay.
Also the gameplay of the campaigns steadily went up with each expansion, which matters most.
Nta but mechanically LotV is one of the most solid RTS on the market, and even if you can't stand playing against other people there's always pic related which is a ton of fun. It's the only Blizz game I still play and thanks to them declaring the game dead content-wise, it means they'll never put out a patch that ruins it.

XIV has declined pretty heavily, it didn't continue it's peak of WoW streamer exodus to it.
The current 'lull' in player numbers is higher than Stormblood at its peak. Unless you mean in quality, then yeah, I agree - we got a lot of content in Endwalker but it was monkey paw content where there was some crippling issue with the implementation that made it unfun to do.

The previous two expansions had shit to do in both bozja and eureka and a decently paced relic that kept you logging in to do things. The current expansion has no exploration zone, and the relic you have the currency for if you play in any capacity, before the step even releases.
The exploration zones get real fricking boring after a couple of weeks, IMO, especially Bozja.I just play it how I did the previous expansions and Wrath way back when. Login, do some dungeons and maybe a bit of raiding, chat, and I'm done.
I'd rather a couple weeks of gameplay than literally nothing. Which is what endwalker is.

Its a game that people played while content droughts were happening in WoW. WoW doesn't pull the numbers like it used to and so Hearthstone gets affected too.

Starcraft 2 was their last decent product imo. It's not as good as vanilla/tbc wow, diablo 2 etc, but it's still far above average in its genre.
Overwatch was a great product. It somehow managed to captivate both casuals and hardcore players. You had heroes like Reinhardt, Winston, Torbjörn, Symmetra, etc. for the casuals while also having heroes like McCree, Genji, Hanzo, Junkrat, Pharah, Lucio, etc. for the hardcore players. And the beauty of OW was that casuals and hardcore players could actually play together, because individual performance in the game could be very impactful, to the point that a really good player could easily make up for a really shit player.
Now having said that, Blizzard pretty much ruined the game after they refused to nerf meta strats in S2 and S3, and then just let balancing spiral out of control.

This is one of the large struggles with FPS...many of the forms are "finished". Quake, for example, has reached its peak.
CS was finished with 1.6, although graphics-people have moved on.

The huge difference between Blizzard and Riot is that Blizzard took inspiration from certain games/genres, then improved on them slightly, provided good graphics and a crazy amount of polish. (Speaking about old Blizzard here, of course).
Riot on the other hand literally just copies and then makes a product that feels more Chinese, in the sense that it feels cheap, tacky and unpolished.

I knew it was dead when the designers started saying that meta polarization didn't matter. Baiscally they stopped caring that decks didn't compete on somewhat even grounds and it's made it so that the game is more about what you queue into than how you play the game. No one signed up to play the queue slot machine.
Their problems are self-inflicted and now they're getting laid off for it. Shocker.
None of that is why HS ended up the way it is.
When HS was popular, twitch was still an irrelevant site, the main thing with HS was that it became mainstream amongst phone users as their first card game, the problem was that the HS team never scaled properly to keep retention with new features. The game stayed as barebones as possible until 6 years after launch when most of the casual base had moved on.
The game right now is great but a large chunk of the playerbase was Chinese, without a China deal the game went into a deathspiral.

Then came the half-assed ToTGC raid. And then finally came the implementation of WoW's cash shop with THAT moronic HORSE.
The second turning point was probably Diablo 3's failure of a launch in 2012 with the completely out of touch RMAH and always-online.
Then the third and final nail in the coffin where the company had fully transitioned into TOTAL ASSFRICKERY would be Diablo Immortal in 2022. They straight up went full mask off and released a pay2win mobile game, while also antagonizing their fanbase with "DON'T YOU GUYS HAVE PHONES?"
Another big turning point was when Blizzard completely failed to capitalize Dota when Icefrog approached them for it. Their legal shitshow with Valve back then effectively swore them off ever supporting their custom game/mapping scenes ever again

I played Control Shaman and iirc in Uldum is where it got it's final cards with Earthquake, etc. Such a fun deck and I really couldn't go back to HS after the rotation, nor would it be good in Wild anymore.
